When it comes to the Harvesters losing the ground war in Africa, the novelization explained how this could happen. They actually are not as technologically advanced as they let on. Their ships are described as ancient and rusted. These ships have been around for thousands of years. And that even their city destroying weapon is similar to a giant fire bomb. Seems like the Harvesters hit a certain level of technology and then just stagnated on their one successful strategy for victory. So the aliens are not as adapt at ground warfare as they could have been due to this stagnation and relying on one plan for victory. With that in mind, the idea that they eventually lost to a less advanced species on the ground is not so far fetched. Especially when you consider just how horribly outnumbered the Harvesters would be. They are trapped in an unfamiliar and hostile environment, surrounded by enemies, along with an inability to resupply, replace or even properly repair their damaged tech. Their failed invasion has become a war of attrition and the odds are very much not in their favor.

Hollywood often forgets about Australia in their disaster movies. It's something we often joke about here. Aliens are invading? Quick come to Australia, you'll be right. Giant meteorite is coming? Quick come to Australia, you'll be right. New ice age? Quick come to Australia, you'll be right. Armageddon is here? Quick come to Australia, you'll be right. We might have snakes, sharks and spiders, but at least according to Hollywood, we can avoid most of the humanity ending disasters.

I mean, Brazil produces enough food to feed a billion people. Aka 5 times our population. We may be very poor, but we wouldn't starve. We literally have more cattle than people here. And Venezuela is full of oil.

You know, I don't expect you to do this soon (or at all), but I would really like to know how realistic the XCOM games are and, if they are horribly inaccurate post-alien-invasion like Independence Day, what the realistic timeline would look like. Like I said, I don't expect this to be a video anytime soon if at all due to the fact that you literally just did 2 videos with aliens, but it'd still be cool to see

Alternatively since only rural areas remain, riot and looting are going to be rare because of the low population density. Furthermore people in those regions are capable of growing food and feeding themselves, so famine won't happen. There may even be an excess of food. Energy infrastructure remains intact as gas lines, coal mines, offshore drilling platforms, shale oil (albeit a more recent energy source) do not reside in major cities. Militaries across the world remain functional, since they do not station in city centers. Hence despite the loss of intellectual, financial, and cultural centers, the worst case scenario may not happen because simply, most of the urban population, a.k.a. source of unrest, perished.

This scenario could have been used to make for a much more interesting film premise. What if the aliens where also crippled by the war? What if they don't have their big, massive spaceships anymore? The film could have been about humans trying to overthrow the alien enclave with small gorilla attacks while also trying to deal with the many human looters and dwindling resources. If you want a "humans bond together through adversity" theme, you could have ended the film with a group of survivors from all different areas forming a small rural comunity at the end to show that civilisation may one day rebuild. Or something like that anyway.

I think these are probably the most accurate scenarios as to what would happen after ID4.

Here's some other problems Humanity would face post Independence Day apocalypse: 1.) Possible on going oil spills and radioactive regions from unmaintained, damaged, and/or destroyed oil refineries and rigs as well as nuclear power plant core melt downs and even nuclear weapons facilities and other large scale weapons munitions facilities all over the world in devastated or abandoned areas. 2.) Possible on-going wild fires both natural and caused by the alien super lasers firing, burning uncontrollably across the planet where the attacks took place and their surrounding areas. 3.) The firing of the alien super lasers could've possibly triggered tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and other natural disasters worldwide depending on where they were fired and how powerful the super lasers were when firing to affect the geological surface and crust of the Earth itself. (for example, firing on cities in California could've triggered the San Andreas Fault to have massive earthquakes in the aftermath of the first alien attack wave). Any survivors from the first wave alien attack could've been caught up in these aftershock natural disasters caused by the initial attack. 4.) Possible environment and climate changes brought on by the alien first wave attack where many plant and animal species would go extinct throughout the planet. Burning fossil fuel spills, wild fires, erupting volcanos, etc. on a worldwide scale could possibly kill off many plant and animal species and their ecosystems as well as contribute to blocking out the sun for years causing an ice age. So many problems would be caused in the aftermath of these alien attacks, it makes me wonder what the aliens will do with a planet they trashed themselves worse than Humanity ever did to it.

Hello AlternateHistoryHub, I love your videos and your Channel, I'm a big fan and I've got a video request. I'm just curious but could you do a video covering the Wolfenstein video game series? Specifically what would it take for the Nazis to create the fictional Technology, and the experimentations with undead creatures seen in the games. I know you have already done similar videos like The Man in the High Castle, and What if the Germans won World War 2, but I would like to see you talk about the Nazis from Wolfenstein.

Also I remember Aussie fighter pilots listening to the American speech. So I mean one ship should be enough to take em out.

Refugees from "north Canada" heading into the American midwest? Sorry bub, but going by the website for the new movie it would probably happen the other way. Canada loses it's three biggest cities, but at most that's a loss of about seven million people. That still leaves 75% of our population alive. (Including our capital, so the government is around to direct rebuilding and defense.) And more importantly - it leaves most of our country intact and undestroyed. All those contiguous pipelines, oil wells, electrical grids, highways and farms covering most of the country are still there. Now contrast that with the US, where the aliens roved at will, blowing up major cities in every part of the country (except for Hawaii, I guess) which simultaneously blew giant holes in the infrastructure networks that connect the survivors. The US would be in very bad shape, and despite still having all that arable farmland there would be mass starvation at first, since so many distribution and storage centers were destroyed. Combine that with hundreds of millions of refugees, and a loss of government control as surviving state capitals now have to handle major problems they never signed up for, and you get a recipe for anarchy. At least for a few years, until the President could use the remaining military to establish some kind of martial law. Canada's biggest problem would be keeping US refugees out, since there would probably be countless millions of starving, sick people streaming north hoping to resettle somewhere that still has relatively intact infrastructure. It would be a big challenge for our government to handle. We could never keep all the refugees out, since there'd be too many. (And when the American government eventually regained control over it's territory it would be extremely angry with Canada if we used harsh measures.) Ultimately we'd have to set up some kind of refugee camps on the border, housing and feeding as many as we could while simultaneously trying to do the same thing for survivors of our own destroyed cities. It would be quite a challenging time.

In Part 1, you mentioned that all the 108 cities combined would only tally up to at most one Gigadead. I would have been more interested in a scenario less self-contradictory than the official canon, where trade and development would still have been possible. Obviously the USA would be pretty much the world of FallOut, and Australia would rule the world, but it would still have been more interesting than "rocks fall, everybody dies."

Again, I call bullshit. What about Russia? It would lose a few cities, but would have actually suffered fewer casualties and devastation than it did in WWII, and it recovered from THAT conflict by becoming a global Superpower within twenty years. Ships were minimally affected by the invasion. You're telling me sea trade would just automatically wither and die? Wouldn't vital harbors and port cities be rebuilt at least in part to keep sea trade flowing? Also, the survivors adopting alien tech is highly probable, since it was demonstrated in the original movie that they already figured out how to fly the alien subcraft like the fighters. So post-invasion they suddenly have thousands of anti-grav vehicles at their disposal. That has no affect on anything? And the Mexican government falls to cartels? Seriously? That's Fox News level bullshit and is dependent on the view that Mexico is some backward third world nation and not a modern industrialized country. The same with your view on South America in general Also, post-invasion, the human in africa had access to alien tech themselves, including alien weapons. is it really that unlikely that the humans could win there under those circumstances?

One thing: Every military would avoid direct contact, as history, the middle east and Vietnam teached us: Guerrilla is the most effective tactic to defeat a superior equipted force. An AK maybe not enough, a soda can filled with explosives and nails combined with a tripwire does the job. An invasion is expensive in ressources, making it unprofitable to keep on is the best tactic

You should make a video on Australia being swapped with America ( like Australia being a superpower and not America ) and how that would of change world ( like World War I and II, the Cold War being USSR vs China vs Australia in stead of America ) please make a video on this I think it would be interesting

I do believe even in the movie that the aliens also had most of the major cities they could in South America and Africa they had plenty of motherships even if they just went to the capital of every country it still would have been disastrous for the world. But considering how many major cities there are it would be highly unlikely that they would skip most of the major cities in Africa. In Africa alone they would obviously hit Egypt Morocco Nigeria South Africa baby may go over to eastern part of Africa and hit a couple couple of other cities on Central and West and possibly even a few on the East part of Africa to would be wiped out. In South America Rio de Janeiro would be wiped out as well with probably the capitals of Chile Argentina Ecuador Venezuela they'll even had a couple of the major cities in Central America Mexico City probably I wouldn't be surprised if they hit Cancun as well Panama City would probably be wiped out Australia they would probably hit Melbourne and Sydney. Suffice to say once they hacker Global Communications Network like they did in the movie they would most likely hit every major port city in the world

Ooh... I did a long comment on the last video about how much little part of Australia would fare, based on the experiences of sort of similar disasters over the last few months and about thirty years ago, but I completely forgot that Canberra (and therefore our government and political system) would survive. The points still stand that there would be immediate issues in my local area around power, water and sewage; as well as the point that with the major centres gone, most of our emergency relief services would also be destroyed and the regional centres would be left to survive on their own. However, when communication outside the immediate area is restored, at least we (along with NZ, who also has a non-major-population-centre capital city) would be one of the few places in the world with an intact government (inasmuch as our government ever functions). Assuming that Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane are destroyed, that would leave Adelaide, Darwin, and regional centres in the eastern states like Albury-Wadonga and Ballarat, as the major population centres of the country. I'm leaving out Perth because I imagine Western Australia would use the opportunity of the British Parliament (their impediment to leaving the Commonwealth of Australia) to declare independence. Since Perth would remain unscathed, I suppose WA would become one of the major world powers as they would still have access to all the oil and precious minerals they're busy mining.

I'd imagine this would end up like The Last Ship. Since most of the population died on the show

México: We have a contrastant history but in a situation like this the Mexican people will join to help themselfs, forget about the government, they dont work anyway... but the cartels are some real warlords and bussinesmans who need to readjust his power and work for the new reality (without the USA drugs market are worthless, yep you know it american junkies) so they will work with the farmers (like they do now), having the control of the land to farm is the new way to power. We dont need to go Northamerica... our seas, lands and diversity is better than anything on that side, but surely we will retake some lands (Texas, Arizona and California) because talking about population only latinos will survive (they dont live on the big cities but on small towns) so we will readjust to our wild wild west version of government.

.....I don't think Africa would be as bad off, the reason it's in constant war is because of global trade, special interest flood Africa with drugs and money while buying up the land and shipping of the natural resources. If that stops Africa not only stops spiraling down but actual has a shot of getting better. Many towns and villages already farm and trade within a small networks. Populations in African and South America can properly organize without foreign interest constantly over throwing the people they choose. I have no doubt that in the beginning warlords will take over but without the constant and unnaturally stimulation their reigns don't last long.

Still a bit egocentric. There will be a sharp drop in global of drug and human traffickers since the demand in Europe and the us are gone. Also without the world superpowers to stop the central and south American governments from executing said traffickers , these countries will be quite stable and prosperous. The Caribbean and south America will also be the only place in the western hemisphere with functioning farms, manufacturing complexes, oil refineries, governments and military( including navy and air force) they will be in the best position to advance socially technologically. The southern hemisphere will do great since 90% of their resources are no longer going to the north. Africa should be able to deal with the aliens no matter how advance their weapons. The only main advantage the aliens had were their shields and since ordinary hand guns can kill them( as seen in the movie) a small occupation in Africa will be quickly snuff out.

Assuming the sequel didn't exist, and they aliens were simply repelled and decided to move on to another planet to colonize (we've got a few Earth-like planets they may try), how would society rebuild and how long would it take to put make things similar to the way they are now?

Makes sense. It's funny how Australia seems to be the country that would be best off in "end-of-the-world" scenarios. I can't remember where I read it, but somewhere out there is the theory that Australia would be the safest/best place to be in a Zombie Apocalypse, along with Canada. I think the USA is in there as well, but only because of basically a gun being behind every blade of grass (or because we've watched/played enough zombie stuff to know what to do without trying).
