As someone that built Baron Von Count casual deck (and counted down each trigger like i was on Sesame Street) the Baron only checks the *Numerals* in the mana cost, not the mana value. So Ad Nauseum (3BB) would count for 3 not 5. Hoarding Broodlord (5BB) counts for 5. There are a couple cards that have all 5 numbers and can trigger him at any stage. (Archfiend of Ifnir i think is one?). You can also copy his triggers to either move the counter two places with one cast, or kill two players when it reaches the last trigger. The most difficult part of building the deck was getting the Scryfall syntax correct to filter for the different numbers.

Richard Garfield has to be the exact mana cost. 3UU for force of will, not 5. You can’t run any spell with mana cost of exactly B for consult.

For Baron Von Count, I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't count 5-CMC cards since the wording is different from something like Talion. He says that the number has to be "IN the mana cost" rather than the CMC itself.

Spike says “has been banned or restricted”, so you can actually get some cards that were banned in the past, but aren’t banned today. It turns out Voltaic Key was banned back in Urza’s Block constructed, so you can get key + Time Vault for a pretty simple kill line!

For Nocturne, name 'spell'. It hits everything counter spell wise, kraum, important enchantments, if going full control name 'target' and then kill spells, hand strips, etc also hit.

Also wanna mention Magar goes infinite with any extra combat spell under the Minotaur so there are a bunch of basically one-card combos with it.

Richard Garfield does say mana cost includes color so a Ponder (U) can't be a Demonic Consult (B).

For Noctua, I'd imagine "Sacrifice" would be pretty nuts. Lotus petal, lion's eye diamond, Jeweled lotus, and any cheap creature or artifact with a sacrifice trigger/ability will go brrr

I have a built Nocturna and Ignacio high power casual deck. I used the word "target" for Nocturna and "sword" for Ignacio and without playing CEDH combos the deck can easily pop off. Dockside has a sword in one of its versions. Rog is a ritual. Cards like abrade (crimson vow) have target and a sword on so it cantrips and I "cast it for free"

Hey Guys! Just wanted to point out there seems to be a really high pitch sound coming from your mics. It stopped during the intro music, and then started right when you started talking. I’ve noticed this has happened with loose or dirty XLR cables in my past, and this can make for difficult listening for fans with tinnitus. Thanks! Unfortunately no Demonic Consultation for Richard Garfield because the mana cost includes color. It is still pretty flexible though but I'm not familiar with the entire list of blue cards so I think it ends up being pretty difficult to evaluate.

Unrelated but i hope you guys see this Two combos i think could be fun in cedh Wick the rat snail commander from bloomburrow + conspiracy and a sac outlet into an x spell or combo chain And demon excrutiator+ wheel and deal

x is also really good because it ignores timing restrictions, so you get to hold up counter magic then endstep activate

For Nocturno, I think the best words to chose is one of the following: Counter, Target, or Spell. Counter is great because it turns your counter spells into cantrips, but if you choose to name target, you now open the benefits to removal (although that is also a downside to naming target)

X's ability also ignores timing restrictions. So you can cast that Peer into the abyss at instant speed. 👍

So i have a brew of Ignacio with just any black partner. its goal is to ad nasueam or peer into the abyss, fill its hand with any of these 1 or 2 drop fire cards since they all replace themselves on mana, then grapeshot/tendrils of agony/ignite memories for a win. maybe multiple. my brew is NOT cedh but it is close. if you Rograkh in the 99 adds 2 treasures, so does stuff like dark ritual (STA printing), sol ring, arcane signet (40k printing), and faithless looting. its a very fun deck in theory.

I have a pretty jank magar list, but he goes infinite with stuff like rise of the eldrazi (extra turns and much card draw), as well as savage beating and aggravated assault if the card that connects has a ritual effect. rise of the eldrazi is probably the best since it also destroys a permanent while drawing four cards, so it will allow you to remove any blockers or stax pieces in order to continuously beat down the table!

I love Pheobe, head of SNEAK. She steals text boxes so it’s pseudo removal AND gives you the card. I think it has potential since removing opponents stax pieces and making them yours may be pretty cool. MY oppo agent.

Magar goes infinite with extra combat spells assuming you can get the creature with that spell through. So you could run any of savage beating, world at war, seize the day, relentless assault or fury of the hoard, and maybe run some stuff like traitor's clutch to give it shadow, so if you can get a free discard outlet its a 5 mana win con with magar in play. Not the absolute best in cedh I know, but even without the traitor's clutch, there are a lot of games where someone ends up without blockers, and the extra combat spell just kills them. You could also run the red extra turn spells with sundial of the infinite or glorious end, giving you infinite turns so long as those creatures always get through.

For nocturno of myra's marvels, imagine just naming 'target'. Still works for pretty much every counter spell but works with tons of other stuff, too

If you choose the word "Partner" with Nocturno, and play it with Dargo or Rograkh, that seems good.

I played Baron Von Doom at a cEDH(ish) level on a guest spot with @VeilofDeathMTG where we rule zero'd Unset generals. I never got to do the thing. But it still looked to have some potential.

41:36 My buddy built meet and great Sisay we rule 0 it in to play, and he was turn 3-5 killing people with extra combats and unblockable Sisay commander damage! Some of the older cards had 4-6 lines of flavor text and she feeds her self! Crazy

Lol, I like how Cam got the first example wrong-ish. Cuz the card wants the NUMERAL to appear, and Ad Naus does not have the Numeral 5 anywhere on the card. Its mana value is 5, but its cost has the numeral 3 in it. Entomb has NO numerals on it at all. Baron von Count is whacky. Like... Temur Sabretooth is good though cuz it can trigger 2 (The numeral in its cost), 4 (Its power), 3 (Its toughness), or 1 (The numeral in its activation cost). It literally hits every number except 5.

Re: Nocturno You definitely can name a creature type, but you're gonna be reliant on casting spells that mention that type in the text box - I had considered Nocturno/Thrasios as a Sultai merfolk list, naming Merfolk, because so many spells merfolk deck wants mention the type in their rules text

With the release of MH3 and the land, Planar Nexus. Should the one land from Unfinity, Nearby Planet, become legal? It was one of the acorned cards, and probably wouldn't see CEDH play at all because it is a tap land and needs you to pay 1 mana to keep it in play. I wish it were because its just another "every" land type card to play for land matters decks for the not so great strategy of mazes end or similar decks.

With spike can’t you run all of the untap artifacts then just do time vault combo and you only need like 2 activations to combo so then the rest can be protection. Land like cript to play spike and voltaic key then get a lotus and time vault. I mean it’s stupid broken no matter what.

Nocturno Word of Choice: TARGET. Go apeshit with removal, counters, auras, ETBs, etc.

the alien ooze commander is more like a necrotic ooze or trazyn the infinite, your not combining etb's you are combining activated abilitys that on 2 different cards are safe but when you have access to both on one creature they combo off.

I've got a primer on Baron on Moxfield (Ah! Ah! Ah!). Incredibly fun commander, just not good enough for cedh. Hit me up if you want any advice.
