Hey I have an idea for you. Keramon was one of and I believe is still the only non-partner Digimon with a full evolution line from Baby to Mega in the Anime. Other antagonists in the series typically tend to start as Champions or higher and only evolve once or twice if at all. So I was wandering, what if every major antagonist Digimon could digivolve without a partner. What would the rest of their evolution line that we didn't get to see look like, based on their personality in the anime, if you de-evolved them down to their earlier stages? Frontier wouldn't be included in this because that was actually one of the few series where the primary antagonists actually could evolve just like the human children though if you wanted to include them a case could be made that the were also using spirits to evolve just like the humans and we never saw what they looked like outside of their spirit evolutions. So in their case it's like who were they under the spirit evolution. Unlike the protagonists I got the impression they were actual Digimon but which ones?
For Yamaki’s Digimon line, I was thinking Gatomon > SkullKnightmon > Craniamon. I feel like Craniamon is a good fit for Yamaki as they are both black knights. Black knights are usually seen as villainous, regarding Yamaki trying to exterminate Digimon, but also can turn for good, regarding Yamaki switching over to our heroes side and also for Craniamon being a vaccine type. Craniamon also has a skull motif which gives helps give connection to SkullKnightmon
I like that. I'll add that Craniamon in the TCG is a blocker (yes, let's stretch this idea to include references to a card that comes out 20 years later) which fits how Yamaki was wanting to defend the human world at the gate. Seems very blocker-oriented to me.

I would have choosen Salamon instead of Gatomon, since I personally don't like that Digimon is showing off Gatomon as kinda of a Sudo-Rookie. It got explained in 02 and in the first Digimon Adventure they also had to fight mostly agains Ultimate and Mega Digimon after Kari joined the group. So there it makes sense on why Gatomon is so weak. But in Adventure 2020 there was no real explanation on why Gatomon stayed on the Champion-Level. Gatomon is a Champion-Digimon and I would love if it would get treaten as one for once. But that's just my personal opinion lmao
It’s nice to actually see adults get Digimon partners for once, even if theoretical. Just because you grow up, doesn’t mean you stop learning and stop having potential. Everyone can learn, everyone can change, everyone can adapt and become better. As these are the “creators” of Digimon (or at least the ones who first made contact with Digimon) I like all the choices you made for their partners. While I would like a kind of “7 God” pantheon idea since they are the ones who made first contact, your ideas work really well, and I enjoyed the video immensely.
I love the take of using alternate evolutions to the adventures partners. Also about the Impmon being Yamaki's partner their is a cool idea I saw that said that early on in tamers these fans though it would be revealed that Yamaki was Iee and Mako's father thus connecting him to them and maybe Impmon's violent nature and rude attitude colored his opinions of diigmon. That or he was suppose to be his original partner who just ignored him until he tired to show his power making Yamaki fearful of him and all Digimon kinda like they would do for Kurata in Savers with the Lyxnmon and other Digimon's attacks coloring his view of diigmon and pushing him down the path of wanting to destroy all diigmon one day.
All the yes to VictoryGreymon being the Mega form. I want to see it animated so much... I liked the different evolutions for them too, though maybe I would have at least kept the champions the same to hit that adventures reference little harder. changing the ultimates and megas make perfect sense though because ideally they would lack the crests that kinda fueled the ultimates in adventure, and then would biomerge for mega. I liked that almost all of them had different partners from how I lined them up in the comments of the 1984 video too. Except Daisy which was the obvious one and Johnny because... I mean how could you not have the American not reference Mimi. They both even wear cowboy hats! Kind of makes me want to go back to how I matched them up in the comments and make my own lines with how I lined them up.
Honestly I like the idea of using different canons to give new and different life to a digimon like diaboromon that has such a relation to the adventure canon that it feels kinda weighed down by it as if it can never be seen in a different light
It's been a very long time since I have seen Tamer's and honestly? I kind of forgot about the Monster Makers, despite them being interesting characters and the literal origin point of Digimon in that world. Yet this was also a very interesting video and tying them back into the OG 8 DigiDestined. Plus these were some very interesting choices for different lines. Wouldn't have expected anyone to acknowledge the badass that is VictoryGreymon, and you threw in an Olympus 12 member, which gives you automatic points from me. You know, a while back, I actually tried to come up with Digimon partners for all the adult characters in Tamers. Didn't get to all of them, but I got more than I thought I would. For Yamaki, I imagine his partner being Hagurumon, who would evolve into Mechanorimon, Megadramon and finally Machinedramon. My reasoning for this is that Yamaki's English VA is Steve Bloom, who at the time I first saw Tamers, I only knew as the voice of Roger Smith from Big O. How awesome would it be for Yamaki's partner to be a giant robot he could jump inside and pilot like a Megazord to fight the D-Reaper. I imagine Takato's mom and dad being partnered with Digitamamon and Vegiemon respectively. You know, because Adventure 1 kinda set those two up to be associated with the food service industry and I think it would be cute to see them help around the bakery. I imagine his Mom being partnered with Digitamamon since she always seemed like the more assertive one. I picture Rika's Mon with Icedevimon, but one with a completely different personality than the one that tried to kidnap Rika. Maybe something more like Ryuk from Death Note. I like the image of this sinister looking Digimon hovering close behind her as she walks home, being super sarcastic and snarky, but then is also obsessed with apples. I can picture Rika's grandmother with a Bakumon. IDK. It's based on a yokai and Rika's grandma always seemed to have deep ties to her Japanese heritage. It just made sense to me. And that's as far as I got. I remember getting stuck on Henry's dad and then deciding to do something else. What do you think?
Hmm... While I do like the diaboramon direction, I think going one of the royal knights, like Gatomon (or blackgatomon) to Knightmon then Lordknightmon (or Duftmon) works well since he's got such a connection with hypnos and protecting the network.
Honestly yamaki's biomerge would be really cool if it was Plutomon tieing in his earlier story arc of him trying to murder the digimon trying to come over to the human world.
Imagine the unbelievable hype if when our heroes are down you hear Henry's dad "get your hands off my son" and he just starts beating ass with his homies. Bruh yes
Absolutely loved Daisy and Shabumi's digimon lines. I think Daisy takes the gold because she was the focus, I guess, from the manga and she was linked to a Greymon. Also that Palmon evolution line looks cool. Awesome video and take care!
Loved this video, as always, especially the Daisy and Johnny lines. If i had to think of something for Yamaki, I'd give him Salamon, and not Gatomon directly. From Salamon, I have two possible lines. Either Guardromon, to tie with the technology that Yamaki uses, then Datamon, for the same reasons, and finally Darkdramon as a biomerge, because i really like it, it's canonnically a creation so all the tech line would fit. or, for a struggle then redemption line, it would be fangmon as a champion, still unstable, but slowly learning, then Cerberumon, because we never saw it in Tamers, and then, when finally both Tamaki and Salamon have completed their redemption and struggles, they biomerge into Anubismon. That's my take for him

Kind of a weird one, but Yamaki having Gatomon - Sanzomon - Shakamon could be interesting. It'd act as sort of a manifestion of Yamaki's idealogies as a bringer of order and, in a sense, enlightment through the erasure of Digimon.
I would've swapped Shibumi's and Yamaki's partners. The digidestined of Light was the key for the Adventure digidestined just like Shibumi's code was the key for the Monster Makers. And I would have Yamaki's Patamon digivolving into Devimon because A: Devimon was one of the first designs in Tamers84 and B: You could see it as Yamaki losing hope that the digital and real worlds couldn't be separated.
for the last one, does he need Gatomon exactly or could he have its prier from salmon? with salmon it opens up more opportunities and would still fit with the original digidestend. the line could be salmon, Mikemon, Beastmon, and bio merges into Barbamon.
Everygot gets a nice monster that can shoot lightning, or breath fire or shit. But one just gets a regular old lame fish that can do nothing but breathe underwater

Regarding Yamaki I would cheat a little bit and have him explicitly have a Salamon, which then evolves into either Mikemon or Blackgatomon as a Champion. From there playing a little fast and loose with evolutions it then Digivolves into Myotismon- a fun little tribute to the original Adventure storyline as Yamaki acts as a similar dark presence that looms over the Tamers throughout the early parts of that show- and then Mega Evolves/Biomerges into Daemon. Both because its the Demon Lord of Wrath (mirroring Yamaki's own initial hatred of all Digimon) and because it's association with Fire specifically connects neatly into Yamaki's tendency of fiddling with a lighter.
Gatomon with Betsumon as the ultimate. Everyone forgets this pervert exists... thankfully. But his stealthy/spy nature does fit. And for mega maybe HeavyLeomon? Seems natural for an agent to have a mecha digimon. Or Leopardmon to be the counter royal knight to Gallantmon.
Personally, instead of using Gatomon, why not use Salamon to Meicoomon to Meicrackmon and finally Rasielmon. It could be a good opportunity to showcase the good side of Meicoomon that isn’t infected
I never understood why people wanted Impmon to become Yamaki's partner. The whole appeal of Impmon's character and his evolution was the visual contrast between a literal deathmetal biker demon and the two little kids. The visuals went hand in hand with Impmon's story arc, because he was like a rebellious teen stuck with kids much younger than himself who ends up disliking them because "yikes, they dumb and childish, I'm cool, I'm edgy, I'm better off on my own" only to finally get over it and become the protective older brother he was always supposed to be, not only to them but to Culumon as well. If you pair up Impmon with Yamaki you'd get a whole different dynamic and story imho.
To me it would be the two walking a path to redemption together. Two flawed, imperfect people who have made grave mistakes relying on each other and propping each other up to do the right thing. Plus I just hate them kids.
Gatomon digivolves into kaiser leomon and biomerges into Reichmon/ Raihimon keeping those feline/ lion theme as well as according to the Digimon reference book description of Raihimon "There are none who have seen this hero, and due to the fact that it doesn't leave behind so much as evidence of the opponents it has confronted" This form kinda acts like a black ops Digimon taking out stronger wild ones while trying to keep everything quiet. For Yamaki I would have went with Salamon - Blackgatomon - Kaiserleomon - Ancientsphinxmon, n kept the whole dark mysterious theme he had going n keep Gatomon down a cat line for once lol.
I was thinking: What if D.A. 01 had DNA Digivolutions? Greymon and Shellmon Garurumon and Seadramon Birdramon and Meramon Kabuterimon and Andromon Togemon and Monzaemon Ikkakumon and Unimon Angemon and Devimon Gatomon and Ladydevimon
I really like these choices. Also, I would have taken MachGaoGamon's sunglasses matching Babel's as good enough reason. :) Oh, and Johnny should have his Palmon get strong enough to stay at Weedmon full time, just for the joke. It's great!
There is a story out there where yamaki gets Wizardmon as his partner to fit in almost like a way we get to see wizardmon again aglfter myotimon killed him
Given this video revolved around an aspect of Digimon Tamers, I find this comment will be appropriate here, the Chinese New Year will be February 1 this year. Seeing as the Devas originally showed up in Tamers, and didn't really make a new arrival until Ghost Game (if you discount some of the Devas showing up in evolution lines in games after Tamers aired), I think a video on some of the Devas, or series of videos on the Devas, starting at around Chinese New Year could thematically appropriate. We will be moving from the Year of the Ox into the Year of the Tiger, and the Tiger Deva was the first of the Devas that made an appearance. Granted, we didn't get all 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac during Tamers, and only one of the Devas showed up in Ghost Game a few weeks ago with no other Devas appearing being mentioned (as far as we know) in Ghost Game since. Also, there is a story about the why the Chinese Zodiac the animals and order it does, and it involves a race (if you are familiar with the series Fruits Basket, then you know the race is replaced with the order of arrival for a Feast/Party). But regardless of which version of the story you are familiar with, there is one common denominator, the Rat screws over the Cat. You see, in the story, the Rat is the one who tells the Cat when the event will be, in both the classic Chinese tale and Fruits Basket version, but tells the Cat it's the day after the actual event, so the cat misses out and dreams of what it will be like when it does participate in the event, some renditions of the classical Chinese version have the cat actually show up to the race but he's still late then get swept down a river because of the actions of the Rat and not able to finish the race until well after the event has been declared to have ended. Regardless of which version of the story you go with, the Rat is a jerk/a**hole of the highest order, which probably explains why the Rat deva was the most malicious of the devas, at least that's how it seemed to me.
Karn, hear me out, Yamaki should have a male Salamon, whose predominant form is Mikemon (alternative champion). And I could see something like skullsatamon and diaboromon work for the respective ultimate and mega.
I think Yamaki ends up at the brunt of most of the Lovecraft references that Tamers loves, so he could certainly partner with Dagomon. I mean, the holy ring carries over from Gatomon so. Kinda works? I'm honestly not sure about the mega, just because I struggle to see Diaboromon in a good light. Regalecusmon maybe? Freaky face but certainly easier to sympathize with
Heyyyyy Karn!! For Yamaki I would have did Gatomon to Baalmon to Neo Vemdemon(if you're going to keep the mega a virus) that seems like the best fit. Or you could do Gatomon to Duramon to JESmon Gatomon to Duramon to Bryweludramon It's a lot of lines I would do with Gatomon for Yamaki
Since Gatomon is a Champion/Adult, you could in theory start with Salamon. Maybe then swap the Gatomon for say Wizardmon then Wisemon and the Biomerge could perhaps produce Craniumon. Not like we haven’t seen a Royal Knight produced that way lol
For Yamaki's line I would say it should be Black Gatomon, not because evil but just to reflect his more ruthless nature. I'd then have it digivolve to KaiserLeomon then finally Raihimon as a biomerge mega. This is kinda a mirror of the Angewomon line as they are mainly spirits of darkness, but also keeps the cat like look of gatomon intact.
Great video! I suspected this was coming after your video on the prequel. Another interesting idea would be to have all Ancient partners - since they created Digimon, they'd have the earliest "versions" of them for partners, which are now considered Ancient. You'd have to design some new Ancients and fudge the evolution lines a bit but I think it would be a cool nod to the digital world growing and adapting over time after being created by the Wild Ones.
Yamaki and Mihiramon? Like tie them in by making his Gatomon partner the Deva that partially broke him mentally by taking over his Juggernaut program, injured and devolved and somehow forming an alliance with him. Then maybe make them biomerge into Baihumon so Yamaki ends his journey as a pillar of the Digital World he was so wary of (not sure on this last part)
Plotmon to BlackGatomon so the rest of the line makes more sense as a virus line. Adventure Gatomon was that as her default because she digivolved to it naturally, without her partner and digivice.
Lol, I recorded a Video today where I did the exact same Digivolution line of Pidmon, HolyAngemon from V-Tamer and Dominimon, but ClearAgumon as a Rookie. The Video will be about alternate Partners for the digidestined, but with Digimon that did exist between 1997 and 2000.
Now we’re talking! I’ve thought about this subject exactly one time but it was genuinely a concept I was hoping to see explored! Also! Get better soon ya got damned Welshman! Now to address the mons. I’ll only talk about the Megas. Victory Greymon is always nice to see, so good choice there no matter what! Neptunemon for dolphin seems too perfect. Maybe because I see them having something of a resemblance in the face. Tyrantkabuterimon works great, especially when our next to Megagargomon. Both are sort of human but more monsterous, so I’m here for it. Ravemon works due to the crows, but eh, no strong feelings on him honestly. Miragegaogamon falls into a similar roll there, though the digital hazard is nice. Bloom lord mon lacks the vibe I think his partner has, but still noice. Dominimon definitely has the energy I’d expect for shibumi. Diaboromon and yamaki having matching hair at least is nice, so I’m here for it. Though you could also go full demonic and use… as much as I hate it’s design…. Beelzemon fusion…
I was thinking more of MachGaogamon to Z'd Garurumon to go with the Victory Greymon or Gankoomon if you want to keep the whole humanoid digimon for the bio-merging evolution Gatomon to Mistymon to Craniummon. This fits the theme of Yamaki and Hypnos being the shield that safe guards the human world from the dangers the digimon process.
Yamaki could have had something like a pure salamon falling into darkness to black gatomon to Lady devimon and then ultimately finding "some" Balance and good like Yamaki did and its mega becomes mastemon which also works as a biomerge
I am way late to the party, but I think Yamaki would do Salamon to Blackgatomon to Blackweregaurumon and finally Anubismon. I feel that Salamon would be Yamaki at the start of his journey where he was still bright eyed and hopeful and the blackgatomon and blackweregarurumon lines would be where we actually meet him. He's edgy and a loner. Anubismon would be a perfect mega due to the similarities, Yamki watching over the real world and judging wild ones and Anubismon watching over the dark area and judging digimon.
While I do think Yamaki deserves a digimon partner, I think we all can agree that the one who should be partnered with Gatomon should definitely be Nami Asaji, Takato's, Jeri's, Kazu's and Kenta's teacher and I'm not just saying that because her voice actress (in the dub) was also the one who played Kari who became a teacher at the end of 02 and looks like she's an older Kari in the first place XD
Plus at the end of digimon 02 the bad guy sure was a adult but he had a digimon partner waiting for him but sadly he went out like a light but hey at least he can be their spiritually with the digimon having fun with his old friend
For Yamaki I would give him Salamon instead of Gatomon, then I would cheat a bit by making him digivolve into Wizardmon (patamon can digivolve into Wizardmon but not Salamon right now). Then I would have him digivolve into Baalmon and finally make him Biomerge into Beezelmon. Another possible digivolution line I was thinking of, but isnt as well thought out is Salamon into Minotaurmon into Etemon (Dark network and the sunglasses works too well). I would like to give him a biomerge that was kinda a "redeemed" version that works with the line but nothing fits terribly well so I'm going with Bancho Leomon.
for Yamaki I thin he should have twin gatomon (black and white) they should digivolve to angewoman and ladydevimon respectively and then jogress to mastemon. this would represent Yamaki's dual nature as both villain and ally to the tamers.
Funnily enough, Garudamon is named after Garuda, a giant divine bird in Hindu mythology. :) Personally, for Yamaki, since he's got that bad-boy vibe, maybe start with Salamon and have it become a Blackgatomon, to Ladydevimon to Beelstarmon to parallel Impmon?
for babel id go gabumon-frigimon-pandamon-mercurymon. the thought behind that line is a refrence to frigimon raising a gabumon in i think frontier, pandamon who is a hero who appear like the monster makers in tamers, and mercurymon cause he's the only mega outside belphemon that looks like it could be a biomerge and why not give the olympus 12 some love.
for yamaki i'd go plotmon to keep with the gatomon line but change it to mikemon the forgotten gatomon variant they should have been used in tri. following it with bastemon to keep with the cat theme with their biomerge being babamon. with how serious yamaki is i think it would be funny is his biomerge mega was an old lady that hit like a truck.

So for instance maybe Plotmon could become Mikemon or Meicoomon. Then the final forms could be Meicrackmon and Raguelmon. I like the line since its got that "chaotic entity in the digital world" vibe 👀
Kind of wondering why you didn't take yamaki's partner to be a salamon with a BlackGatomon evolution. Still parallels the original 8 on technicality, but the BlackGatomon lines are much easier to work with for yamaki's character.

Id also love to see yamaki with a commandramon. Basically he would have the squirtle squad of agumon. Matching how yamaki really only took his glasses of when he was being genuine
I wish there was someway to evolve gatomon to knightmon or something like that I feel like leopardmon would be a great choice as a bio merge Mega has some feline and eliquate themes but Also meets the darker more mysterious personality of Yamaki
