The most unrealistic part is Africa being impoverished under Roman rule. Throughout all of its history, there has never been one place conquered by Rome in which the Roman Empire didn't build infrastructures such as roads, stadiums, aqueducts, thermal baths, courthouses, temples and many more. I doubt that Africa would have been different.

Ngl the “Russian Winter” thing beating back Rome is kinda funny. History…repeats? This is a new timeline so yeah but still, the Russian Winter is stronk.

@dihvocfoscocudvyvdd8101 I highly doubt what you say about horse carriages but yes, Russian Winter was mostly a myth made by the nazis to divert the attention from Hitler's poor strategic choices.

What he's saying is that the nazis were mostly unmechanized and overstretched. Both yours and their statement are, in some sense, true.@@lordbelou7279

I think a lot about a scenario I made up where Napoleon won the Napoleonic wars, establishing an Empire that would eventually conquer most of the Old World. Does that count as thinking about Rome?

it's thinking about Rome with an extra step, it counts

Haven't finished yet but I can guess that Technological Advancement would be delayed massively

Without the Dark Ages I'm not sure.., remember that cost tech for about 1000 years... just my opinion
@echidnanatsuki882
@echidnanatsuki882 9 месяцев назад
@@Donathon-qx8kq without fierce competition between numerous states, technology wouldn't advance fast due to the lack of drive of exploring new kinds of technology to surpass their rivals. This is the reason why Asian Countries despite having promises of becoming tech superpowers and were even more advanced than Europe back then, were easily defeated by the Europeans because the Europeans surpassed them after inventing guns.
@090giver090

@@Donathon-qx8kq The "Dark Ages" were not _that_ Dark (except for small and poor province of Brittania). And a lot of technological advances of the Middle ages such as Three-field system and ship Rudder were invented at these times.
@uja11
@uja11 5 месяцев назад
the whole "dark ages" thing is largelly a myth made up by Renaissance-era scholars who wanted to discredit the era that they came out of in favour of classical thought - Europe saw, in many regards, more technological advancement in the dark ages than it did during the rome.@@Donathon-qx8kq

This exactly. If East Asian nations split into smaller states and stayed that way, and the majority of europe remained under the thumb of the Roman Empire it wouldn't be unreasonable to say that the 1800s would have played out in reverse. Eg. the Romans being the massive stagnant empire (it was already stagnant for a century before its collapse, I don't get where people think we would be colonizing mars if Rome survived) that gets picked apart by East Asian colonialists.
@s4m1r_65
@s4m1r_65 9 месяцев назад
well, since society basically got back on track from the renaissance onward, and some knowledge of ancient rome like how roman concrete was made, was only discovered in the 21st century, it's safe to say the world would have industrialized earlier

The east falling and the west surviving is the most unrealistic alternative roman timeline ive ever heard...
@wildviper
@wildviper 6 месяцев назад
Why tho
@Chabier-mx2mz
@Chabier-mx2mz 6 месяцев назад
@@wildviper hmm... Firstly by the V century, even IV centyry, it was already a much less corrupted, more organized and centralized state than the West. Military and strategically speaking, it was also mucho better. In the balkans it had the Danube as natural defense but even more important, the Teodosian Walls and the strategic and well defended Constantinople. This made imposible for any tribe or confederation that came from Europe, north of the Danube, to get pass to the rich provinces of the East, Levant and Egypt, wich for a long time were the backbone of the roman economy in the east. This is the reason, in fact, why the West was so overwelmed (idk how to spell it) by foreign invaders wich couldnt spoil or settle much beyond the Balkans (and even so until the arrival of the bulgarians romans manage to keep it, wich is impressive), it was much less defendable and it was much more politically inestable, ruralized and poor than the Eastern Roman Empire, having plenty of civil wars and leaving its provinces mostly undefendend. This didnt happened in the east, and when it did, it was usually more brief coupes d'etat and dinastic changes that leaded not to civil wars. All this and much more is why... I mean this people even survived the Arab Conquest of VII and VIII centuries, and some historians even say egypt and specially Levant and Syria only fell so quickly because of the monophicist... Meanwhile the west, besides all ive talked about already, had too many problems to be able to solve them in the situation it was on by the time. Yes there where some attempts to "rescue" the west, to bring it back to its former glory and more importantly to bering a powelfull and stable state, some came pretty close like Maioranus'... Aye, im not saying the west couldnt be saved or couldnt reemerge. In a timeline where Rome never fell, i personally think this is imperative... But having the East fall...
