This was great advice! I recently had a zoom callback for a commercial and it was just like how you described in the video. This really helped a lot!

I've learned in Callbacks / Zoom Calls (nowadays), one of my most important things (or at least from the few experiences I've had) I've realized is to be the part, not only in the reading but in all communication. As simple as that sounds, some callbacks I've done, where I've auditioned for a younger role, I've spoken as my normal self, which they find mature, and find that I'm suddenly "too old" for the part. Once I began speaking younger (as the roles I audition for are usually younger than I actually am), I've found a better percentage of bookings from the initial zoom meeting / call back.

WHAT HAPPENED TO ME?: Selftape casting, a single phrase with different attitudes, I got virtual CALLBACK (Zoom), new instructions: " Fainting carater reaction...", they send a video with the reference and a note: "We need a stunt performer?, we want to see people wh can fall into a crash pad...", I saw the video, I prepare my mattress, I practice the action 4 hours before, I did it on my Callback...and they called me yesterday. I got the part.

Kurt, first if I may say how enjoyable and informative your videos are, Thank You! I do have a question in ref to talent agencies receiving role breakdowns, do casting agencies/directors normally work with specific talent agents/agencies? If so, a talent is limited to only being submitted for the roles in which their agents works w/ specific casting directors/agencies, correct? Thank You!
@ActingCareerCenter
@ActingCareerCenter 2 года назад
Yes, that is often how it works. And it is usually regional. So Atlanta area casting directors typically work with Atlanta area talent agents (and maybe some of the neighboring states).

Hello Kurt, Can you do a video about what a working actor is? Because you said it a lot in your videos and I just want you to go to details on what it means. Does it mean making a living off acting, booking a lot of roles paid and unpaid, Does that means you're always busy when it comes to acting not having off time
@ActingCareerCenter
@ActingCareerCenter 2 года назад
Good suggestion! I will add it to my list. For now, I will say that I define a working actor as anyone who is getting paid to act. That could mean a million dollars or it could mean a hundred dollars. Making a living from acting income alone is very very difficult and not always sustainable due to the unpredictability of the industry. An actor could do everything right and still have a bad year financially. That's the vast majority of actors have a second (or third or fourth) source of income to balance out the irregularity of acting work.

Hey Kurt I am a huge fan of your videos on RU-vid I recently discovered you a couple months ago during the pandemic and I wanted to reach out and ask you a question that you haven’t really touched up on some of your RU-vid videos I am currently 18 years old and I am considering to pursue acting as a career, I have no experience and was thinking of going to acting classes as you advised first but I have heard a lot of people give me advice to move to LA and start booking parts in the teenage roles and build a portfolio because I can look the part but I am not actually under the age of 18. Should I go to acting classes first or pursue those roles that are “easier” to get because I look younger . thank you so much for taking the time to read my message and I hope you’re doing well !

@ActingCareerCenter
@ActingCareerCenter 2 года назад
I know it can be frustrating but the fact that you keep making it to the final stage means you are doing something right. At the end of the day, they can only cast one person even if thousands of people submitted for the role. The casting process is very unpredictable. I'm currently on a streak of 60+ auditions with no bookings.

Was waiting for a video from Mr Yue. Btw, have a question. Am not American but I study from and stay in America. Can I audition to act in any American movies as posted by backstage? And, is it also safe or necessary for me to get an American Agent?
@liquidbraino
@liquidbraino 2 года назад
I think a lot of that depends on your location. You can submit for anything you want but need to take a few things into consideration. For example do you fit the role? If they're looking for a 20 something African American female - well that's kind of obvious it's not something you'd want to submit for. Also if you live in Dallas Texas but the audition is in Los Angeles or New York they're not going to fly you out to the audition or for the role in most cases. If they're looking for someone with a specific accent and you don't have don't have that accent & can't do accents then it's probably best to not waste your own time or the casting directors time. You should also be submitting on Casting Networks, Actors Access and Casting Frontier. Those are the main ones that a talent agent will want you to already be signed up with before they will represent you AND there certain roles you're not going to even see because they only get sent to agents. Agents get different breakdowns than actors do and when you get an agent they will be submitting you to some of those that you otherwise wouldn't have access to. Before you sign up on any casting site though make sure that it covers productions happening in your area. I'm not sure which ones cover which areas but the three I mentioned above all cover the Los Angeles area. Another thing about accents, if you CAN do different accents it will increase your odds of getting work. For example if you're German and have a German accent the roles you can submit for will be very limited but if you can pull off a believable American accent you'll get a LOT more work. I know a girl from Germany (she's in my acting class) and it took me six days to figure out that she was even German because she NEVER speaks with her natural accent and she does such a great American accent that she had me fooled. I'd have never known if she didn't tell me, except that when she get angry her natural accent comes out.
@kevinkalyowa6620
@kevinkalyowa6620 2 года назад
@@liquidbraino Thanks bruv! I am African. Originally, from Uganda, East Africa. And I am a 19 year old man. I do the American accent so well and I do my African accent as well. Depending on whom am talking to. The African accent, I use it mostly with my African friends. I always use the American accent, With ma parents and literally, everyone. Am trying to learn the British accent which is the most difficult, I guess. 😁 I stay in Michigan but can move to Las Vegas at my brother's. Is that helpful? And thanks about the guidance up there. 👊
@ActingCareerCenter

Also depends on your residency status. If you're not a US citizen or green card holder, you'll need a specific work visa that will allow you to work as an actor in the US. I'm not an immigration attorney so you'll have to seek one out if you need to know the details about that.

How to get into a character which you are not in real life?

Hi Kurt! So I’m an aspiring non-established actor from Denmark who wants to pursue acting in USA, California. I’m planning to go there for a minimum of six months. The problem is that I would like to be able to have a job whilst going to auditions and castings when I’m there. So my question is, what type of visa should I apply for?

Unfortunately, I don't know. You'd have to talk to an immigration attorney about that

Hello there... Please I don't have a correct or say exact answer on the question that I've asked below, it will be of great help if u can provide it. Is there any surplus (extra) money given to actor and actress for explicit seen in movie or dramas, web series besides the fee they received as they are booked?

If the movie is under a SAG-AFTRA (union) contract in the US, yes, there may be a pay bump for that.

Every area is different so I would recommend looking for an acting school in your area because they would probably know

Hey Kurt, about a week ago I told my mom that I wanted to get into the acting business, I am 15 btw, I told her about you and your story and how you moved to Atlanta in 2016(i believe) I also told her how you were on a super bowl commercial, and she told me " No, think more realistically, only 1 in ten thousand make it in the acting business." Do you have any advice on what i should do since she is not going to help me out with this crazy dream? Another thing i also want to add is that i am home schooled and there is no theater in this homeschool group and my mom is not going to help me get into any theater groups, she keeps putting it off.

Try to find community theater and attempt learning on your own until you can get some acting classes me personally i don’t think it’s mandatory for acting classes but you do learn alot.

Any little thing you can do whether it’s performing in a church ur in or anything you should take the chance! And also just record yourself see what you did wrong and ask others and just keep improving and learning!

Almost all acting schools have online classes now. You can absolutely attend classes no matter where you live.
