Nah, I like to not give Smee that much credit. It would be better to just have it be an ironic thing. Like, Smee is sneaking Hook's food, and Hook just allows it, because he's using Smee as an unknowing poison test.

While I like the premise, I always thought this movie stretched its own logic quite a bit, and here that logic is stretched even more. I thought, "Why would Jack even like Hook, let alone want to be his son?" The 1991 film gave him some "daddy issues," but, if anything, you'd think they'd have motivated him to not want a father of any kind! And the "Stockholm syndrome" rationalization never made sense to me either. Victims of Stockholm syndrome usually are sexually attracted to their captors and/or come to sympathize with the captor's ideology and goals. But Jack was never homosexual (and WAY too young for Hook in any case, but never mind!), and Hook was nothing more than a money-grubbing pirate - which, as Jack's grandmother pointed out, was something that Peter Banning himself had become! And in this sequel, the idea of Mr. Smee as a pro-Hook mastermind makes even less sense. As far as I can tell, Smee has always been portrayed as a cowardly sidekick, loyal to Hook only because he's seen what Hook has done to crew members who were not so loyal. And when Jack was Hook's captive, Smee was genuinely friendly to the boy and came off as pretty sympathetic. Finally, during the climactic battle when the tide was turning against the crew of the Jolly Roger, Smee tried to escape as soon as Hook told him to "do something intelligent." Doesn't sound like someone who's eager to be a pirate! Maybe Jack would have turned, but he'd probably be on his own - and if Smee had still been with him, Jack would probably have had as much contempt for him as Hook did.

@@SeasideDetective2 this pitch is as mentioned a "what if", in which Jacks Dad is dead, and he is left alone on the Jolly Roger. I can buy he would become a pirate. If Smee could fashion him into the next Captain Hook, and hold off any other pirates want to be Captain, I dont think so. The stuff in the movie Hook works for the story it wants to tell, its not looking to get bogged down with the science of stockholm syndrome

I have seen it happen in rl as well father being an ass another guy treathing them well (not in a creepy way) its not at all far fetched also they explain in the movies neverland does something with your old memories

Continued due to youtube error: Because the protagonist was starting to show signs of connecting dots, Pan decided to give him a task that would supposedly give him loads of respect among them, when in reality this task was given to those that he wanted to be killed off. He would have to go and get Captain Hook's hook. The lost boys knew that no one would come back alive from this task, while the vice-leader used this talking point to make it sound like a cool and heroic task. Twisting those facts into something else to manipulate everyone around him. But even he was showing signs of faltering, like he wasn't sure if he truly meant what he said or if his facade of an act was starting to fall apart. Where did he end and his facade begin? The protagonist agrees to take the task, but with ulterior motives. It was very clear at this point that Pan was the biggest monster here, while the pirates had shown they weren't very motivated by anything. They were downright depressed. So once he arrived in the pirate haven, he makes his presence clear, stating he wants to talk. He had been given a sword for defending himself, but he threw it aside blatantly so they'd know he doesn't mean anything bad. The pirates seemed strangely afraid of him at first, looking at him cautiously before finally approaching him, having figured that if this was a trap, it should've been set off by now. It was just the kid, who had those eyes. Eyes of someone who wants out, yet with a sense of remaining innocence. Someone who hadn't been corrupted by the island yet. They let the boy in on what is truly going on. This "island" is a realm upheld by the Wraith Pan. He was a boy whose youthful spirit remained on after his early demise. Not wanting to move on, his will created this realm where he could live on forever, a realm that was at first lonely as it wasn't inhabited by anyone else. So he went out of his way to seek others who were like him, young and not wanting to grow up. He brought their spirits onto the island as well to have adventures with them. But eventually they all left, leaving him all by himself again, as to them it was just a fun short visit that was fun while it lasted, but they'd all still need to grow up eventually. Pan never wanted to grow up, and he was tired of being left alone. So instead of bringing in those who knew they'd grow up, he started targeting those who wouldn't ever grow up. Those cursed by an illnesses that couldn't be treated. If his will could create this realm for souls to inhabit, could his will also twist fate so much that an illness would target those he could have fun with? Whether intentional or not, this came to be and his new lost boys were very reluctant to leave, knowing only death would await them at home. But once one's actions are tainted by blood, it will start to spread everywhere. It was no longer enough that they just had fun, no. It needed to be more thrilling, the followers needed to be more to his liking, to follow his demands more, to do more spectacular things. What started as an innocent escape had become a cult. So... what could be done now? The protagonist wasn't the first one who had come to them, there had been others before him, and nothing had changed. The pirates were powerless to put an end to Pan as they too were a creation of his influence. They were those lost boys that had turned against him, and were now turned into old adults to fit Pan's negative view of adulthood. The only thing he ever let close to him were the lost boys, which the protagonist was still considered to be a part of as he hadn't begun aging yet. Someone from the lost boys would need to strike him down. But to ask a mere child to commit murder was messed up, especially one who was already this traumatized. So instead maybe they could try to convince the others? His friends at the very least were still somewhat new and not fully conditioned by the emotional, mental, information and behaviour manipulation done by the group. It was at least worth a try. If it wouldn't work.. well.. what exactly would change? He was going to die form his disease anyway. What would follow after this is that the protagonist indeed heads back to try and talk to the group, despite the pirates suggesting him to stay with them. He would age up quickly and get picked on by the lost boys, but at least he'd get to live in some way. Yet he was adamant about trying to speak sense to them, wanting to help the people who too suffered like he did. At first it wasn't really working, as he was being laughed at and being called as a traitor by Pan and his loudest supporters. But the protagonist kept on, trying to plead to them to think about everything that was wrong with this place, how they had lost their friends, how they were made to do horrible things. Only for this to lead accusations about him not appreciating their friendship, about him not belonging there. And then the pirates attacked. Seeing the protagonist head back to them like that had been enough to motivate them to try something at least, and they had decided to start a whole fight. A fight that they couldn't win as determined by the island's rules. No pirate can ever beat a lost boy, and the "Hook" could never beat the Pan. But after hearing the protagonist's words some of the lost boys found themselves questioning themselves, reluctant to deal any killing blows on the pirates who had been clearly holding back as well. The Pan had the captain already disarmed with his blade by his neck, shouting at the rest while questioning where was their spirit, where was their courage. Only for him to be struck from behind by the vice-leader. With tears in his eyes, he says that he wants to go home before pulling the blade back, letting Pan fall to the ground. The island would begin to crumble, the sky would turn red to match the blood as the ground and everything else was somehow starting to fall downwards into nothingness. As everything was falling around them, the captain could be seen holding Pan close to himself. Like a long lost friend holding someone very dear to him. And then.. Hospital. They were all back in the hospital, but feeling somehow fine. The disease had somehow vanished over night, they were somehow cured despite no one knowing how it could even be possible. The disease was somehow gone for good. The disease named after a boy they had come to know as the vice leader of the lost boys. Well I guess I just wrote an entire sketch of a script for a horror story in a youtube comment section. I hope anyone who reads it doesn't find it too cringy.
