I'm starting to think Stanford Cal Washington State and Oregon State will end up in the ACC West and then there will be Notre Dame and what's left in the ACC East. After what teams go to the SEC and Big ten then the Big 12 will grab four maybe 6 teams. Then what's left will be the ACC.
Stanford and Cal feel that they're better than the Beavers and Wazzu. They were willing to put on their kneepads of any of the Power 4 conferences for some semblance of security
Ohio State fan in Ohio here. the big 10 would absolutely love to get a foothold in florida, with either fsu, miami, or both. they'd also love to add unc, and maybe ga tech and uva too. the collapse of the acc and the addition of some of the marquee programs to the big 10 would also force notre dame's hand. the big 10 is in a contest for supremacy with the sec, and those additions would definitely give the big 10 a huge boost in that battle. the big 10 is already a national conference, stretching from LA to NYC, with many massive markets in between, whereas the sec is more of a regional conference. the sec stretches from florida to texas, while the big 10 literally spans coast to coast. now imagine adding fsu/miami/both to the mix. not only would the big 10 stretch from LA to NYC, they'd also stretch from seattle to miami/tallahassee. the already massive media rights deals would be even more massive. the big 10 would be a money making machine. in the long run, that's going to win the war for the big 10. all of that being said, i think there is a critical mass for conference size. how big can they get, before they start to crumble under their own weight? speaking personally, on my bucket list is to see the Buckeyes play in every big 10 stadium. i've been to 8, with number 9 coming up this year. there was a time not so long ago, when 9 big 10 stadiums meant i'd almost be done, but now it's only halfway. add 4 more schools, and i might not be able to get to all of them. that 9th stadium is autzen, to see the Buckeyes play the ducks. that is surreal to think of oregon as a big 10 conference game. expanded conferences make for great conference matchups, like Ohio State - oregon, but i think we'll start to miss those traditional matchups, or at least i will. people outside of traditional big 10 territory might not think much of an Ohio State vs illinois, or iowa, or minnesota, or wisconsin, but i love those games. classic, hard-nosed big 10 football at its finest, it's faaannnttastic! with expanded conferences, those games will become fewer and fewer. as it is, Ohio State only has 6 games on their schedule with traditional teams who were big 10 members when i was in high school. as expansion continues, that will inevitably become less. i hope the expansion craze ends soon, before it hits critical mass.
Can't take FSU without Miami coming along too. That is one of the best rivalries ever. Most of the games are won by 3 points or less. I have respect for the B1G and can't stand the SEC and their fans.
Why would you just want one Florida school? The B10 got USC and UCLA for the state of California! Florida is closer to the main B10 footprint, 3rd largest state, on EST and the 3rd largest state. Miami and FSU may not have the Rose connection as USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington historical! However, Miami and FSU has big game and high stake game history over the last 38 years with Nebraska, Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State. I'm a Miami fan, who has lived in Clearwater/Tampa bay for 20 plus years. I here to tell you, the state Florida is at 23 million and growing daily. It also is full of MidWest and East coast transplants who are B10 fans and alums! Also, if you have Miami and FSU in the B10, it can only help recruiting for the schools not named Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. The kids from here would know, they would play Miami and FSU at home and back home in Florida 2 to 4 times in their college career!
You can go back further than that with the flip flop artist known as Finebaum. When FSU was excluded from CFP he was calling them cry babies & that QB injury would not be at the level of a SEC team invite.
It would be watched by a larger audience. There was one year that the game was only televised by Comcast locally. It would have helped in recruiting and on Clemson getting a better landing spot.
@@davidframe1613 Big 10 isn't the ACC and let ND get full share if not playing in conference. ND will either have to jump ship or sink and die with the ACC.
Good stuff. But as of now, here's what we do know. Clemson and FSU are suing the ACC. So, it's obvious on it's face that they are leaving. There is one other school that has been making noise about the ACC. That's North Carolina. Members of their board stated that they were unhappy with the conference, and people were well aware that they were having an internal battle, but all of this spilled out with letters and statements from their board of governors. Everyone else has been strangely quiet which only means that they haven't made statements to the media. But look, there are some big brands in the ACC. None of these schools will want to remain in a situation where they are diminished and less competitive. So, once FSU and Clemson leave, most likely the next school to depart would probably be UNC. In what order they will follow remains to be seen. It seems to me that this is very reminiscent of what happened when USC and UCLA moved to the Big Ten. Then Oregon and Washington followed. To me it just seems that all the big brands in the ACC will want out. The only question that remains is whether or not they will have a home elsewhere. Some will. Clemson, FSU and UNC will be in the SEC and Big Ten. It also seems to me that the biggest winner in this whole fiasco will be the Big XII. They will jump in and take five or six of the schools in the ACC. Probably Louisville, Pitt, NC State, Miami and Va Tech to name a few. So they'll have a nice enclave on the east coast to go along with West Virginia. After the smoke clears the ACC will become the new American Athletic conference. Their situation is vastly different from the PAC XII. They won't go away because there just won't be space for them in the SEC and B10. The ACC will be forced to raid the American and the Sunbelt. I'd bet anything that the new look ACC will include the big schools that are in the American. The ACC just took SMU. So look for South Florida, Memphis, East Carolina and Charlotte in the ACC. Maybe a Sunbelt school like App State. They are in the neighborhood. Just add 15,000 seats to their stadium and there ya go. Another X factor in all this is Notre Dame. If all this comes to pass, they will have to let bygones be bygones and join the Big Ten. And for Notre Dame this isn't about football. Their place in the football landscape is well established. But all their remaining sports are in the ACC. They certainly wouldn't stay in a conference with Memphis, ECU and South Florida. That's absurd, and I very much doubt that the Big Ten would allow them to have the same sweetheart deal that the ACC has given them. But they might. Who knows.
If you look at all the other conference realignment acquisitions. Sec= Oklahoma/Texas = each other's biggest rival. BIG10= USC/UCLA , UW/OREGON = EACH other's biggest rival. I think Miami is a take, especially after a winning season, at the very least for control. Or they go big10 with ND..IMO
Like you, i thought June 30 date was a viable move. However, the February of 2025 is really the controlling date. June 30 was about a majority vote and the other schools either didn't have the balls or don't want their gravy train to end. Bottom line, we are leaving, and come February, espn will NOT resign thru 2036 without us and Clemson in the mix.
@jamesb0255 I think that's a given. It's an important date, but I think February 2025 and the lawsuit set our course for the future. The lawsuit pretty much made the August date obvious. If espn declines to renew at the current amount, then the acc is toast.
@@caballotustenagge9006 Good luck finding a new home if you leave. There is no chance that you will get an invite for a new conference as cord cutting is a real issue, and streaming service is not there with the numbers. Televised sports hit the bubble a few years ago. There is not the money in the future for the P2 to expand with.
Keep July 12th in mind. I've heard that date from a few people connected with Clemson. Not sure that's THE day in July referenced to, but it's floating around here in Upstate SC.
Tell me what went on behind closed doors when they voted for the ACC to sue FSU to prevent them from leaving the conference. That is a crystal clear statement that they want to prevent any school from leaving. Now people are talking about where they might end up? GTFOH
@505premoto. All of that stuff can be dropped in a blink of an eye. When FSU/Clemson win in court here soon, ESPN is gonna pull the plug on that ACC contract. Especially if it's true they have an option to do so for 2027... Miami might be a private school but if they feel a well placed leak of info here or there is to their benefit, you better believe a little birdy will chirp.
So Pate's breaking news is some vague "prediction" with no specifics? I need to get into this prediction game. Therefore, I predict there will be a significant world event in July. I cannot give details at this time, only that it will be big news affecting at least one country in the world. Rest assured, I will be back to take full credit once the event happens, and I will expect all of you to awe at my prognostication skills.
Thank you! I've never watched this guy's channel before but the fact that he believes this is hilarious. These are flat earth theories but for football. There's no way Josh Pate, of all people, would have extra insider knowledge nobody else does.
While I agree that what he said was very vague, I will say that Josh Pate isn't one to say something for clout like 99/100 of CFB RU-vid media heads. I don't think he really knows who, what, and how, but was leaked a when. Josh is actually credible unlike the vast majority.
Many don't realize that Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M initially approached the B1G as part of a package of five Big 12 schools to see if the Big Ten was interested. The response was positive, but only Nebraska was chosen for an individual agreement-source: Omaha World-Herald.
Well clemson has asked for a summery judgment on the gor to be held on july 12, but the acc has objected to it and asked for a continuance until after their motion to dismiss which is also July 12th. Who knows what judge will do.
NCAA Finances by school published in USA Today on March 14th Revenues #14 Virginia $161.9M #15 Fl Staate $161.1M #17 Clemson $158.3M #32 No Carolina $122.6M July, yes
Hell yeah! I will take that all day long. Although personally I think it should just be Clemson and FSU. The two teams that are actually relevant in football.
@@boweevil8390Florida State likely burned too many bridges with the way they handled their ACC exit, so it is unlikely the SEC will take them. It's likely B1G or bust for FSU.
I'm thinking the SEC will take FSU Clemson Kansas and West Virginia. These school's are more aligned with the other SEC schools and I'm also thinking Notre Dame and Miami goes to the Big ten. Then the Big 12 and ACC could become one East Coast West Coast Big 12 conference under the Big 12 contract. I could be wrong but the SEC is the south and I don't think they want a lot of schools outside their political viewpoint. Well let's say they have not stepped outside of it yet. Adding a UNC or Virginia could be a shock to the SEC and both are not football schools. Never have been never will be.
I see Clemson as a more likely possibility than FSU. If SEC goes with 2 schools, it will likely be one of 2 NC schools (either UNC or NCSt) and either Clemson or UVA/VaTech. Culturally, VaTech makes more sense than UVA. If they go 4 schools, I could see both UNC and NCSt then 2 of Clemson, VaTech, UVA (least likely of these). Agreed, UVA will never be a football school; but hey, can use bottom feeders too, lol.
Watch for the NCAA Settlement Judge to certify the Settlement or to declare against some of it and that it must be changed before it can be certified. The new lawsuit that was just filed adds more pressure to the situation.
FSU fans, I know FSU isn't going to the Big 12. But don't be so negative about the possibility being out there. Let your school use everything it can to negotiate. I think it's all a part of FSU's leverage.
Maryland is now really shining in my mind as very smart to leave the ACC instead of being forced into signing that ridiculous GOA. I wish FSU had been as smart and also rejected those handcuffs.
a) MARYLAND was a financial dumpster fire. It had no choice but to leave once the B1G invite came. b) If MARYLAND had not left, there likely wouldn't be a GOR, at least not one as long. c) To where would FSU go if it refused to sign the GOR at that time?
As a UGA/SEC alum, if we need to go to 20 I would like to add Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, Clemson and NC State. We in the SEC like the land-grant, ag-centric, engineering schools. It’s part of our culture.
Pate implied that the announcement would be made during either B1G or SEC media days occur. Didn't say it, but I think he said enough that he wants us to think he said it.
Pate is not even a realignment expert. He does not know anything how all of this works. All of this should have happened 20 + years ago before all the cord cutting and all that. It is too late for the P2 to even add more schools.
He's repeating what they've been talking about on spearatics channel. When SMU, Cal, and Stanford join the ACC that's when we'll break free. That's the official date.
I think Clemson and FSU announce before the August deadline (July is very likely.) I think Finebaum obviously has sources throughout the SEC, he's not their official mouthpiece with a dedicated show on the SEC Network with zero sources. I'm not his biggest fan, but I believe that he forms his opinion based off of the things he hears. That said, I think his constant flip-flopping is deliberate. I think pushing the narrative of Clemson/FSU to the SEC was meant to see if there was any reaction from B1G sources. Likewise, I think his saying that Clemson/FSU doesn't fit into the B1G or that the B1G won't want either school because of their academics (AAU status) is probably meant to discourage the school and make them believe that they only have one real option. A significant part of Seminole Nation wants to be in the B1G and wants nothing to do with ESPN, but I still believe at the end of the day, the SEC wants Florida State and Clemson. I also believe that they want to get into North Carolina and Virginia and will likely end up with Clemson, FSU, UNC, and Virginia to get to 20. It makes too much sense from every standpoint for Clemson/FSU to be in the SEC. With the additions of Oklahoma and Texas, and the possible additions of the aforementioned schools, the SEC will get a larger payout than the B1G in the next round of tv deals. Looking at the B1G as paying more (right now) is short sighted. Not only that, but the B1G has about five decent matchups for FSU (Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Oregon, USC) whereas the SEC has like 8 (UGA, Bama, Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Florida.) The B1G has a LOT of low end matchups, Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, Maryland, Minnesota, Northwestern, Rutgers whereas the SEC honestly has one, Vanderbilt. Even when you're playing Vanderbilt, at least you get to visit Nashville. Not to mention, FSU has a LOT more sports than football that has to travel. It would be a lot easier, cheaper, and more competitive with rivalries across the southeast than sending athletes, alumni, boosters, and fans across the country. FSU made the mistake of turning down the SEC in 1990 for academics and money and it was a huge mistake. I hope that they don't do it again.
@@basedjiren3889 the deadline for an ACC school to announce their departure from the conference for the 2025 season is August 15th. The hypothetical deadline for schools in the ACC to announce their departure to trigger ESPN's composition clause was June 30th, because the ACC would have been below the threshold of schools required for the league to have in their membership. The deadline for THAT was June 30th because SMU joined on July 1st. I'm sure in your haste to attempt to make someone look stupid, you overlooked those facts. 😂
@@CFBAddiction I have a theory that they want to get Florida State. Big Ten setup business in SEC territory. Fox can take another school from ESPN like they did with four PAC 12 schools . I could be wrong on this one.
@xgthemerciless4527 where else are they going to go? They aren't supported at home, they haven't had a great run since the 90's. They are the 4th brand in the ACC behind UNC,FSU and Clemson. If the B1G doesn't take them you better hope the Big 12 does. Because no way in hell does the SEC takes Miami
Why would the B1G want Virginia? If this last year taught us anything, the B1G wants the biggest TV draw, and Virginia sits behind both Stanford and Cal in tv rankings. Point is, if the B1G passed up Stanford and Cal, I don’t see any reason why they would want UV. I’m not crapping on UV, I’m just stating the obvious. FSU, Clemson, and then Miami would be the biggest draws out of the ACC.
@@jimedick9496 it would mainly be none football reasons. Always remember football is the MAIN reason not the ONLY reason. What's really going on is that Pate is smart enough to know that the deadline to get out of the ACC and play either independently or in another conference is Aug.15. So Pate and several other insiders, podcasters, journalists are starting to come out with supposed " insider info" that's letting them know that some kind of news about conference realignment is going to happen in July. @@EuroNole Remembers when it comes to realignment school president or chancellor usually makes the decision not the AD. How do we know there isn’t back channels discussion. There was rumors that donors from several big 12 schools were talking to Louisville donors.
The ACC is being underpaid by ESPN now, which is why the top schools are trying to leave. The long-term deal that the ACC signed has locked it in at 2017 rates which didn't foresee the explosion in the TV media deal markets. ESPN is not reducing or killing the ACC deal with or without FSU or Clemson, because it's still a profitable deal for ESPN and gets more profitable every year for ESPN. I believe that ESPN will soon be willing to increase the ACC payout if FSU and Clemson agree to stay just to stabilize its deal. IF FSU and Clemson decide not to stay the ESPN will use that to leave the payout at the current level. either way ESPN isn't killing a profitable deal for no reason.
So funny how one tries to break something ahead of someone else. It's pretty simple fsu n clemson are not going anywhere until the lawsuit is figured out
The problem is that reports from both Big 10 and SEC are that schools in those conferences could be booted or there would be less money as the next contract gets renewed, The cord cutting is going faster, and online streaming is not making a profit. So, the issue is if FSU and Clemson do leave? What happens when there are no invites? What if number of schools in the Big 12, Big 10 and SEC voted no to add them? Those two schools would be taken a risk with no home and no tv dollars.

It really seems to me that when we talk about football Virginia keeps coming up, but do people really mean Virginia Tech? If it's about basketball then Virginia for sure.
Pate would have been better off to ssay nothing about FSU's efforts to leave the ACC since he never talks about our team, the players we have for 2024 and why FSU might be better this year than last. What mkae this even more aggravating is how he pumops up Miami as if they are now portal savants after landing Cam Ward and a bunch of other fill-in-the-blank players who haven't done much.
The fact that Miami is not a public university doesn't make any difference with respect to negotiations. Nobody knows what FSU is negotiating either. Also, Miami is poverty.
You’ve not watched nor read any of the decision’s of Circuit Judge Cooper? Seldom has he mentioned Florida State University that the University of Miami was also included in the same breath. The ACC is doing business in the State of Florida . College Football is a multi-million $ business in Florida & is subject to Florida Law & he applied North Carolina Law acknowledging Florida’s Jurisdiction in this matter. Unless the ACC wants all their (secrets) open for the world to see. The need to settle quickly because of the Florida Sunshine Law will bring everything to light. Judge Cooper started the 120 days of mediation long ago & inserted a mediator almost immediately. FSU wants a settlement $$ figure with reason. So, Miami would be able to know how to exit as well.
Florida State is so full of themselves, when no body want them in their conference. Miami pouncing FSU and going deep into the playoffs will show the different directions two teams are heading.
