As someone who grow up in a different culture it is so refreshing to learn about others cultures. It is so cool to see if we share any similarities to other cultures and to see it from their point of view.

As an international student I enjoyed watching this video because there is so much history, influence and understanding from all the different cultures and I think there is beauty in all the cultures.

The differences described between cultures were described perfectly. I think the example of a simple common gesture in the US that can get someone arrested in the Philippines really shows how important understanding different cultures is, especially when it comes to traveling. This was another clear, memorable, and considerate explanatory video.

Watching “What’s is culture” it made me understand how important is culture in business. As a person who was born with Mexican parents,my culture taught us to always work hard regardless of the type of job you have, and to reach your dreams if it means to start from the bottom. The elephant example is a great demonstration on what is culture.

Using, "The Blind Men and the Elephant", was a great analogy to use when discussing culture within international business. I love the fact that it pretty much illustrates how different perceptions or perspectives can alter our understanding of a certain culture and how important it is to easily navigate through the global market.

As a person that has lived in two differnt countries and having adapted to two differnt cultures, I can ultimately say this video really helped me categorize some of the differences to directly compare the two. Having lived in both the US and Mexico, although the countries are neighbors, the two cultures and people very largely vary and have definitely given me a good perspective for life that I now apppreciate as I grow older. Furthermore, I came to appreciate and want to learn about different cultures around the world, which this video makes it the origins and details of each culture more easy to categorize and even understand from a comparative standpoint to my home country cultures.

There truly is no "normal" when you think of it in the grand scheme of things. I feel that this video helped me to realize how unique society really is.

Coming from a hispanic family and living in America, culture has been something I have learned to appreciate and understand how these differences shape who we are and what we believe in. I like the example given that in some cultures it is impolite to not shake hands with everyone in the room. at a young age, I was always taught to greet everyone present in the room and to make sure everyone was addressed with a handshake or hug before sitting. to think that other cultures don't require that definitely opened my eyes into learning other cultural differences.

Learning about different cultures has always fascinated me and this video just proved how important it is to understand different cultures. Each culture can view things vastly differently, so it is important to have an understanding of other cultures. This way if you meet someone from a different culture you will already have somewhat of an understanding of their values. This video helped show me how one thing can seem completely normal in one culture, and completely out of the ordinary in another.

This might have been my favorite video because I just find learning about different cultures to be fascinating. The way that a lot of cultures have many similarities shows how much more connected we are than we have previously thought. Growing up in one culture while also learning other cultures from others is a wonderful thing to go through in life. You get to see the values from other people and see they get to do some things differently from everyone.

This video is so important. Learning that there are key differences in every culture enables us to understand that geography, language, and values partake in those differences. I think understanding a country's culture is vital when it comes to marketing your business abroad. This video helps to highlight that. I used to live in Sweden and there are several differences in attitude and there are some marketing strategies used in the U.S. that I don't think would really work over there.

This was one of my favorite videos during this course because not only did I learn a little more about culture but how this also can affect the business world. After watching this video, I am reminded of my time in high school. I went to a school that had boarding students from more than 20 different countries. The language of communication was different. Not only was the language spoken often foreign to me, but the body language of these students said a lot to me. For example, students from Spain were very physical and touchy. Often in American culture, this would be considered overstepping boundaries or flirting.

This video helped me understand that culture encompasses a variety of things such as beliefs, values, religions, and much more. Culture has always been a hard concept for me to grasp or even explain to others. As a person who was born in Mexico but raised in the United States I have been able to experience both cultures. I find it interesting that people in the US resort to a handshake when they are introducing themselves to a new individual whereas people in Mexico greet everyone with a handshake no matter the occasion.

I am from Utah and when I moved to Tyler that was a culture shock for me. Even though I was still in the United States it was so much different than where I grew up. Culture is super important to talk about in the college classroom. It is incredibly helpful to learn about other cultures and how it is formed and what elements they include that might differ from your own. It plays a really big role and having idea might help you close that deal you really need.

Culture influences every aspect of our everyday lives. I like the simile in the video that says culture is like an iceberg. Culture is so complex that it encompasses more than what is just seen above the surface. Culture includes a broad range of elements like language, values, and religion, and the video goes into good detail regarding them. An interesting element in the video was the social stratification caste system that still exists in India. This video is helpful because in the business world if you want to expand internationally or define a target market then it is important to understand other individuals’ way of life.

I love to learn about culture. It is one of my favorite things to learn about in my work life and my personal life. When I think about culture, I think most about values, language, & religion, and sometimes forget there can be a natural geographical aspect of culture. Social stratification is something that I have seen in society, but did not know the word for it. I believe that to successfully manage a business, you need to have a workplace that embraces different cultures, as different cultures bring new ways of thinking. The idea of understanding different cultures and embracing new ideas is always interesting to me. I grew up in America but due to my background, I've been exposed to many culture practices that are different than most here. It's important to embrace these differences because it gives a better understanding of people around us and ideas could be shared. It's interesting to see what influences culture and how different things such as religion or language or social structure impact the cultural background of each person. Also, it's important to know what is appropriate and not appropriate when doing business. For example, in my family, and most Uzbek backgrounds, it's rude for someone to show you the bottom of their shoe while sitting but that's not a common idea here.

Language, manners, and attitudes are examples of cultural topics. Something I found fascinating is that different times set for meetings mean different things in different parts of the world. In Japan, arriving a minute after the scheduled time is considered late, whereas if you follow Moroccan time, you can arrive anywhere from an hour to a whole day later. There are 24 different words in the inuit (eskimos) language that help identify the type of snow.

To answer the question from the end of the video: what element of culture is most interesting to me. I found social structure as a bit of a shocker. I never thought it would be an element of culture, though it does make sense after hearing it well explained. Once I analyzed the concept and visualized it, it became clear how social structure is an element of culture. When born or raised in a wealthy family, people usually emerge in an "uppity" culture. Whether they know it or not, those people tend to act in a way that is much different from someone who comes from an opposite background. Overall, this video was very informative and helpful. It made me aware of just how complex culture is. I also found it very interesting that the language of the Inuit (Eskimos) has 24 different words to describe snow. This video did a great job explaining how important it is to understand other cultures, especially when going to foreign lands. It can help create a better experience and lessen safety concerns when traveling.

I was reminded of a video the Cleveland Clinic made about empathy. The video shows individuals in a hospital passing each other in the halls, riding the same elevator, and communicating with each other. Each individual, however, is encountering something different in his life. One is going to see a new-born baby while the other is anticipating the death of a loved one. There are some that are anxiously waiting for a surgery while others are celebrating a successful surgery. Some experience pain while others have recently been cured of their pain. Being aware that others will most likely have a different perspective will help one understand and communicate with others better.

In leading different employees, I have learned that everyone I have came across believe and do things differently. In listening and trying to understand their underlying problems from people that have came from different walks of life, it is easier to understand what they believe or are feeling. I grew up in Costa Rica. It is very interesting to think of culture as an iceberg, because there is so much that wasn't spoken and just implied through the way people act. I lived there for 10 years, and it wasn't until we came back to the states that I realized that there is a lot of problems with racism in Costa Rica.
