this year in a sophomore in high school and it is my second year in my ASL class and i’ve learned a lot of things like classifiers other things like how to act respectfully when there is a deaf person in the classroom but neither of my teachers has ever explained the difference in ASL SEE and PSE so it wasn’t until today that i learned that there is a difference in that type of way for signing. 🤟

this was a very good informative video Cheyenna. I'm around your parents age, I'm deaf in my right ear and hard of hearing in my left(my entire life). I grew up not knowing any other deaf people. past few years I've been trying to learn ASL for me. I feel like I missed out, not even knowing about deaf culture until recently. I'm enjoying your videos of you your brother and friends interacting. I loved the one with your grandmother especially. please do some with your parents. I don't have any real questions, It just feels great watching the normality of your life. thank you for being so open.

Watching you sign is fascinating. I’ve heard of the differences between ASL, SEE, and PSE, but getting an explanation with examples from someone who signs was cool. I’m glad you include sound in your videos. Not sure why, but I like hearing the soft little sounds your mouth makes as you sign (and the occasional laughter). All very interesting.

it’s really interesting to see the differences in the written grammar of deaf vs. hearing people and how spoken language changes the way it’s written, typically people who can and cannot hear have vastly different ways of structuring sentences and placing pauses or emphasis with punctuation

My mother is deaf. She went to Frederick MD School for Deaf. I loved going there as a kid!! Anyway, my moms deaf friends would love when i would act out things. Like i could give them more emphasis on a word to give the words more feelings. Like i would sign songs for them . And im used to SEE AND ASL. I also notice tho that different states have different sign or slang. . Like maybe an accent if you will,lol..... I met a woman in Georgia she was deaf and she had a few different ways she would sign . It had basic movement but maybe different style of the hands. Anyway I Love your videos.

When signing in ASL or PSE, do you still think in English? And when signing in ASL or PSE, are you still mouthing (i.e., speaking without vocalizing) in English? If yes, then isn’t that essentially communicating in two languages at once? How would your brain process two languages at the same time?

Moonwolf -gaming- ASL is NOT English, that is a common misconception. ASL has completely different grammar, syntax, and sentence structure from English. And ASL was not derived from the English language. ASL is simply a signed language that can be very easily translated into English, but it is a completely different language nonetheless.
