Honestly, AVID is the class I look most forward to. I don't know about other schools, but our class is really like a family. We all get along and have fun, along with some laughing of jokes. Our teacher has us do fun stuff if we have time at the end of class, and what they teach us comes with a mostly awkward but fun activity. Most of my classes are a drag because I get left out or the teacher is strict or whatever, but the classmates and the teacher in AVID are amazing. It's the beginning of the year, third week of school and so far: I can speak better in Public which I have a phobia of, I can manage time, I can make a first impression, I passed a binder check thanks to the guidelines we went through, I can make a debrief after every class discussion so I can basically make it better. I learned so much in three weeks. Think about how much I will learn through the rest of the year. Edit: This comment seems to be resurfacing now for some reason so I wanted to add an update to it. I wrote this a long time ago as a sixth grader in middle school, and I am a third year in college now. Looking back, AVID was a great experience that prepared me for college in my opinion! I use a lot of what I learned now and it helps me maintain good grades :)
This is my 3rd year in Avid and it is a lot of fun. I was struggling a lot in 6th grade and avid helped me in 7th grade. It is very helpful to be in avid. You wont regret being in Avid
My granddaughters teacher signed her up for this, she didn't really want to be in avid, but she liked it after a while because it helped her and her teacher was her 1 and 2 period teacher so she felt welcomed.
I enjoyed Avid, for me it was like another family. Many of us graduated and entered college together and etc. It seemed like a lot of work back then but I knew it was good. I'm in professional school finishing up to be a dentist.
I have a question I might want to join avid but I have a 4.0, and I was wondering if I am still eligible to join? Even though I do not need it, I want it I am middle school by the way.
I honestly HATE avid. I've been in avid since 7th grade, and I'm currently a freshman in high school. The only thing that it has given me is some note taking skills and some confidence, all three of these years have been nothing but a whole bunch of people talking and goofing off instead of doing what their supposed to do. If we had an assignment due: I'm one of the only kids who turn it in. During tutorials: I'm the only one who seems to understand what's going on. People say that being in avid is like being in one big family, but for me I've been nothing but left out. If you are genuinely trying hard to get into college, do not take avid. It is an absolute waste of time.
@Hazzyclause What if you have those skills before. I can take notes already and had a lot of confidence already. I dont even need tutorials. I understand all my classes and if I had any questions I just ask the teacher and solve it myself. My Avid grades are determined by needless organization and Note taking that we learn and relearn. I don't feel stressed with all my Ap classes, I feel stressed on the needless activities put on by Avid. I admit it does help other students and my friends, I however don't need it. Now its being in Avid helps students get into college than the students themselves.
All the people commenting saying that AVID is bad, yes, AVID might be bad for YOU. I've been in AVID for one year and it definitely helped me so much I got suspended I used to get in trouble and now I'm a much better person it doesn't matter if it is bad for you it might help others so you should just keep your opinions to yourself and let others choose for themselves. Don't give them false interpretations.
It’s probably gonna be the best decision I ever make , I want to be a veterinarian so hopefully they can help get me into classes I need to take and get me ready
@@enriquediaz6765 you really watched prince EAs video and now you think that every part of school is bad😂🤣 I agree the school system is horrible, but college prep electives are probably the only useful thing you get out of going to school. Keep taking trash though kid, one day everyone that was dedicated to going to college and took this class will be in college getting a degree to make big money while you are gonna be at a minimum wage job hating your life, stop talking trash to people that want to be successful just because you hate your life, that’s not our problem!
I am in 8th grade. This is my first year in AVID and I gotta say AVID is both great and not great. Great because of the fun activities like building a tower using sticks and marshmallows and making a tower out of cups using ONLY string to pile the cups on top of each other but boring because of the TRF
+Cecilia Sabchez We're glad you like the team building activities! As far as those sometimes "boring" TRF's go - we thought you might like this blog: avidcollegeready.org/college-career-readiness/2015/9/29/when-are-we-going-to-use-this-in-real-life.html TRFs are like orange cones (read the blog and you'll see)
+AVID Center L0L0L0L nigga i posted dis "nigga tf? i had a 3.3 gpa when I was in avid; however, I turned my life around myself and left avid. result? fucking 4.0 gpa the next semester. this shitty program was a big waste of my time wtf" and u deleted this shit. lmao shows how shitty this program is. keep hiding the truth
get some counseling to understand how you can overcome all the trauma :) I went through a really bad childhood and no one was there for me, but the older i got i realized that the entire world isnt like this. Find people who care about you
My grades dropped when I was in AVID. It wasted my time and the only way I brought them back up was by dropping the class. Don't take my word for it but, everyone should do what they think is right.
Does anyone have any opinions on joining AVID? I'm thinking of joining but there are quite a few people saying that it's boring and you don't learn anything. I'm looking for some suggestions.
I literally was in AVID for 5 years and it really was not helpful if I’m being honest. They down talk a lot of other students who are not in the program and say they only way you’ll do well in college is by doing TRF’s and taking complex notes. Which is complete and utter bs. Most professors at my university legit give you the notes already so you don’t have to take them. I finessed that class so hard and barely tried. Super easy to get good grades in it. Finessed all of the binder checks and note checks, same with the TRF’s. And the icing on the cake the teacher hated me yet out of all 20 kids only a few of us made it to universities 😂. I was one of the students out of 3 who made it and they definitely assumed I’d just be going to a community college. Honestly I don’t know if it helped me when I signed up for college acceptance. I think it was just me having a GPA above 3.0 and my race. Ended up getting a full ride and doing fine now. Honestly gotta make your own decision, but If I’m being honest it was just another annoying class in my experience.
I'm not in it. But tons of people hate it. People wanna leave, and some people have called it trash. Now I never have enjoyed school or avid, but I much prefer school than avid.
Since I have actually took this class, here are my opinions, one, you really need to decide if your going to college or your not gonna, in other words figure out what job/career path you want to take because some do not require college therefore making avid useless, next, realize that the first couple years you take this class it is going to be really hard, just because they have high expectations, but after that you will start to get comfortable and it won’t be extremely hard, it’s not going to be easy when you barley start though, so patience is key. I personally hated avid in my first couple of weeks cause of how hard it was, so just expect high expectations, also figure out how dedicated you are, and how much you really want to go to college, cause if your not determined this class will be hard, but don’t think avid is all bad though! You go on field trips sometimes to colleges and in high school, for me at least, you get to go to six flags for a day if your in avid! And just remember, all your hard work and all the days you might have been stressed, will pay off. So it’s not like your getting nothing in return for all the hard work you did. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that if you take avid for your entire high school years they will pay some percentage of your college tuition.
i was invited to join but they are going to interview me apparently. im scared mainly because of that. any tips? i expect a "why do you want to join" question but i cant really figure out what to say. i only have a little time so help would be appreciated.
You still need help? I had the interview. But since there was no more room. I couldn't join, and I'm not gonna sign up again. People say it's hella boring, and it does seem fuckin' boring. But.. still need help?
damn i forgot about this comment. to update, i was sick the day of the interview so i couldnt go. somehow though, i was still accepted in. i dont know how but i was. thank you to those who replied.
Enrique Diaz they sent me a letter saying that I'd be doing avid next year and listed some things I'd need to buy. and idk which one i like better tbh. i think i mostly prefer going to regular school. at first i didnt think that though.
@@saltyboya3976 Uh well...I graduated high school 2 years ago and I was 12 when I made that comment. I never ended up taking any avid classes, and actually forgot that I had any interest in avid by the time I started 8th grade. However, my best friend did take avid classes and we would walk to the busses after 7th period, which was avid for her. She would tell me that the strategies that she was taught and employed in her tests and homework actually helped her become a better student, and allowed her to do better in math which was a subject that she was weak in. So from her perspective, it was a great experience.
Honestly I don’t like avid because it is just wasting one class in high school I could’ve be using that one class rn as a freshman and the 3 years to take requirements class to graduate high school just please take me out it’s supposed to be an elective and my school if u don’t like ur elective u can tell ur counselor to change it WHY CANT WE DO THE SAME FOR AVID!!!!
David Flores I’m going into freshmen and I chose Avid as one of my top 3 electives that I wanted, I think I regret it now, what should I do, hopefully I don’t get in.
@@Nguyenster_ yeah well you’ve only been doing if for 1 year so you probably haven’t learned literally anything at all, remember, you have to be like these people in the video and take it for the full extent of time, it pays off in more ways than you think.
Tutorials are honestly the stupidest things ever, instead of having me stand in front of my classmates and look stupid for 10-20 minutes, I COULD LITERALLY JUST GO ASK MY ACTUAL TEACHER FOR HELP.....
I hate school, I hate AVID too. Schools is useless. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but it keeps becoming true. I say school can be important. But half the time, nah.
@@enriquediaz6765 School is not useless. School is where to educate people who wants education for better future, you can’t really get a good job without a good degree.
That’s not the goal though, they want you to have better Public speaking and social skills, I do agree they should do something else to improve those skills though because trfs probably aren’t the best.
Oh and BTW now you must be accepted and your old teachers will tell AVID about you you can't just join unless there is enough room. Then you can if you have good grades.
avid is full of crap it slows you down lowers your grade it's a bunch of extra work your avid teacher will make you stay in the class until you graduate and they will say all your grades matter in middle school they really don't matter unless your taking a language you don't need to worry much until 9thgrade I urge you to not join and quit avid
Yeah okay buddy, trust me, you will never have a good grade if your not determined😂They even tell you it’s going to be a hard class and to only join if your going to take it super seriously or you will not gain anything from it and it probably will slow your grade down if you don’t care about it, remember, it’s a college prep class. Not a normal elective
Whoever is saying not to do avid should stop. Avid just might not be for you but don’t tell others to not do it because they might think it’s horrible and miss a whole new opportunity on something they might actually like. You don’t hate avid, avid was just not right for you. If you tell others that avid is horrible when they might actually like it could leave someone without something to help them through college that they might really want/need. I don’t care if you dislike avid just don’t tell others not to do it because of work.
