Do JETS confuse you?!!!!! Finally understand the necessary basics- as explained by a neonatologist! /// Bunnell gave us great images and videos for this one! So LEARN: How does the jet function?? What does the jet PIP affect? What gives you the 'jiggle'? Should you always use the jet with a conventional ventilator? What buttons affect ventilation and Oxygenation? When do you use sigh breaths? How can you 'pop' open the lung with atelectasis? What is the relevance of the I-time? What sort of rates are babies on? What pressures (PIP? PEEP?) determine lung expansion?
A massive THANKS to Bunnell (bunl.com/) for helping us with so many educational materials for this video (and especially to Kari Neville BSRC, RRT-NPS, FAARC who couldn't have been more responsive and helpful!)

This was a phenomenal video! I loved the graphics (thank you Bunnell). I have worked with a jet for years, but this raised my understanding to a new level! I love the jet because it makes it much easier to do skin to skin therapy . Thank you. Now to send this link to all my new grads!

I’m so happy you liked it! Was going to contact you that it was out and then decided maybe that was creepy?! Ha! We spent way too long on it and as we were editing I was still thinking of things I wish I added or said differently! Ha! Thanks so much Anne! Hope you’re well!

Yes it was a lot! I came across a jet in the NICU as a RT student first night at the hospital and it was very intimidating. My preceptor had forgotten how it all worked since he was not usually assigned to the NICU. How I wish I had been able to view your video before that experience! I would have felt so confident knowing why there is a conventional vent attached to the Jet and what they each contributed to the overall picture. Thank you so much for taking on this complicated subject.

Oh what a lovely comment Cheryl- thanks! We're SO happy that this video gives anyone any confidence! Such a great compliment! Hope you're loving your time as an RT- and hopefully you get to spend some more time in the NICU :)

Fantastic information! Listening in from Perth Western Australia… Scotland never had Jet ventilators so was a whole new concept for me when I first started using them. This video really helped me understand fully how to work with it. Thank you!

Oh I’m so glad you found it helpful!!! It’s funny- we didn’t used them in fellowship and then I started my first job and we used them and I went through same thing! Feels quite overwhelming at first but they’re such a great machine!!!! Hope you enjoy your new role (how fun!)- thanks so much for taking the time to write to us :)

Fantastic summation of the JET, will share this with all our nurses! The videos with the lung in the water bath was an excellent visual tool. Keep the great content flowing!

Can I just tell you that I love all your videos! I am in NNP school and anytime I have a question I come here and find the most helpful videos! NICUs all seem to do things slightly differently and sometimes people who have only been working at one place can't explain why their policies and procedures are the way they are. I love your broader scope of the issues and the depth of understanding you display in these videos. I am always thinking you are going to realize your worth and sell this package of videos for thousands of dollars! Because we would buy! Thank you so much for what you do!

Can I just tell you how happy your comment made me!!! I'm presenting at a conference this week- lots going on- wondering how to balance everything- and kept coming back to this comment- thinking 'everything will be just fine'. So thank you- for being here and for writing it. Means more than you'd think. Ridiculously, I've changed jobs 5 times since fellowship (16 years ago). This sounds like I have a personality problem- ha!- but really it was all logistics/ family stuff. I am now in my forever job- and hopefully never leaving. But what this moving has taught me- is every unit does things slightly differently- but lots of units have great outcomes (and great nurses and NNPs and docs and RTs and speech therapists etc etc). So I think it has made me quite flexible with what we should be doing- as long as we're all on the same page. Thank you again so much- I hope you're enjoying your role!!

Truely speaking you are changing word wide community. Please prepare renal problems ( especially nephrology first then you may add urology or you can do it gour way). Thanks for your life long retaining and practically helpful teaching. I feel confident and then read more fast after I learn any thing from you. I don't care wether my professors teach me good or not once I get clue from you the rest is just broading things right. Thank you sincerly!

Phenomenal transformation from examination of newborn to jet ventilation. Superb. I have not seen a jet ventilator. But I am confident to operate one after this video.

Amazing videos. But I’m curious about the role of the RT. I’ve worked at some places, community hospitals, where some NICU RT’s ran codes, intubated, set up and managed the vents. I know it’s not like that everywhere but as a clinician that was around some really good, veteran NiCU Rt’s, I was hoping if you can please go over on how to set it up and it’s application. Thank you
@TalaTalksNICU
@TalaTalksNICU 5 месяцев назад
Hello! agreed there are lots of really great RTs around! If everything depended on it I could probably set up a jet (unless some piece wasn’t exactly right!) but I am definitely nowhere near an expert in the set up. I’ll need to find an RT for that (and have a great one in mind). We are going through more applications in the next jet video- out in a couple of weeks :)

The Jet was extremely intimidating to me. Servo Pressure🤔😡 I was very lucky to come across an article that covered the Jet in details way, way before I discovered the Bunnell website. It is actually easy to work with. I liked it and became very comfortable with it. Did iNO, Heliox, measured actual PIP once on the oscillator with the Jet

Oh love it when it clicks like that! Good for you! Do you mind sharing article? Thanks!!!

@@TalaTalksNICU Will look for it. It was over 10 years ago. I know I still have it. Will post when I find it. That’s how I understood that the Jet, the Life Pulse, uses transitional flow which was eye opening for me

This was a great video because there was no senseless stupid loud music as you had in the video that you have explained x-rays x-ray reading. You do not need a Music and stupid music for the video to be rated good. We need you are wonderful knowledge not the stupid music. Please never make a video with that ugly music.

I wish we had this advice a couple of years ago!!! you're right the music is totally distracting! We're just learning this all- trying to make it slightly better each time. Thanks for your constructive criticism!
