We were on the first day of a 15 day Viking cruise when one of us tested positive. Viking rushed us off the ship and into an isolation hotel. 7 days later, we had two positive tests. We never had significant symptoms, but spent a miserable 13 days in the hotel before we could come home. At least the US testing requirement was no longer in effect or we would have been there longer. We continued to test positive for 15 and 17 days according to the antigen home test kits but never had symptoms. We had travel insurance through Viking's provider- TripMate- so all should be well, right? Wrong. 7 months after filing the claim, we are still out $6000 of quarrantine expenses waiting for TripMate to respond. I'm probably going to abandon Viking after this experience, for a variety of reasons.
Hi Bill, Thank you for sharing your experience. It is definitely an ordeal and I can relate to your disappointment and frustration. For insurance, I took insurance with a third party - not the cruise line provider - and it took a total of 3 months for my claim to be resolved. I do hope you are able to get your reimbursement, so that you can put this behind you.
