AT age 80 I am recovery from a fractured femur neck with a partial hip replacement. I enjoy hiking and live near a flat, wide hiking trail. I kept the handicap walker in the house and the rollator lived at the bottom of my porch steps. I could use it to go down my long gravel driveway and out onto the dirt road. It is wonderful for transporting my groceries from my vehicle to the porch steps or ferrying my week's garbage to my kind neighbor's bins. I will use it thus even after total recovery. As I gained strength and stamina I pushed the rollator down the hiking trail using the seat for rest stops and the basket to transport water, a female urinal and my lunch and a jacket. Eventually I pushed it on a 4 mile hike , even up hill and through sand. I could not have walked that distance without the aid of the rollator and the ability to sit and rest. I now use a telescoping stool because at the 3 month mark I can make the distance but only if I can sit frequently along the way. I no longer use the handicap walker in the house, but I love the rollator to use around my rural country property and down the road and on that trail.

My left knee is badly damaged(Dry Cleaner for 18 years)and my Rollator has been a Godsend when I go down the shops. My knee tends to give way on me without warning and if you grip the handles upwards the Walker will not move...I don't mean pushing it down to lock but it just stops it dead. It stopped me falling onto the floor and I managed to pull myself up using the backrest part,I then put the brakes on and got myself onto the seat!! The normal one is wider and I find it difficult to use in my flat as its very bulky. I prefer the Roller one myself but it depends what works best for people,I used to use a stick but that was a nightmare. Enjoy your Rollernator

I have a TKR coming up this week and was trying to figure out what I'd need for mobility afterwards. My husband used one of those rollator things after his back surgery and I thought it would be good for me as well, but now I know that the regular walker is far more suited for my purposes. Your video was VERY informative - thank you so much!

Thank you for this video. Just had 2 foot surgeries in one week. Non weight bearing for 2 months. Not able to use a knee stroller or iWalk due to a recent knee injury. I'm successfully rolling around the house in a nice plush office chair that lets me stop and rest comfortably, with the foot elevated on a couch or counter. Transfers are no problem. Walker works well in the bathroom for standing and transferring to and from the throne, and I leave it in there, although-- it's called a walker, not a 'hopper.' Best solution available though. Leaving my house requires a 6" stepdown, and crutches seem to be an accident waiting to happen. Think I'll get another walker to leave at the door to the outside, and then take with me when I go places.
@m.taylor
@m.taylor 5 месяцев назад
Crutches are really dangerous. Using them with a broken leg led to wrist, hand, finger, shoulder and ankle pain along with me almost falling over a few times. Plus when the crutches were propped up against a wall, it would slide off and land on my injured foot.

Thanks very much for your review and comparison. Important distinctions. I see the value of having 2 types of rollators for different situations but I intuited for my mother the 4-wheel on the left would be a hazard because of the different parts, her poor motor coordination, poor spatial awareness, mental scatteredness even pre-stroke. She won't always remember when and how to apply the brakes and she will trip over the larger wheels. Appreciations for your clear break down of functions.

Had a terrible time putting together since my nervous system is damaged. Then the brake plastic parts didn't screw properly on one side and had to return it. So I have decided to look for a used one. Thanks for the video, since I fell a couple of times and sprained my ankle I will purchase the lighter more stable walker. Just found this channel so thanks. It takes experimentation like the motorized brushes I just found so I can clean the bathroom counter, etc. by myself. Haven't looked at all your videos but I recommend the triangle pillow with a ledge on each side with a different angle for reading with a kindle in order to hold in bed or sitting, and the push button kindle because swiping one is hard. Also found a video on how to get off the floor once you are down there using stuff around the house.

Can you do a video on the best Rollator Transporter combo. Featuring the light wt, foldability, wheels, back-foot-arm rest, movability on different surfaces, Foot rest storage. Is there one where you can narrow the walker to fit into tighter spaces. Adjustable handles, brakes. Some are 150-300-1200$ Wish one could find the perfect one that worked in the house and outside. There are so many out. Hugo, Medline, Ntiro. I just wish there was one spreadsheet with the catalog of the top 10-20.

My husband fell using the standard two wheel walker. He went up to the bathroom sink to wash his hands and when he released his one hand to turn on the water the other hand remained on the walker which tilted sideways and down he crashed walker and all. When he would try to push himself up with one hand on the seat and the other on the walker again he would fall as the walker would tilt sideways. Something should be done to make the standard walker more stable. . My mother years ago fell several times and I wondered if it might be that walker that she used daily in a nursing home. I myself noticed that sideways tilt when trying to balance myself while helping my husband. That walker is dangerous. 🙁

The standard 2 wheel Walker is dangerous going sideways. It easily flips and the person will fall. I saw this happen on a clothing store where the racks were too close together for the elderly lady to go through straight. These walkers are not able to maintain balance going sideways unfortunately.

Any mobility device is dangerous if used in an unadvisedly way. Side stepping with a 2WW can be done but requires proper technique plus adequate balance and strength from the person using it.

You failed to mention that the Rollator seat folds up. With the Rollator seat folded up you can step forward into the middle of the walker. This puts your hands and hips next to the hand, grips your hips hips next to the hand grips that pushes your elbows back. With your elbows back that opens up your chest for much better breathing. The way I use my Rollator as I walk with a seat folded up, and as I walk along and run out of breath, I step forward between the hand grips which pushes my elbows back, provides me with much better breathing, and with a few steps, I regain my breath and continue on walking.

What would you recommend for someone with Parkinson’s who may tend to freeze but also lacks stability? I read a study indicating that 4WWs can reduce freezing while 2WW can increase this.

I had the rollator walker the blue one that she started off with. The blue one is standard issue and what I mean by that is, insurance companies cover most of the cost. These walkers are made in China and are not worth getting Although hospitals push them like candy. They have several design flaws and third party Companies and hospitals alike get these walkers from china because they are stupid cheap and they generate the best profit. The blue rollator 50 dollars, when I say cheap I mean you get what you pay for. I'm not going to mention the design flaws these walkers have, However I will tell you to buy american if you want Quality, they're much better. I know they're more expensive However They are safer and much more durable. The functionality is much better as well. I am disabled myself and went through several walkers And some are downright dangerous. My opinion is based on personal experience. Please don't take my word for it, do your own research. If it's from China it's garbage, Again my opinion.
