What is causing the CLICKING sound in 4 wheel drive? CV Boot, Driveshaft symptoms Jeep

In this video, I demonstrate the symptoms of a broken CV boot on the driveshaft. There is a constant clicking noise from the front driveshaft which means your CV Boot has issues. The CV boot can be fixed; however, if you have lifted your jeep as I have, it is best to upgrade to an aftermarket higher quality driveshaft. I went with Adams JK specific 1350 Driveshaft. The clicking sounds will mainly happen if you are driving in a 4-wheel drive and will be more pronounced with the turns. The sound is not there in two-wheel drive.

We have this same noise on a Grand Cherokee. It's an AWD 5.7l. we changed the CV axles out. But the popping didn't go away. We noticed there's some bushings in the front end that are wore. Do you think front end movement can cause the CV axles to make this sound?

I'm getting the exact sound after I went from 35's to 37's. Why do you think the sound only occurs in 4 wheel. It is not as loud in 4 low as 4 high, but perhaps that because I'm going slower. Anyway I have 37's on a long-arm 3.5 inch lift. Love to hear your thoughts.
@OverlandPlus
@OverlandPlus Год назад
It’s more than likely related to the CV boot. You can easily see if you check it. You can fix this; however because if the lift I suggest to instead upgrade it.

My 08 is doing this noise even when it's not in 4wd. I've been told it's the driveline. That it needs a spacer. But my driveshaft has came out a little from the transfer case. And when it's in four-wheel-drive it pops like crazy

My 99 jeep TJ is making that noice at full turn is it the drive shaft? It’s on a 2” boost lift
@OverlandPlus
@OverlandPlus 2 года назад
Is it making the noise while in 4 wheel? That is how mine was and it was louder when turning. I would check it by a mechanic, wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the driveshaft.

If you call them, they will ask you for measurements. You can take measurements yourself of the existing driveshaft and provide them that.

What do you do if you hear this even in 2H
@OverlandPlus
@OverlandPlus 2 года назад
While I didn’t have issue of this noise from drive shaft in 2H, but I would imagine the cause is the same. The cv joint is compromised. You can just replace the cv joint without replacing the whole drive shaft. In my case I went with upgrading it because that was on my list as I have 4 inch lift. I suggested take it to your mechanic and see what they suggest.

SO! I have a 2024 Wrangler and this just started happening. It's under warranty - supposedly. I bring it to the dealer to be addressed and you know what they said???? They said this is NORMAL. WHAT THE LITERAL F IS GOING ON. Normal? What a crap company.
@OverlandPlus
@OverlandPlus 2 месяца назад
You hear the click sounds while in 4 wheel drive? Not normal. Have you lifted the jeep?
@eflix5082
@eflix5082 2 года назад
I think maybe your problem comes from you engaging the 4x4 while in park. All transfer case movement should happen when the transmission is in N (neutral) and your vehicle can move slightly on a hill, allowing the gears to spin slightly and allowing them to lock into place. I have never seen anyone put a Jeep in 4x4 while in park. Sorry dude, credibility lost.
@OverlandPlus
@OverlandPlus 2 года назад
This is a known issue if you have lifted your Jeep and not adjusted the factory driveshaft angle. You are right here I moved to 4x4 while in P but this would happen regardless if you are in N and or even in D with slight forward motion.
@williamowens1325
@williamowens1325 2 года назад
Neutral is for 4wlow bub. Thats every vehicle in the world. Some jeeps have a shift on the fly engagement for 4high. So maybe dont talk about the guys credibility. Because again, not only can you shift to 4whigh in park but also 1st, 2nd,3rd,4th, 5th, drive or reverse for an automatic. This is more than likely stamped right in front of your face on the visor or in your jeep owners manual or any service manual that you can go out and buy.
@williamowens1325
@williamowens1325 2 года назад
Also, the fact that you havent SEEN anyone shift from park means nothing. Ive never been to colorado but I'm sure its there. Ive never seen people jog around new york but I'm sure they do it. The very thing your criticism is about is so commonly known that I dont even understand how you dont know that. "Cant shift from park"? I figure you are either very young and dont know very much or older and so stubborn and set in your ways that you wouldn't even accept your own jeeps manual on this topic. You can shift to 4high from any gear. Thats a fact. Do yourself a favor and never tell anybody again that it has to be neutral for any shifting to 4wd. Its only for 4low.
@sinepari9160
@sinepari9160 Год назад
@@williamowens1325 you're correct and the fact of the matter is it's impossible to even shift to 4lo while in motion unless extremely slow rolling in neutral. You can shift to 4hi moving, the manual says under 35 mph so...what eflix stated is for 4lo
