Joel Ygot I mean no not in this use. Just saying “America” in English is often used as shorthand for the United States of America, similar to how just saying “Mexico” is used as the shorthand for the United Mexican States (official name). Drew is literally correct, as the America he is referring to isn’t the geographical term used to encompass both continents which make up the New World, but rather the shorthand to refer to the singular nation known as the United States of America.

Guanavarre (In the region where Rio is located) is French, and Nassau (Northeast Brazil) is Dutch. Both are historically accurate because France tried to invade Rio once but failed, and the Netherlands actually controlled most of that land in the northeast from 1630 to 1654, but the Portuguese kicked them out of there

The only reason they wanted peace from the Ottoman Empire was to capture almost all of the lands, and when they couldn't, they did a lot of propaganda about minority and civil rights. "Why did we keep all of the old British names" because early Americans were Brits Drew they were culturally the same people they just didn't want to be ruled by the British crown anymore. And Even today many US accents still preserve features from old English accents meaning the primary cultural influence on America is of British origin. The idea of a culturally separate America is much newer than the idea of a politically separate one

10:36 that actually isn’t a way worse deal because more then half of the Italian industry and population lives in the Po valley there are major cities such as Genoa, Milan, Turin, Bologna, Florence, Pisa, and Venice in that area, while in the south (which has a significantly larger land area) they only have the major cities of Rome, Bari, Palermo, Catania, and Naples.

As a Turk I am really pissed after what you said at 2:03. These lands were taken back forcefully by our national hero Atatürk. The greeks outnumbered the Turkish forces severely but we won the war. Michigan has that upper peninsula as a compromise between Michigan and Ohio. They used to have a bitter rivalry over what is known as the Toledo Strip. Ohio received the Toledo strip and congress gave the Upper Peninsula to Michigan from the unsettled Northwest territory.
