We have two in England, so we very, very rarely see other basenjis, funny to see that most are pretty much identical personality wise🐕

Our Basenji would go crazy any time you even approached his leash. He LOVED going for walks and would stop anything at any time to go on one.

The only thing that will snap my Sherlock out of cat mode is pancakes. Lol

This was interesting to watch, believe it or not. I have a pet bird and I’m debating on whether to get a small dog. I love listening to the basenji yodel but I realize that there’s a lot more to taking care of a dog than listening to the sound it makes. Watching this video made me realize that when you have a dog, it’s like taking care of a child and it requires time, patience, attention, and effort. A dog is not merely something to cuddle; it’s a living being that requires care. Thanks again for this video and reminding me of these important factors. Zulu is a beautiful and loving Basenji and I wish you many happy years with her.

That look is all too familiar from my boy. I say the same thing and he gives me the, "gimme 5 more minutes look." What you said about being aware of their needs is so true and what makes them so difficult, but so loving at the same time!

Our basenji Kip hated to go out if it was raining. That's typical of basenjis. But if it was raining steadily, he would stop drinking water so he wouldn't have to pee. At first we thought it was a coincidence, but this happened every time it rained. Our next Basenji would go out if it was raining, but he would just stand miserably with his head down and refuse to pee, even when we held an umbrella over him.

I have a shiba and sometimes he is a little but similiar in attitude. I never owned a dog before but my sister has a couple dogs and when we got him it kind of almost hurt my feelings at first because I though he didn’t like me and I wasn’t sure what to do about that but it didn’t take to long before I realized that he’s just a different kind of dog. He’s really so sweet. I like that you made this video for people to see your dogs natural behavior because I could imagine someone getting a basenji and thinking their dog doesn’t like them because of what’s just their natural behavior and how it contradicts what you see in a lot of other dog breeds.

100% Basenji owner. Well done. Right now I'm in a dilemma as I'm looking for my next dog. The three contenders are Shiba Inu, Chow Chow and a Basenji. They have similar characteristics of being independent, can live in an apartment and are stubborn. I love the Chow Chow because it is never destructive, quiet and has the least separation anxiety out of the three. On the other hand, I would choose a Shiba Inu because it does not make unnecessary barking for nothing, is the most affectionate out of the three and is the least stand-offish of strangers. However, the Basenji has the right size and weight for me and does not shed anything like the other two, low maintenance but not sure if they are quiet due to their yodel. A very tough decision and your help would be appreciated.

My girl is only a year and a half old. She's not slowed down to that point yet. She will go out any time I ask. When she was a pup she was wild with crazy energy!! I do see as she becomes older the wild energy becomes less and less. One thing with her now is that she will stay in bed a while after I'm up. Mine is a huge snuggler which I love! She wants to be where I'm at.

This young lady is a carbon copy of my Basenji Ruby! If you expect behavior of a typical K9 you can forget about it!

When I got my basenji pit I was told. She was bull mastiff pit mix. Over the next year I noticed things that wasn’t dog like. She runs and jumps like an antelope and acts like a cat. We did dna with vet and she is pit/basenji. Which explains why she never barked until 5 years old but even her bark sounds odd. She “whines” for everything. The high pitch yodel and she is so stubborn. She knows how to fetch doesn’t want to so she doesn’t. She knows outside as soon as my scrubs are on. I will have to love on her and physically carry her outside because I work 12 hours. And she can’t hold it that long. She learned tricks super fast for treats but now rushes herself through all 5 without commands just does it 😂

My 3 Basenjis always want to go for a walk. But to go out to the backyard on their own especially when wet no way.

We call Bali (our Badenji) a "Cog", loves being lazy, does he wants, but needs to follow us around everywhere because that's what he wants.... Miss Zulu had that look in her eye like she'd bite you if you tried throwing her out her bed straight away... half cat, half dog, same status as human.
