I can only feel your pain mate, having gone through a full engine failure on my S54. But seems like the damage may not be catastrophic, and you're in the right hands! 🏁
We feel ur pain, Joe! Almost had a sigh of relief until u came to cylinder 3..hope the resultant damage is not going to be too painful. We need Russ & Tim as a regular feature please...that was a great ummm..."entrance" 😂
Just when I think your content can’t level up Joe - you go an bang out a video like this. Genuine / honest / all out content - informative and insightful Great to see some progress for you 👍 Onward and upward chappy
What a brilliant video Joe. I mean can’t wait for the next episode and I’m so happy you kept it in-depth and didn’t trim it down. This is fascinating to watch really is thank you. At the same time I hope it’s not an expensive repair in the end. The Swift Performance boys are epic too.
Nicely thought through detailed checks. Can feel a new set of pistons and conrods coming on if no damage to crank. If Joe gets away with that it will be a good result. Fingers crossed.
Was kinda dreading this update Joe owning an M2C myself so wanted a fairytail ending. But could be loads worse and its great hands there. Like they said everything is repairable. 👍
From the testimonies I’ve read, most people come away lucky with crank hub slippage. It’s rare that it actually ruins the engine. That being said, I’ll be getting a crank hub kit installed as soon as I pay off my M3.
this isn't about crank hub slippage its about using a low gear while going too fast and mechanically over revving the engine floating the valves etc, the hub slippage just adds to the issues but its from user error
Loved the video Joe. Sadly I've experienced a couple of engine failures in my time, but I can assure you when you are out the other end, it's an experience you can learn loads from and will no doubt develop your mechanical knowledge. Look forward to the next update!
The last time I buzzed a car, an M5, it was a lot more expensive , I rod let go and managed to get find a way out through the side of the block ! You are definitely having a grid day, loos like hopefully juts a top end rebuild and a few new valves ?
Owning a BMW gave me sleepless nights and empty pockets. My mechanic had warned me. I didn’t listen. Nightmare over I’m now with my preferred brand. Great video joe….you must be minted.
Im sorry Joe. I can feel your pain. I know how stressful it is, having lost an M2C with engine failure myself. I sure hope you can fix or recover your loss. All things considered, would you consider investing in a crankhub upgrade or remain stock in hindsight. Your opinion is golden.
Looking forward to the next couple of videos Joe. I hope your 'luck' with the engine so far holds out for the rest of the investigation, and the valve issue isn't too much of a biggie. Take care.
Good video! When you have it rebuilt for the love of god get a full pinned crank hub fix, don’t even bother with a capture plate, I think by the nature of your mis shift you were lucky as it completely spun the CH so it was free to spin, if you’d spun it on a normal down shift you’d be looking at a complete rebuild now, pistons, head the lot. Insane crank hub fix is the way or Gintani, from a fellow 680bhp M4 and S55 owner. 👌🏽
Hey Joe, I've got an m135i, the crank hub spun last month - think work was done before I got it and the crank bolt wasn't tightened up properly and came loose. All my exhaust valves were bent but the top end has been rebuilt and is perfect now so hopefully similar for you as I feared it could've been much worse!
Great shame you've probably bent an exhaust valve. Fingers crossed the piston survived, not to mentio con rods. Due to your intended use I suggest a full strip down and full inspection. Look forward to next update.
Gutted this has happened bud, the money shift is always a simple mis-shift away in a manual. Never nice but I still love a manual car 🙌🔥✅ Hope you get this sorted soon bud. 😊
So looking like bent exhaust valves on number 3. Lets home there's no major damge to the top of the piston. Get that crank hub mod done Joe when it's all done. Good luck mate.
Joe I was fully hoping that you had gotten away with it - lets just hope that the valves in cylinder 3 are the only issue! Thanks for jaking us on the jouney Mate - as a F82CP owner (with DCT hopefully?), super interested in this series. Question, whilst she is apart - going to do the crank hub?
Great video, nice to take something positive from the ordeal. Hopefully a cylinder 3 exhaust valve, piston and a set of rod bearings and you’re back in action.
Good news that you haven’t lunched the whole motor. Fingers crossed that the damage is no more than a bent valve or two. When it’s fixed, please just change that shifter. The shift gate looked far too compact so a mis-shift just had to happen at sometime.
Great Vid and welcome to the club. Didn't the guys check the flywheel indicator ? That is a more easy way of determining weather timing is off and how much it is off. Bummer, I was just lucky with ca 1.5degrees indicating (from calculations) that there could not have been any contact. Honestly cannot believe it is only one (with an engine running ca 100 revs per second at 6000rpm they should all be damaged/contacted). I would expect all valves to have touched, which is sad but great as well --> stage 3 engine with forged cross drilled crank, carillo rods, omega pistons and some oil gallery improvements -->8500rpm tralalala fuel to noise converter.
This seems like a pretty strong endorsement for the stock BMW crank hub being a good design instead of a flaw that a lot of people seem to believe it is
@@Nyx_88888 In the video it is mentioned that the timing chain stopped moving after the incident, that indicates that the crank hub lost friction with the crank
The issue i believe is when different stages are upgraded on the main board & the mechanical parts cant handle it.. lesson is dont upgrade as you dont need too 👍🏻 the 3ltr straight 6 is fast enough for the box standard parts right ?
I just had a similar issue with my F80 Comp 6 speed. Skipped 3 teeth. The dealer retimed it and torqued everything down at a cost of $4k. Supposedly, I have no permanent damage. Did you consider doing the full crank hub aftermarket repair? Sounds like you have a bent valve.
Great content to watch and definitely educational. I’m just sorry you are having to make a “M2 Club Sport rebuild” video series in the first place! Good luck!
Maybe it could identify as an Audi Quattro and then five cylinders would be perfect 😂 Great to see you've got your humour back mate and hopefully you've been fortunate 👍
I've done this same process in my garage for my car! Mine was due to oil starvation. Locked the camshaft. Replaced them with schrick cams and Pure turbo while I was in there.
@lauriebrooking2429 With auto rev matching enabled wonder what difference that would make? You could still put it in a lower gear and drop the clutch though
its mechanical if you engage a low gear and it revs too high to will break something bc it spins too fast, crank hub spinning, no crank hub spinning it over revs the engine, its called a money shift and it is a risk with every manual, nothing electronic can stop this
