The modern sales world has been evolving at a rapid pace, especially in the last five years.
In the past, the general understanding of a salesperson was simple. It was a person that sold products and services. It was a simple sales role where a sales representative sold a product or service.
But now, the sales industry has moved into a place where we have highly specialized sales roles.
For example: SDR, BDR, Account Executive, Account Manager, etc.
Each of these sales roles plays an essential part in the sales process. From sales prospecting, running sales calls, closing, and account management.
This is especially true for any B2B selling where a sales team must work together to turn total strangers into paying customers.
It's hard to keep up with what each of these roles!
I'll be breaking down two specific roles: the Sales Development Rep and the Business Development Rep.

SDR and BDR can be emotionally draining. Because I'm doing this as well. But, I set up meetings and take calls as well and close them too. A total Sales Role

@@amxaas4450 work can be "not hard", but still require hard-work such a initiative, effort, etc. Like working in retail is not something I would say is difficult. But it does require hard work such a alot of physical labor etc.

​@@amxaas4450Depends on what you mean by 'successful.' It's easy to treat it like a minimum wage, hourly job where you make your calls and go home and don't care. If you want to make significant bonuses, you need to be more aggressive.

@@ambergrey3295 😑 not well lol. It was 3 zoom interviews, each about an hour long and they asked the same questions in all of them. I wasn’t as prepared as i should have been though. You really have to reflect on your life before hand in these interviews

Three Key Takeaways: 1) The role of a SDR and/or a BDR is pretty similar. Basically, you're the person that sets up meetings for the Account Executive to close. All you're doing is creating a list of potential customers and getting them to say yes to a meeting (aka: prospecting and lead generating), 2) This job is a grind. It can be difficult because a lot of it is repetitive and about 90% of it is solely researching potential customers. But it's a very important job. Without SDRs/BDRs, companies have no leads and then they can't sell anything to anyone, 3) Usually, and if you're a good employee putting in good work, after about a year or two, SDRs/BDRs tend to get promoted to Account Executives. But you can also get promoted to an Account Manager (if you're really damn good) and/or you can be a SDR/BDR manager. Meaning, there is tons of room for growth in this position

That’s exciting to hear. My advice to stand out would be to show you have: the willingness to learn, a genuine reason for doing sales (vs. just got the money), and persistence to push through when things get hard. In my opinion, they’re looking more for personality not necessarily past relevant experience since it’s an entry level job

Hi Patrick what sort of commission could you expect from appointment setting alone. I own a lead gen agency and we currently only get paid on deals closed on commission never knew about being paid for number of appointments.

yeah you can get paid per appointment, depends on the company. depends on how qualified the lead is and their confidence to close that lead.

@@patrickdang Thank you Patrick. Could I ask you a question. I work as an outsourced SDR for my own lead gen company and sell on behalf of b2b digital agencies. I do cold calling as a service and for nearly all my clients I average a 20-25% meeting book rate after prospecting. Do you think that's ok or i need to improve i'm new to sales so still trying to get better.
