Demand for online learning in higher ed is strong, robust, and trending upwards. Needing a "disaster ready" skill set for instruction in higher ed. and K12 is another reason 100% of faculty should be equipped to be able to teach online well (and not just "muddle through"), but student demand for flexible learning options is the primary driver. When temporary disasters happen (e.g., climate-related weather events as an example), canceling classes with no digital backup of quality online instruction is no longer acceptable. Brick-and-mortar teaching spaces are no longer the default. Leveraging AI, mobile learning, and mobile-responsive learning platforms are the new norms and expectations for teaching and learning.
