I worked as a government financial analyst and even though I had zero experience when I first started, once I got the basics mastered, I quickly grew into someone who could think of immediate solutions to very complex problems. Some things take time to understand but eventually it becomes much easier and you grow into becoming an authority in that area.
@@rayhana9259 right now in the Google Data Analytics program Excel, R, Tableau, and SQL are covered. When I worked as a financial analyst, I used Excel daily and Crystal Reports for extracting data and running queries. I also used a few customized data bases where I could build a canned script to pull information like employee salary increases. So most of my learning has been on the job.
@@hrthjfr , Excel and Power Point more than anything. I also produced lengthy reports in Word where many tables, charts, and graphs were included. I also used Crystal Reports to extract data from a mainframe data base.
I'm 16 and i am an aspiring data analyst. This video really opened my thoughts about data analytics, i'll comeback to this comment when i finally became a data analyst CHEERS❤️✨️
Hey, thanks for the comment! It's super impressive that you're so determined at such a young age. We wish you the best of luck and hope to see another comment once you find a job as a junior data analyst!
Sometimes explaining and reading the guidelines of a career sounds alot more complicated than it really is. I'm an accoutant and I can explain in detail what I do, but really it's just make sure everything is accurate while taking into consideration other factors. I could easily transition to a data analyst or for my case, a financial analyst.
@@omarioBOSboy01 I'm an accountant as well, for the past 8 years and can definitely agree with @fineth9319. I have been anywhere between a full-cycle accountant all the way up to a financial analyst for corporate companies, and in line with @fineth9319: most people make it seem like it's complicated and like a very serious working environment, from job descriptions to what social media, tv shows and other people assume accountants are, (serious people in front of computers in cubicles, you can hear a pin drop for how quiet it is, etc.), or encounters people have had with some, but it's nothing far than what it really is for the majority in that profession. The jist of it is as simple as: knowing how to add and subtract, making sure reports and data is accurate (being analytical), data entry, manipulating data and other things. Depending on where you live, you can make good money, especially in major cities, like Miami, New York and Los Angeles in the United States.
The video actually gives a great insight on been a data analyst and makes you double check yourself if you are actually fit and ready to dive in the carrier path. I think am ready to go
Thank you so much! What is Data Analysis? Taking raw data companies collect, cleaning, organizing, & creating a story using that raw data Use Cases - Predict future sales or purchasing behavior - Help & protect against fraud - Analyze the effectiveness of marketing campaigns - Boost customer acquisition & retention - Increase supply chain efficiency Day to day - manage delivery of user satisfaction surveys & report on results using data visualization software - Work with business line owners to develop requirements, define success metrics, manage & execute a analytical projects, & evaluate results - Monitor practices, processes, & systems to identify opportunities for improvement - Translate important questions into concrete analytical tasks - Gather new data to answer client questions, collating & organizing data from multiple sources - Design, build, tear & maintain backend code - Establish data processes, define data quality criteria, & implement data quality processes - Work as part of a team to evaluate & analyze key data that will be used to shape future business strategies 5 main steps - Define the questions you want to answer - Why you’re conducting this analysis & what questions & answers you need to find - Then define what data you need & where it will come from - Collect data - Primary sources or internal data like CRM software or email marketing tools - I.e. Google trends or international orgs like WHO - Clean the data - Data may include duplicates, anomalies, & missing data - Can be manual & arduous but imperative - Analyze the data - Regression analysis, cluster analysis, time series analysis, etc. - Interpret & share results - Present findings in a way that others can understand & collaborate with key stakeholders Skills - mathematical & statistical - Programming languages - Analytical mindset - Keen problem solving skills - Excellent communication skills
I have just got an offer about Data Analyst job vacancy and I had to check it out first, coz I've only been in a call center industry taking calls but no idea of becoming a data analyst,so this video is really helpful way to jump off to a new career direction...
Have you made the jump because I'm literally in the same boat you are, or at least when you made this comment. I work at a call center too but recently I've been thinking about becoming a Data Analyst
@@dionteoneal386 nice to meet you! I'm doing great! Just quit my job last week, starting a new one tomorrow, it'll allow me to focus more on getting ready for data analysis courses. I'm excited.
I am a Maintenance Technician working for one of the worlds largest retailers, I want to become Data Analyst, I feel with my experience, and analytical mind I can do this very well, I am very interested in pursuing this.
This was such a good straight to the point video. I'm currently enrolled in a MBA course and I have to confirm my concentration. I was sold on Entrepreneurship and Innovation, but since looking over Data Analytics and listening to you, I think I'm sold. Thanks for this video.
Thanks Otis! We're glad our content resonated with you! Data analytics is such a great career to go into, if you'd like to get a flavour of the profession, here's the link to our free 5-day data analytics short course: bit.ly/Become_A_Data_Analyst Best of luck and hope you enjoy it!
@@kickboxer2149 I just finished with a simulation course that was really good. I'm not sure what I have next, and I will be taking some software classes soon.
@@otisrobertson3086 Nice! Don’e any SQL? I finish with my MBA-Data Analytics this august! I think you made a much better decision to switch to the analytics route. how long till you’re finished?
Thank you kindly for demystifying data analytics, without going into all the fluff. You saved me 6 months of studying. There are many enigmatic videos out there in the sea of data that is so long winded and convoluted.
I’m improving my communication skill first then my problem solving, I’ll improve my technical skills at last. I’m struggling to express myself by speaking and writing, I wish I’m born intelligent just like you
Apologies for the late reply, but I’ve got some tips that might help you out. - Adjust your speed. By changing how quickly you speak, you will force yourself to think about what you are saying and how you are saying it. This can lead to clearer speech - in grammar, organization, and pronunciation. - Observe speakers and writers you enjoy. You don’t need to copy their style, but by learning what you like, you can develop your own style. - Prepare, but don’t overdo it. Not everything needs a pre-written speech, but bulletpoints on what you need to address can be extremely helpful. - Record yourself and/or get feedback from others. The best way to know how you are doing is to get direct feedback. Recordings are great because you can see exactly what you want to adjust, but bystanders are just as valuable. - Listen and read. The opposites of speaking and writing are important, too. They help you learn what works, what doesn’t, and how to respond appropriately. - Know your strengths. You likely already have default ways of presenting and writing. These can be used to your advantage. Me? I’ve got a deeper voice, a laid-back demeanor, and direct manner of speaking, so I try to come across as knowledgeable, calm, and somewhat humorous/ironic. I know being extremely energetic or the funniest guy in the room won’t work for me, so I don’t do those things. - Be patient. Getting better at any form of communication takes a long time. Still, it can be done. Just practice and don’t be too hard on yourself. - Practice. You won’t get better without it. Hope this helps, A professional writer and former teacher with a Bachelors in Communications specializing in PR.
Currently working on getting a certificate in data analytics though the Meta company, and this video was a great introduction to the subject matter, thank you!
Hi! Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Here's the link to our free 5-day data analytics short course: bit.ly/Become_A_Data_Analyst Best of luck and hope you enjoy it!
Thank you I really needed this and it was really helpful on my quest to become a data analyst. Right now all I have is knowledge of Python and SQL and I know its not going to be an easy journey but thanks to you I'm looking forward to it. Thank you for answering my questions again.
Regarding the sample question/problem “Customers are not subscribing to a paid membership once the trial ends”: what type of data would you use to answer that problem? Haven’t got an idea which type of data would help to answer that/ if there is any kind of data that tells why they don’t subscribe. Thanks for your help!
Very well said. Im a data analyst in a call center company. This is very legit. But don’t get too woried about what are tou going to do being a data analyst you have to be creative and it depends on what clients or your boss wants to see, just do it. Don’t get tired improving your skills in MS office power bi etc.
Man Im from Viet Nam and this is a very useful video for me because I can learn English and also learn many knowledge from DA because of this video, thank you so much for sharing this video. The foreign peoples like me always need more vid like this to improve our skill
CareerFoundry is definitely an awesome platform. I only have one suggestion to make. Since Statistics and a little bit of Mathematics is very key in data analytics, I am suggesting you to provide a course on Maths and Stats for data analytics. How do you see it?
This is insightful and I love how you made us see at the end of the presentation that you aren’t perfect and that you made mistakes at some point too 👍👍👍
hey, I really like your video. I am 19 years old, living in Canada on a student visa and I have no experience with any programming language like Python, etc. And I am thinking forward to making my career in Data Analytics, by taking the first step as a Google certificate course ( Data Analytics ). So my question is before taking the course should I learn Python language first? I really appreciate it if you give me the answer to my Question. Thank You, sir
Thanks for the overview! I want to transition into data and the 5 day program sounds like a good start. I’d like the 5 day program and also to know what it entails please and thank you.
Hey Danford, we also have a top blog with loads of data related articles if you want more information: careerfoundry.com/en/blog/data-analytics/ We recommend checking this out! Thanks for taking the time to comment too!
hi. you mentioned that that some of the tools a data analyst uses are programs like excel and python and other language programs. Are these a prerequisite in some level or another, or can someone jump into the field of a data analyst with prior knowledge/experience in these programs and learn these on the go?
Well explained! Well done. I admire your great presentation skills. I didn't hear you mention data integration (a majour stage in data warehousing) Is it that data analyst role has nothing to do with it? Please clarify me. Thanks
I have a bachelors degree in Arts and I think I’m interested in becoming one I wanted to ask that if you Get the certification online like from Google is there a guarantee of hire after completing the certification. And also your video made it easier to understand, however its sounds easy and hard at the same time .
No, you are the one designing the AI or algorithms based on your parameters. That's why you're needed. To decide how AI/algorithms to analyse that data.
Having read through some of the Job requirements they tend to request computer science degree Maths or Physics. This is just for the Junior Data Analysts so what kind of qualification will be acquired upon completion of both the first part of the course and upon pursuing a full training course as Data Analyst?
Currently enrolled in the MBA program for data analytics. At my company i sat with a data analyst. He was basically coding using R while another rep on the team used Tableu. Ill admit R looked pretty imtimidating and i have no background in that area. However he did say he had zero experience and he just had to work and play around to gain the knowledge and experience. Thats the only thing that worries. However in my current im very logical, methodical, and analytical. I love looking at information and making charts etc. MY boss reconmmened to a system business analyst and grow my skills aroudn that. Is their anything else should I be doing? I currently want to do soemthing that will make me happy.
Hey Ijeoma, it's a tool or piece of software that can represent your complex data in graphs or charts or animations. To make it more easily digestible to an audience.
This was indeed a good explanation! For anyone who wants to know the gist of Data Analytics, I think this is really nice. I have also recently started covering hacks used in Analytics on a day-to-day basis. Make sure to check that out too.. Cheers!
With someone with little. Idea in mathematics and statistic will it till be advisable for me to embark on such a journey even tho I have a strong passion for the course
Do you need to know as much math as a mathematician to know data analytics? I’m scared of higher level math! However, with lots of practice and studying I think I could get good at higher level math like calculus, linear algebra, and statistics, and I know you need these three for data analytics. It’s just more and more careers that used to not use data analytics now use it. I’m worried every career in the future will use data analytics, because a lot of people struggle with math.
I’m 30 and have been working in construction/concrete for about 12 years and really need a change. Been looking into this but have no idea where to start
Well I have no residual knowledge about this, but I am more than willing to learn bcos my life needs a turn around, yet to watch but looking at the number of likes and the positive comments here . ...I believe your piece is worthy of my like 👍👍👍. But can you be my personal tutor please....🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Add a few advance models, some statistical analysis, some DL training and evaluation with a little optimisation and you could be a Data Scientist... Build, deploy and maintained architecture and you are now a MLE.
Hi, I’m glad to see ur videos. I graduated in Mathematics and I’m forex trader. I need to do my MSc on data analysis. I need your help for what I need to look for please.!

Hello! There are actually a lot of Data Analytic boot camps/programs that you can take that offer financial plans and you can complete within 6 months for a certificate! I’m currently doing one at UC Davis. Check with your local/most interested school to see what works best for you.
Hi, I am curious about which learning you recommend to get the "Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate" or code academy "Business Intelligence Data Analyst".
