The variety of topics you explain is amazing. Not just great videos, also great Miro boards, Canva presentations and blog posts to support them. Very interesting channel. Could you do a video of Integrated Production Control System?

Hi Jason, I keep hearing you say "this can not be delegated." First with Safety and QC, now commissioning. Why can these things not be delegated?
@jasonwilliamschroeder
@jasonwilliamschroeder 6 месяцев назад
Because the OPUR or One Person Ultimately Responsible must own these critical items. It never works to kick this to someone else. The leader must take Extreme Ownership.

I think we have a different definition of delegation. Just because I delegate something doesn't mean I no longer own it. I'm 100% on board with "Extreme Ownership", but I also believe in extreme delegation in a sense. Similar to what David Marquet teaches in his book "Turn the Ship Around" I believe in training everyone to understand their bosses job so they can make good decisions on their own. By delegating everything I actually have more time to ensure all of those things are going to plan and being done correctly. I delegate work, not responsibility.

@@stochastic42 here is my point. We have a problem with leaders chucking safety, quality, and commissioning over the wall at new PEs and assistants. A major problem actually. So my advice helps our industry move forward. What is the purpose of your comments? I want to connect.
@stochastic42

@@jasonwilliamschroeder I thought you might wonder the purpose of my comments because I see how they can be taken as oppositional. I'm a relatively new superintendent and my goal is to master the position. So far you are the best source of information I have found but rather than blindly accept everything I feel the urge to push back on things that don't fully make sense to me. In this case I'm not clear if you really mean don't delegate or weather you're just saying don't ignore it and leave it to someone else. In retrospect I probably should have just asked that way. I don't mean to be confrontational with my comments, only to dig into the details because it's not pedantic for me, I worry that I'm delegating things irresponsibly while thinking the opposite. I'd love to come do some training with you guys and ask these questions in person where communication is less burdened, but I can't personally afford it and I don't think my company understands the value in it. My goal is to implement lean practices on my own sites and when people start to notice the difference, I will be in a stronger position to advocate and educate within the company. We have a lot of good superintendents with great leadership skills and construction knowledge but I see the things you talk about, especially crash landings, happening on their sites but they are still operating off CPM only and I didn't connect the two facts until learning from your channel. I hear you about the problem in our industry with leaders chucking safety an QC over the wall and it shocks me. I started as a Carpenter and it was largely the low QC standards I was seeing that drove me to want to be a superintendent. I knew I would be able to deliver a better result than that because I had learned in training that you always get the results you tolerate. I didn't fully understand at the time how I would do it but I knew I would not tolerate low quality results. I'm in a bit of an awkward position at the moment because i'm eager to learn and improve but without a lot of resources to do so. I hope my comments haven't been too obnoxious, I greatly appreciate your content and I've subscribed to all your channels and like all your videos for what that's worth.
