Probably THE most iconic song in all of the gay nightclubs everywhere. It's also extremely popular for male bulesque shows and male stripper events. Martha Wash is a legend.
Poor Jay seems like he got lost and ended up in a "Ladies' Club" and he's just gobsmacked while Amber is transforming into queen of the dance floor! You two are the absolute best! 😆💞
They started out as "Two Tons of Fun" then changed their name to The Weather Girls...this song was actually written by Paul Shaffer who used to be the Band Leader on the David Letterman Show. Martha Wash was one of the 2 ladies singing. She went on to have a great solo career as she also sang lead vocals in a group called Black Box ..would love to hear you react to Black Box. She also sang vocals in C&C Music Factory....great songs too.
I really have to start seeing what comments have already been made before I start commenting. In my overlong comment I also mentioned Black Box and C&C Music Factory. 😅
As a gay guy from the 80's I had the pleasure of seeing them in person multiple times. They were the best and sounded just as good live, if not better, as they did on the record. Loved them and their early support for the gay community!
AMBER!!!! This has to be the BEST reaction I ever seen coming from you. Been watching you guys about the time Rob first came on, and in all those times, you put the BIGGEST smile on me and my wife faces. LOVE you guys.
ROTFLMAO - Amber I absolutely ADORE you! And have been waiting patiently for this one for sooooooo long. Girl - you made it WORTH the wait. After a looooong day at work - you've completely made my night with this. Jordan - thanks for going with the flow ;). Love you both bunches :)
Huge club hit loved Amber's reaction and Rob's shock. Unfortunately one of the ladies died but their daughters took over the mantel. They were brilliant talented singers obviously brought up in the gospel church with voices like that. They were the support singers of a singer called Sylvester who died young of Aids. He was a power house of a singer check some of his hits, huge in the clubs in the 80s.
This has got to be the best music video reaction ever done!!!😂 I am laughing so hard that I had to pause the video because I can't see through the tears! The two of you have definitely accomplished the biggest goal of every day which is to not only make me smile, but to make me laugh until I can't see through the tears. And I can't tell you how valuable that is to me right now while I'm trying to take a brief vacation from the horrors and helplessness of the last 5 months. The two of you are always talking about how much you have gained from the friendships on this channel but you have done the same in equal share to the people who watch your videos every day and gets a smile and laugh and call you out when you're wrong and not only expand your world but the world of your children and the kids in your community.❤
Oh my GOODNESS!!!! This reaction is so great I'm commenting twice! This is by far the BEST EVER REACTION ON RU-vid!! The most fun, animated, happiest!!! And Jay-Z I do believe you're blushing as well!!🤣 I've never done this before- but I'm gonna have to rewatch this reaction just cuza you guys!!😄👍❣️ ~ I 💟 The 80's! ~
Martha Wash and Izora Armstead were the original Two Tons of Fun, the backup singers for Sylvester. They went on to record as The Weather Girls. Martha Wash continues to perform as the lead vocalist for groups like C&C Music Factory, Black Box (Everybody, Everybody), and others. She is AMAZING as a soloist!
Amber's reaction was just like the reactions in the dance club I used to go to. This song would be played and all the people would dance with such happiness
Was great when I heard it at Studio 54 in the 80s when I was at university and everyone was on the dance floor and is great, today, as you still want to get out there and dance.....!
"God bless Mother Nature/She's a single woman, too" is a brilliant line. I just looked up the song and was surprised to see it was written by two men and one of them is Paul Shaffer, the longtime band leader for David Letterman's TV talk show...!? Even better, they wrote the song for Donna Summer, but she converted to a born-again Christian and rejected it on the grounds it is "blasphemous." Hahaha.
I understand that Cher and Barbra Streisand were also offered it and turned it down. And actually initially, The weather girl said no too back when they were known as two tons of fun, The success of the song most partly I believe why they changed their name to the weather girls
😂 I knew about Paul Shaffer, but OMG, the Donna Summer thing is making laugh. So... I guess the possibility of an I Feel Love/Hot Stuff/Love To Love Ya Baby medley is out of the question now. 😂
The Weather Girls were at one time called 2 Tons of Fun when they were the backing vocals for the legendary Sylvester!!! Martha Wash's vocals were also used by C&C Music Factory, they used her vocals but replaced her image with a slender female 😢......
I've watched a lot of your video reactions and this has got to be the best one I've seen, mostly because of Amber's reaction...and chair dancing...then to Jay's reaction to Amber! Priceless
OMG! I live in a 55+ and I'm a member of the theater group. Myself and 2 other women are performing this song at our next talent night. I CANT WAIT! IM SO EXCITED!
The Weather Girls started out as back-up singers for Sylvester and were known as Two Tons of Fun. After Raining Men, they went their separate ways and Martha Wash went on to be the lead female singer for the 90's Dance groups Black Box and C + C Music Factory - though for both groups she had to sue to get recognition as they cast a slender hottie for the videos. Love me some Martha Wash!!!
Amber is ROCKIN' this one! This is the most fun I've ever seen her have. Thanks for such an energetic and appreciative reaction. Jay is enjoying it, too!
Back in the eighties we had great music and song lyrics were so fun and clean no nasty words and the videos were awesome don't you want to get up and dance to this music she's loves 🎶 the music and the video you rock girl you would have loved being a teenager Back in the eighties you can really enjoy the music 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
First of all...........I love you two. You have appreciation for all genres of music, dance and comedy. Let me give everyone a history lesson on this song and its artists. 1) Two Tons of Fun (the name of the group who recorded and starred in the video) were the background singers for the Disco King/Queen Sylvester. Their names are Martha Wash and Izora Rhodes. Sylvester went through exhausting tryouts for his background singers and he decided on, in his words, "Two women who can SANG!" Martha and Izora enjoyed this accolade and served as backups wherever Sylester performed. Later in the early day of HIV/AIDS, they pushed his wheelchair as they participated in the San Francsico's AIDS Walk. 2) the song "It's Raining Men" was inspired by a gay song writer in Los Angeles, Paul Jarbara. Paul was at a gay after hours club that was completely packed. It was so full that condensation was forming on the ceiling and dropping down like rain on those on the dance floor. A fellow dance floor member said to him, "It's raining." Paul said, "I wish it was raining men."....and he went home and wrote the song. Unfortunately, Izora Rhodes passed away many year ago, but Marsha Wash is still alive and singing dance music She was featured on many of Black Box's recordings.
I've watched this reaction a dozen times... and shared with it my wife and a few others..... such unadulterated joy in your response..... we danced like crazy to this one back in the day.... and even every once in a while now..
This song was one used in the first Magic Mike movie in the club! One of the women here, Martha Wash, has sang on some popular songs. C+C Music Factory’s “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) (they replaced her with someone skinny in the video). Another one she was on was one I know you reacted to; Marky Mark’s “Good Vibrations” and she was in that video! She has one of those voices that I just know it’s her when I hear i!
*fyi... THAT wasnt Martha with Marky Mark & TFB... it was the sublime Loleatta Holloway (RIP), who sang the 'original' that Marky/Donnie sampled called "Love Sensation". Search for it... youll hear that voice & some lines that MM&TFB wanted to use in her vocals. Loleatta was FIRE... love sensation is a huge disco classic.* *so it wasnt martha. easily COULD have been though. both of those women could **_SANG!!_*
As a man I'd play this on the jute box in the 80's because the women loved it like you girl Amber. Watching the guys git upset and the ladies take over was an amazing and FUN sensation to behold. Oh... YES I loved this song. You sat still you had no fun in ya.
Amber, if you're a fan of the show 'Friends' that's you probably heard this song when Chandler visits his father in Vegas and invites him to his wedding and his father performs this song on stage
I love both of you and your reactions, but Amber - I ADORE your reaction to this song. I grew up with this song and have always thought it was awesome. I have had it on my playlist for 2 decades!!
This video reminded me of one i'd like to recommend. Which I think Amber might appreciate (horns). Its an 80's song by Merry Clayton called Yes. It was in the movie Dirty Dancing. The official music video is fun and upbeat. I think you might like it. Merry Clayton has such a great energy about her in this. So happy.
Back in my 'Disco Days' this song (many times used on Chippendales/ Ladies Nite) would get ALL of us ladies on the dance floor !!! As previously mentioned, the song "Gonna Make You Sweat -- Everybody Dance Now" used Martha Wash's powerful vocals; that song also would pack the lit-dance floor in a heartbeat [ Sometimes I miss those days -- Sigh !!! ]
Geri Halliwell did a cover of this song and released it as a single. That version is used in "Bridget Jones's Diary. Perhaps that's where Amber heard it. 🙂
OK, The Weather Girls, I can’t remember the other ladies name Dash one in the green coat, but the other lady is Martha wash. She was the actual vocalist on cc music factory‘s song everybody dance now. She had to sue the label because they used to model in the actual video. The other lady, passed away several years ago. It was produced by the disco artist Sylvester. These ladies could sing their blank faces off. I would say Jennifer Hudson and Whitney Houston were the only other focus I could even touched them.
Hello my friends. You react to this song and before to Barbara Streisand/Donna Summer No more tears (enough is enough). Both songs are written by Paul Jabara. Maybe you can do a little Paul Jabara Special....? He was one of the best writers in this time.
The best part of this whole reaction is watching Amber's reaction! She's feeling it! You made me appreciate this tune all over again Amber, watching you groove to the music! God bless Mother Nature! 😂😂❤❤❤
Amber, would LOVE to see you in a club if this song started playing.... you would OWN the dance floor! Your reaction when the chorus first started.... PERFECT!
100% agree in the clubs when this came on the women took over the dance floor ... look out men the cougars were out there. Look up cougars didn't just mean an animal
There is no voice quite like Martha Wash. You've heard her on C+C Music Factory, you've heard her on Black Box. She's had to fight just to get credited for her own vocals because she's not 36-24-36.
This is such a fun song & Ambers reaction was infectious!! I must have been about 10 years old when this came out and me and my little girlfriends used to dance & sing this at the top of our lungs, looking back my poor mom 🤣🤣
Fun fact: The songwriters Paul Jabara and Paul Shaffer originally wrote this for Donna Summer, but she turned it down. Then they offered it to Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand and Cher, who all turned it down. I'm glad they did because The Weather Girls OWN this song!
Martha Wash the lead vocalist is a powerhouse! She did work with C+C Music Factory, Black Box. Unfortunately she wasn't in those videos because of her size and there were "smaller" used to lip sync her part. She can SANG!
I'm in Australia and remember hearing this when the song came out .Paul S wrote it because they always got replaced in other bands Videos by thinner females.I was in my 20s and I didn't really care how they looked.
