What If Ganondorf Got His WISH In Zelda The Wind Waker - Zelda Theory

Imagine a Zelda game where Ganon is king and you have to hop between the mountaintop cities and the desolate land be-- oh... Skyward Sword has... Demise and... floating cities... And... Monster-infested surface...

Only a couple of problems 1. Ganondorf never got the full triforce when Link first entered the sacred realm he only got the triforce of power 2. Ganondorf probably meant to just restore Hyrule to it's former glory since in the Wind Waker it's also revealed that all Ganondorf really wanted at first was to give his people a better life but thanks to Demise's cursethat will was corrupted into a lust for power and since he doesn't lose his mind in this scenario and he's shown to be more merciful in the Wind Waker ( shown when he says he won't kill Link only breaking that promise because his sanity snapped) he would probably try to paint himself as the hero. 3. The old Link to the Past story was retconned now it's Link loses the final battle against Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time and he got the full triforce but was sealed away before he could do any major damage.

Imagine if the Triforce just gave him legal ownership over Hyrule, like that would be more useless than the water removal

Knowing his history he would have probably still lost later down the line. I mean he has won twice now and both times ended in him sealed away only to be defeated later. Hell you could also count Wind waker as him winning as he beat Hyrule only for the goddess to come down and flood Hyrule and then seal him beneath the great sea.

Interesting thing about this Ganondorf is that this is the Ganondorf who actually won in OoT, only to be defeated 7 years later. He remembers what his original wish & actions did to Hyrule, a land whose greenery and sweet, life-filled winds he "coveted". This is a Ganondorf who's markedly older, wiser, more patient, yet still prone to flipping-out in rage. I think his desire for the Hyrule he wished to be given to him was for the lush, life-filled Hyrule, not the devastated wasteland it was turning into in OoT. He wished to be the new King, and with the full power of the Triforce backing the wish (rather than the third he obtained previously), the wish & Triforce would've been stable enough to grant him exactly that. Plus, his wish in ALttP per the Eastern Palace maiden was to change the Golden Land into a world he could build his forces within to eventually conquer Hyrule - not to change Hyrule itself. Though he'd still likely kill Link right away just in case, the Master Sword destroyed (or, if unable to do so, have it locked away where none could grab it), and...I'm iffy as to what he'd do with Zelda... The people above on the islands have no idea who Ganondorf even is, so he'd easily be able to pass himself off at first as their "long lost King". My thoughts are that in the short term, Ganondorf would initially attempt to be a "peaceful dictator" - one who wants to keep alive the lands he coveted so strongly for that he sought the legendary Triforce using whatever means necessary. However, Ganondorf is not one who understands diplomacy, nor the concept that other people have any sorts of rights. This is something he never bothered to learn as leader of the Gerudo, where his word was law. Ganondorf would refuse to have his rulership challenged or his action/decisions questioned, ever. This is, after all, a man bearing the hatred of the ancient demon king; a man who was raised from birth to be a "chosen one" for the Gerudo, a man who ruled over his warrior people without question. Eventually he would have had enough of others trying to tell him that Hyrule isn't just his alone, and would do something foolish in a blind rage during one of these moments (like, say, slaughtering the head of the Gorons for daring to make any claims to Death Mountain), which would reinstate the pre-OoT Civil War all over again...and the Hyrule he so desired would be destroyed anyway. It just wouldn't happen right away. Now the interesting thought is that Link could be "reborn" as part of a new bloodline, as that's what happened in WW. Eventually the Hero would return. Zelda, however, is a special case. Option #1. Ganondorf kills her off. Doing so ends the line of the Goddess Hylia, and I'm not sure if her power could be inherited by one not of royal bloodline. So, unless Zelda/Tetra has a cousin out there, that might be it, she'd never return in some form, and that's that. Option #2. Ganondorf keeps her prisoner, possibly even using her power to aid in his tyrannical rule over Hyrule. Great short-term benefits, but with a marked long-term risk should Link get himself reborn and oppose him again. Ganondorf has shown a marked restraint to killing Zelda. First game? Kept her captive, even though he'd likely have been able to re-fuse the Triforce of Wisdom together again himself. ALttP? Kept her and the Sage-decedents in Crystal prisons. OoT? Imprisoned her, rather than extracting her Triforce essence and then killing her right away. TP? Allowed Zant to keep her prisoner in a tower, then later possessed her body rather than killing her. Hell, Ganondorf was likely the one who *brought Zelda back to life* after she expended herself & faded away to save Midna. Obviously I'm betting that he'd keep Zelda prisoner. Then, as Hyrule falls to ruin around him, Link gets reborn, undergoes multiple quests around Hyrule saving the various peoples, somehow grabs the Master Sword, challenges & defeats Ganondorf finally...and confuses the heck out of Zelda when the boy she watched get killed a decade earlier shows-up again to save her. ...Why do I keep writing essays in these Zelda videos...?

This is nice but it doesn’t take Ganondorf into account since he’s more of an anti-villain in WW than in Ocarina

Maybe i just have a soft spot for Ganondorf, but i don't think Hyrule would have become the desolate wasteland people think it would be. Ganondorf wants to rule Hyrule not destroy it. He does want to destroy the royal family though. In OoT, hyrule is a wasteland because he had to gain control of hyrule while they were powerful through conquest. It was a war of 2 kings over territory. OoT ganondorf is young, arrogant and thinks he has nothing to lose and everything to gain, which he did for some time. But then he loses it all and gets sealed away. WW ganondorf is older, wiser, and had time to think about his loss. And he lost a lot. All of Hyrule, his adoptive moms Twin rova, and his entire race since he's the only gerudo in WW. His army is even shown to not be entirely evil since Moe the moblin falls in love with one of the girls. Without the baggage of his old reputation he could have tried to unite the people that remained on the mountain tops by draining the seas and restoring hyrule or even brought back the Gerudo before the king of lions swooped in

From the 8th to 9th minute in which you mention where Ganondorf could have raised his army, I have a theory about where Ganondorf got his army in Wind Waker kupo When Tetra takes Link to the Forsaken Fortress, she mentions it used to be the lair of a bunch of pirates that her crew used to compete with And the bokoblins all around the great sea are very pirate-like, in the 2 sequels, miniblins are also refered to as pirates And where does the portal in Ganon's tower lead? Right to the forsaken fortress So I theorize that Ganondorf didnt just slipped out in the world above the sea on his own, instead he probably got summoned, and likely by the pirates Tetra mentions Beside, as thiefs, it is likely some of the goddess chosen ones from the gerudo tribes decided to undertake piracy as a way of life once the great flood happened And surely a merciless gerudo pirate captain would likely worship Ganon So I believe very likely most of Ganondorf's army in the Wind Waker were made from the crews of pirate ships Tetra mentions she used to compete with kupo

Wow, I don't know stuff about zelda. I didn't know what happened in Ocarina of Time OR The Wind Waker. Now I do, so I can be prepared.

But in Ocarina he doesn't get the full triforce. His heart wasn't balanced so he only got the triforce of power. He still needed the other pieces to really do what he wanted to Hyrule.

Those two would have killed Link without a thought, but the Wind Waker Ganondorf is not as evil as the other ones. I believe it could have been a better ending that one assumes. Altough I can't say how much of Demise is left within the Wind Waker Ganondorf, so it may very well be that Demise would take over after the succesfull wish. But if not, I think Ganondorf might become a good leader in this game. Would love to see Ganondorf become a good guy after he got what he wants. I still hope that he will team up with Link in BotW 2, but that is doubtfull. Would be a good plot twist tough.

I always felt that Ganondorf in Wind Waker felt well... not really evil? Like he is full of regret, maybe aware that he only acts like that because he is under a curse? Dunno... maybe this wish could have broken the curse in it self, if he was actually aware of it...

Hi fellow Dutch person on the internet! Just wanted to wish you good luck in growing, I think your videos are awesome! I played this game when I was a whopping 3 years old, it’s so nostalgic to me!! Soemtimes I wished they would’ve expanded much more on this giant world of wind waker, imagining phantom hourglass map and spirit tracks added, and even more!! I’d explore every bit of it endlessly!! Like keeping this game as a center and branding out more and more. I would’ve loved to see that, like it’s it’s own universe.

"GIVE HYRULE TO ME!" He's wishing for the divine mandate. being appointed King by the highest authority possible. It's a bit of an odd concept to us, but definitely entirely possible for a fantasy game. Imagine Shigeru Myamoto said Ganondorf is canonically the rightful ruler over Hyrule and anyone standing against him his either criminally uprising or usurping (thinking about the "royal" family then).

What if Link was raised by Ganondorf?

Maybe he'd have control over the land of Hyrule itself, and using that power could bring the mountains down to Hyrule, and then send his "army" to destroy them. But of course Link would kill all of his army and they would be safe from them. Ganondorf would probably be hidden away underground for a while trying to figure out what to do, and Hyrule would come back over that time. And then Hyrule would be flooded again, and people would flee to the mountains. But some people would still be down in Hyrule, as Ganondorf would still be underground, and not really a threat. But then Ganondorf would have figured out his plan and come back. He first would have taken over Hyrule, but once he learned that it had been flooded again he would try to take over the upper area. (Hyrule would have already been taken over) Of course Outset and all the islands in Hyrule would still be there, and people would have been living on them. And then Link appears. Actually he's now like 80, but he still attempts to get rid of Ganondorf. But since he's 80 he can't really do much as a hero, so the King of Hyrule uses magic to make him young again. And now Link is like 15 and he kills Ganondorf. Okay sorry for that long thing. TL;DR Ganon brings the islands down to Hyrule after unflooding it, he goes into an underground bunker, Hyruke floods again, some people move to the islands while some stay in Hyrule, Ganin comes back, oh no Link is 80 let's make him 15 and Ganon dies to Link. Done.

You know looking at the art design for the weakened Ganon that slipped out of the seal and wreaked havoc in TWW, is literally bigger or the size of a mountain, which is way bigger than Beast Ganon or anyone, so maybe he used calamity ganon as a proxy form to take over instead, I mean he looked like a burning skeleton, and the story states that the seal “weakened” not broken, anyways calamity ganon also looked like a giant pig skeleton, so maybe ( I doubt it ) wind waker is one of the closer relatives to the whole Breath of the wild where Ganondorf has more memories having to do with that timeline but contains collective snippets of every time line, also funny name Breath of the wild, as if the massive landscape was freed from something taking the air away, but it’s a reach tbh I think all of this is a stretch but also sounds like some good background canon as well, if I was told that I wouldn’t complain, but more possible it probably just a separate timeline where everything came crashing back together so some things are all melded in a universe where nothing looks out of place, and every history has a point of interest, I mean gawd ganon looks like he’s been through the ringer on this one I honestly hope he wins this round, my boys got it ruff at least so he can lose in the third botw, but yeah I think if we were facing that type of ganon, in a revitalized state that remembered every single loss, and information on powers from other timelines, like he finds vaati, makes him a servant again, goes and grabs the majoras mask, and Zant which may have not died in this time line with no ganon sealed to tickle his pecker with the promise of power, just any thing to help him get the job done this time, that would be too crazy I think but I would like to touch on more stuff in this universe, cause seeing a link with no idea what any of these bosses or artifacts even are but they know the idea of the Hero of the Triforce and holder of courage would be a plot twist, I mean in a world that seemed to have recognized links potential from a young age where we were already a glorified hero that worked for the kingdom of hyrule, seems it would make sense if everyone else had an idea too.

I think Windwaker Ganondorf would have been a good king. Unlike his OOT incarnation. My theory is, that Ganondorf, the Gerudo Man, is an incarnation of Groose. Groose was heavily hinted to be the ancestor of all Gerudos in Skyward Sword. Ganon is the pig demon sent by Demise, to turn Groose's incarnations insane. Why did Demise do this to Groose? Groose played a bit part in Zelda and Link sealing Demise away. So why wouldn't he chase Link's and Zelda's friend on them over and over again? There's something sadistic about making it their friend, who's the one cursed with insanity and trying to kill them. Now, the curse doesn't kick in immediately, which is why OOT Ganondorf while Link was still a kid seemed hella chill. He didn't quite try to kill Link, he just knocked the little rascal on his ass and laughed. He didn't invisioned Hyrule Castle Town to turn out the way he turned it into. Ganondorf simply was driven by insanity at this point. Windwaker Ganondorf, I have strong belief he would have ended Demise's curse, had he gotten to the Triforce just a few minutes prior. When he grabbed Link, he said: "Let's end what binds us together." By this, he must have meant the curse. Ganondorf is officially stated to be Demise's hatred, but to me, Ganon is the reincarnation of Demise's hatred. Ganondorf is simply unlucky enough to be cursed all the time. And also, isn't Ganondorf a mage? There must be some earth magic spells that Gan could use to either destroy or move mountains.

About giving Hyrule to Ganondorf I don't believe that it would become the Hell on Earth that is the Dark World of Future portions of OoT most because this is the Ganondorf that won lost and won. What I mean is that again in WW he ONLY lost his cool after victory became impossible for him. Then again what do I know I have never been able to play WW as of writing this.

I think I like the surface being a monster infested hell-world idea... I imagine that if it were a game, it could essentially be a mix of Skyward Sword's Skyworld/Surface & Alrest from Xenoblade 2! My head-canon... The gods, watching as Ganondorf makes his wish, do in fact intervene, and create a protective barrier of clouds, as deep as the water used to be, but enough sky for Ganondorf's new land (I imagine that in the day, the sky in Ganondorf's Hyrule would look like Norvrandt's Eternal Daylight from FFXIV: Shadowbringers, prompting him to darken the sky in places with magic)... This sea of clouds, would still have creatures within it, since sky-dwelling sea-creatures are always a thing in sky worlds... And would require Salvaging to become a more booming business than it was in Wind Waker, with that one crew out at sea...

Ganondarf has to gather the triforce twice to be able to use the thing in the first place cuz it splits each time but I wounder what would happen if he touched it when there isn’t someone wothery of the other two parts of it at the same time like no current link or Zelda?

Ah. Another person who fails to recognize any of Ganondorf's sympathetic qualities in Wind Waker or any of the things that made him the good guy in the last hours of the game until King Douchebag of Hyrule pissed him off

What if Ganon Won in Twilight Princess

My question is why didn't a hero come? It would have been a new link by that point anyway so why wasn't a new link just born? All he needs is the triforce of courage which is obviously still in wind waker. Does the hero HAVE to be a descendant of Link then? but the Link windwaker is obviously a hero so why did he arrive so late? The heroes have always been on time before.

I still think Ganondorf's wish was pretty much useless at that time. It may easily end up as a reverse final battle where instead of Hyrule getting flood the water is going away. He would have to kill Link or get rid of the Master Sword and the King before becoming the ruler of a wasteland. Unless time travel/Dimension change happens.
