When molecules collide, chemical reactions can occur -- causing major structural changes akin to getting a new arm on your face! George Zaidan and Charles Morton playfully imagine chemical systems as busy city streets, and the colliding molecules within them as your average, limb-swapping joes.
Lesson by George Zaidan and Charles Morton, animation by Neighbor.

"Let's say that you've got a thousand people on the street and all of them start with their limbs normally attached" just a regular thought experiment of mine...

So what I learnt: In reversible reactions, the conversion of the products to reactants, and reactants to product occur simultaneously. Means, as one side of the equation is always reacting to become the other side, the other side as well, is always reacting to become the opposite side. These reactions occur at the same time, which we call simultaneous. To put it in a simplest example, if you have two buckets of soda and place them side by side, and make soda from the left bucket constantly go to the right bucket, likewise soda from the right bucket constantly go to the left. Therefore, the amount in each soda bucket will more or less always be at a constant ratio.

I wouldn't normally like anthropomorphizing something like a molecule, but the image of people with arms attached to their faces is so strong, it might really help somebody remember the lesson. I do wonder if the lesson will come along for the ride with that strange image.

I have been struggling to understand this concept in class. The people in a town with limbs analogy seems kinda weird at the start, but then when it all clicked I literally started laughing. 2 minutes! That's all it took for me to get the concept. The teachers should just tell me what I need to know and let me do the research myself.
