Howdy folks, for this video, I decided to hold another contest. So, I had an AI text generator create some prompts for some alternate history scenarios, held a vote to see which one would be made into a video, and had my Discord server come up with some scenarios! The prompt that ended up winning was "What if the Chinese Civil War Never Happened?", and I used the prompt that I liked the best. Enjoy!

More of a best case scenario. Sun might not have been able to secure help from foreign powers to Yuan would have defeated him thus establishing a new Imeprial Dynasty like he briefly did in real history. Even if Sun could secure US and German backing, Yuan could have gone to Japan and Britain, which opens a whole new can of worms.

A couple of things you forgot. Korea wouldn't be divided, and it's probable that Vietnam wouldn't fall to communism. With the domino-effect that Cambodia and Laos wouldn't fall to this toxic ideology either. So, Khmer Rouge would be routed out, and these criminals would be charged with terrorism. All in all a more stable Asia.

That's some real truth to that. Heck, from what I've read even Chiang Kai-Shek had struck an agreement with FDR to recognize Korea as a sovereign unified republic after it was fully liberated from Japan (IIRC, he stated that he hoped both countries would grow together economically in East Asia in the years after the conflict). Stalin and especially Mao are what split and to an extent derailed Korea's future. America asking Stalin to help us with the Japanese in 1945 is probably one of the top five biggest mistakes we EVER made.

One point of contention. If China did beat back the Japanese in Manchura, that might actually be a wakeup call for Japan to rethink its efforts as it'd be more difficult to ignore that it was stretching itself thin, especially if the fight was rather one-side. Thus, Japan consolidating power in *weaker* parts of Asia in order to hit China on multiple fronts would be a more plausible approach than a "let's shonen this up" style approach
@haochengzhai7156
@haochengzhai7156 Год назад
Do you know why Japan was able to invade Manchuria so quickly? Because the Manchurian soldier was not the same as the government. He was independent. It was controlled by a dude in his 20s and 30s who liked to smoke opium every day. Also China was divided into 5 pieces at that time. They were warlords everywhere. China was not even unified at that time. There was only a nominal government. China also experienced another civil war after the victory over Japan.
@InfernosReaper
@InfernosReaper Год назад
@@haochengzhai7156 Yes, China was a mess, but what I'm saying is that it was still realistic for Japan to lose and such a loss would have been a wake up call to do an overhaul. The Kuomintang of Sun Yat Sen and the Kuomintang of Chiang-Kai Shek are effectively different parties. Sun-Yat Sen was actually significantly Left-wing Politically, and even sought some Soviet Support during the Northern Expedition iirc. Dang Guo, Political Tutelage, is explicitly based off of the "Freedom of Debate, Unity in Action" of Leninist Democratic Centralism. While Yat-sen wasn't a Communist, his version of Tridemism would be more in line with his writings than what kai-shek did.

I agree that the Korean War most likely wouldn’t have happened in this scenario, but the Vietnam war still would have. The conflict in Vietnam has its roots in WW2 like the conflict in Korea did, however the circumstances of both conflict are vastly different. The conflicts in Vietnam were born out of a desire for Vietnamese independence from colonial rule, where as the Korean War was the result of the super powers dividing and occupying former axis lands. The Viet Minh still would have been a thing and Ho Chi Minh would’ve still been prominent in the political environment of the region. As for how China would factor into this timeline’s Vietnam War, they most likely would’ve remained mostly neutral on the surface, but I can see them playing both sides of the conflict. And there definitely still would have been a Third Indochina War between China and Vietnam in the late 70s and into the 80s.

There is a chance the Korean War (some version of it at least) still happens actually, if the Soviets manage to occupy the North before the Chinese do. Remember Stalin and his government personally oversaw the creation of the DPRK, and put Kim Il-Sung in power around 1948. Without Chinese support though, the North Koreans are likely crushed by the UN Coalition unless the Soviets directly intervene (which makes it a lot more frightening).

If Nationalist China exists, they will simply not allow any communist regimes on their borders. The only reason North Korea exists is because of the Chinese invasion. As for North Vietnam, i doubt that even if they were allowed to exist they would ever be able to launch their invasion of the South. Or at least if they did it would be a very short war with the Chinese and the US crushing the North much like in Korea.

In this scenario in the 21st century I foresee this Sino-American relationship developing similarly to the Anglo-American relationship in the 20th Century. The only difference is the US likely wouldn't lose much of it's power in absolute terms, just that China would grow to match it. Unlike the Modern US-UK relationship where the British are clearly the junior partner (sorry, Britain, but it's true), this would be a partnership of true equals.

I cannot see the U.S. being on good terms with ANY state that is its geopolitical equal, regardless of that state's political system. The U.S. and UK share a language, liberal democracy, free speech, etc., but that didn't stop them from competing geopolitically in the 19th century. The only reason relations are close now is because of how one-sided it is

I’m not too sure about this timeline. Sun died from liver cancer in 1925 and, regardless of the timeline, the Republic of China did have a problem with corruption, especially under Shek. If the Republic was to stay united and have it out with the Imperial forces it would be just as destructive as the Warlord Era and the ROC would not be guaranteed to win even with western help, especially if this occurs during WWI. Also, the warlords often fought each other, this would focus all their power under one leader which is even more terrifying. The warlords were former Qing generals that decided to set up their own fiefdoms because they were out of the job, if there is still a nominal imperial government then there is no reason to break off and do their own thing as long as they are getting paid. Yes the ROC would be united, but so would their imperial opponent. The important detail that must be explained is Sun’s ability to bridge communist and nationalist factions. If he stayed on as the president then this might have been achieved but a major war with northern China would take up the focus of his efforts. His presence was sorely needed after 1925 as this was the official break between the communists and nationalists. In the alternate timeline, as long as Shek is kept from the presidency and someone close to Sun that is willing to work with both sides comes to power then there is a possibility of avoiding the Chinese Civil War that happened in our timeline. Republican era China is very complicated and no single change can fix the timeline for the better. Sun would not only have to stay in power but he needed to live at least 10 more years to avoid some of the worst issues of the period. I do not think the north would be united with the rest of China until after WWII like in our timeline. The remnants of the Qing are a hard thing to get rid of and even a nominal imperial government in Manchuria as opposed to a warlord would still give Japan the opportunity to take a foothold in China in 1931. Still, it becomes less likely the PRC would emerge as the victor by the 1950s and you are correct to posit that most of the Cold War conflicts in Asia would be less likely to occur. Vietnam would still have a prolonged conflict between 1945 and the 1960s not because of communism but because of anti-imperialism. Many Vietnamese fought for the communists because they wanted to get rid of Western colonialism, not necessarily because of any pro-communist beliefs.

Let's refer to the Chinese Flag. There's the known Communist China Flag we know today. There's the Kuomintang White Sun Blue Background Flag (aka. the Taiwan Flag). Finally, there's that "First Republic of China" Sun Yat Sen Flag (the one you saw has multiple colored stripes that looks a little bit like a Rainbow). In the case if the Chinese Civil War never happened, I believe the Flag of China would be that Multiple Colored Stripes Flag of the "First Republic of China". Meanwhile that Kuomintang White Sun Flag is the "2nd Republic" (under Chang Kai Shek's Rule), which that "2nd Republic" still more of an Authoritarian Dictatorship. So if the Chinese Civil War never happened & we see Sun Yat Sen still alive & well until WW2 times in the late 1930s, we may also suspect not much of Imperial Japan threat. Additionally, Sun Yat Sen's China will focus mostly on Anti-Communism & Anti-Imperialism & Pro Democracy throughout the entire Asian Continent. Yes, there may be no such thing as Korean War & Vietnam War. I also suspect the USSR may not be form either since a much more stable Republic of China may support the Tsar Russia in economic resources in fighting against the Bolsheviks.

The Indian subcontinent would have been one happy family, and China and India would remain close allies and partners. 3. The Tibetans would be peacefully practicing Buddhism under an elected government. 4. Russia would have been changed into a pro-Western democracy, one way or another. 5. This is just my take on this topic but, I genuinely believe that the current view on Shikai is often over stacked towards his failures with not that much light shown on his achievements, including reasons why he did the actions that he did. Shikai was a brilliant administrator and a politician often compared to Sima Yi, and would be a useful asset to the republic, if he did the decisions that would maintain his power such as making a centrist government (the ROC was extremely politically unstable even prior to may 4th 1919 with most decisions based on emotion and not the national interest, so it would remain wise to form a centrist government based on National not personal issues. This can be solved by forming the Jiwei Club similar to Xu Shichang as shikais proxy in government, however since he would himself consider him above politics as historically so he would be personally bound by personal will to not involve himself in the "parliamentary struggles" that eclipsed the former "palace struggles" of the qing. From this Xu Shichang whom has a history of being connected to Shikai however, with shikai himself stating that he would not involve himself in politics would seek to form a Bi-Partisan coalition between the Kuomintang, Jinbudang or Progressives, and the Constitutionalists. Which would further stabilize the republic into a moderate intra-party coalition. (The CPC isnt a major participant in chinese politics until the May 4th Movement which then it became in the national spotlight). From the stabilization of politics would lead to shikais stress to decrease, thus preventing his limited life from shadowing his choices as he had poor health most members of his family would not live past 60 which may have played a role in his decisions and judgement. With the stabilization of chinese politics he will not seek to become a monarch, as there is no reason to turn his back on an already stabilized chinese democracy. Some historians believe Shikai had a connection to the assasination of Song Jiaoren, but it was largely a seperate event and was not funded by him because it just does not make sense, for one why would be assasinate a major opponent of his if he knew that said opponent would of course become a martyr and spark a 2nd revolution and thus split the Kuomintang from the political sphere, further destabilizing china, second of all china was also still in a time of rebuilding throwing it all away simply to become an authoritarian dictator does not make sense, and third most he only seeked to change the constitution which had stripped him of much powers as the title of "provincial president" but in truth he was only a figurehead of parliament and congress with not that much powers unlike the United States president. With the prevention of Songs assasination either through the enaction of a law that would destroy opium consumption, gambling, and secret societies all which shikai dispised as secret societies were similar to gangs and conducted racketeering rings and often being a thorn in him restabilizing the points of increasing militarization and radicalization in china post revolution. he would be able to work with Sun, whom he had a lukewarm relationship with prior to Songs Assasination from this he would be able to secure his assistance in the coalition, and as such stabilize the Beijing Parliamentary struggles, Shikai would be able to divert his attention to the increasing militarization of Szechuan, often called the treasure vault due to the quantity of products produced in the region, including the ores in the area such as copper, coal, and iron including the fact that it fed the surrounding non fertile provinces with wheat and barley including other foodstuffs. (Szechuan was a major contention point between Railway Protection forces, and Qing Government forces which led to the proliferation of arms across the state most demilitarization, and thus led to the rise in militarization due to a lack of civil administration as the provincial coffers were looted once the Provincial Assemblies government collapsed due to not paying their soldiers properly.) Shikai and his forces were able to cement a proper transition from military to civillian government during his tenure in Beiping, and if he remained in power this could have been cemented further with the rounding up of arms, including collaboration with the Szechuan Preperatory School, and its officers with although short careers, were extremely influential in Szechuan Society, which was largely dominated by the gentry by collaborating with them he could have restabilized the province, and with the funds from the imperial treasury to replenish the provincial treasury. (The qing were split between the National Treasury, and the Imperial Treasury one was for the nation, one was for the imperial family in this timeline he receives it all but in our timeline it was split between 3 generals.) With this the governor of the province would be able to begin reconstruction efforts, deradicalizing and demilitarizing the populace resulting in the restoration of civil rule across southwestern china. Shikai was also known to promote ethnic autonomy, so he could have negotitated with the Mongolians, alongside Tibetans, and other ethnics. With the stabilization of the provinces and the restoration of civil rule, he would be able to receive as much money as the qing were receiving prior to the rebellion, which in our timeline he received a fraction of the national income. And so he could then turn his attention to industrial and economical matters, enacting reforms that were told by Zhang Jian, an influential businessmen, and a pioneer in chinese modernization to everything from education, agriculture, financial, industrial, housing, taxation, land, and law. As he historically preserved the qing law code codification commision under dong kang, and wang konghui which produced a dozen or so laws on everything from penal codes, to legal procedure. This china would be of course on the level of the one described in the video, albeit a tiny bit more stable at most.

This also relies heavily on the US viewing the Chinese as equals. Which they most certainly did not. Even generations later during the Vietnam era war the US wouldn’t even hear Ho Chi Minh out prompting his turn to communism. Equally the Vietnam war would likely still transpire if aforementioned incident still happened to Ho Chi Minh who sought support against the French and ultimately received it from the Soviet’s. Equally I don’t believe he would have alternatively turned to china despite them being anti imperialist in this timeline due to the rather uneasy state of Vietnamese and Chinese history. Korea is plausible but ultimately the communist uprising still would likely have been supported through vladivostok. Rather then it not transpiring at all it likely would have simply led to a proxy war between china and Russia, resulting in a Chinese dominated Korea which may see its incorporation into china proper given their shared history, and cultural/ religious values. However the Koreans likely would still desire independence after what they experienced with Japan meaning it’s really possible either way. In other words Unfortunately racism made our timeline worse. But ultimately it wouldn’t have changed that drastically.

What if President Buchanan hadn't "kicked the can down the road" (vis-a-vis slavery)? Would there have been war? Could there have been a political solution? Would the nation possibly have split amicably?

Personally, I think that the war in Asia would probably be shorter, with other Asian countries may never become communist, and the ussr putting their focus on Africa or Latin America more, with a more aggressive and defensive foreign policy to compensate for the lack of allies in the east. Some countries will never have to went through horrible times like Korea and Cambodia, and some will will went through worse time(South Vietnam was horrible)

Modern China's problems largely stem from their economy booming and giving their politicians alot of gaul/worrying established powers (the west), it would be interesting to see what would happen if China was in today's position 40 years sooner.

Honestly, I feel like there would still have been a crash which is the death of Sun Yat Sen. Just because the communists didn't exist it doesn't mean you can escape liver cancer.

China was not a unified country at that time. It was divided into 5,6 pieces. There was only one nominal government.

This is a meaningless question. When Japan is manipulating and having control over our ancestors, and ancestors was not aware, it is Japan who decides what will happen in our land. It does not matter if which group of our ancestors win.

Sun could appeal to president Wilson since Wilson was all about spreading liberal democratic ideals and self determination. What better face for self determination than an English speaking American educated leader of a revolution?

2'30 : first error. The USA benefited from the uneqhal treaties and as other powers wouldn't agree to rescind them. As such Sun Yat Sen turned over the only true anti-imperialist power of the time : the soviet Union. 3'30 : Slow rate of reform ? I don't think so. Agrarian reform would have come sooner under SYS than under Chang Kai Cheik as he was sincere in his beliefs 4'00 that's forgetting the alliance of the KMT with the communists... So the parties wpuld have merged or coexisted. Also, you forget the "5 races theory" of SYS, who wanted an equal nation for what he considered the people of China (Han , Mandchou and others). That's why the flag had five bands, for five races equals under one nation. 5'00 : unequal treaties that siphoned the trade... 7'00 : indeed. ^^ 7'27 : doubtfull, vietnamise have quute the warry attitude towards China, whatever its regime be.

I wrote a lot more than the video stated, so most of your points are already in the scenario I written. Another point is that the United States would be more likely to accept new trade terms due to Japan and wanting to keep them in check, and so any way to get on China’s good side would be worth short term economic losses from trade.

I think China would have become a Monarcy with the emperor as a figurehead of state since the Chinese feel so Strongly about thier culture and traditions! The Emperor would be mostly powerles with a function likely to the German or the Austrian Presidents, this would give the different groupes of peoples living in China something to identify with!
