Conventional angiography needs injection of a radiocontrast dye into a blood vessel prior to imaging by X-rays. What are the options for getting an angiogram without injecting a radiocontrast dye, as some of the adverse effects of the procedure are related to the dye. It may be noted that magnetic resonance angiography mentioned in the discussion also uses a contrast agent when needed, to enhance visualization. Carbon dioxide angiography uses only carbon dioxide which dissolves in blood and disappears soon.
