Jonathan is exploring through the Nordic country, Finland. On his road trip, he'll bounce around Helsinki, and then makes his way all the way up north to near the Arctic circle, in the town of Oulu and beyond. During his trip, he comes across a Finnish sensation. Something from Latin America.. Tango. Specifically, Argentine tango! How did the shy, reserved Finns embrace this spicy dance style? Watch to find out!
Kiitos!

Many people might not know this, but Argentina was the first country outside of Europe to recognize the Finnish independence. And even though they lie in opposite sides of the planet, they have very good relations even though the population doesn't know. Finland imported tango from Argentina and it is very likely that Finland is the biggest reason Metal grew in Argentina.

Regarding your last sentence, I am from Argentina and love LOVE several Finnish rock bands. For many years I thought that rock as I knew it was something of the past, but as I found more and more Finnish rock bands, it blew my mind! I hope one day travel to Finland and experience these bands live.

It was the other way around. Finnish immigrants brought "tango" to Argentina. According to Bock Saga...

Finnish tango is incredibly interesting because it evolved from the Argentine tango into its own, unique offspring. It's not just a novelty but a real culture of its own, sort of how you'd see rap evolve into both hip hop and later grime in the UK or how metal would breed multiple different variants from the Norwegian black metal and the Latin-influenced sound of Sepultura to the various American styles of metal. And a lot of these comments are wrong, the culture is very much alive: sure, the target audience is generally older but watch, it'll be in fashion soon again Also, I've studied Finnish popular music very extensively (basically everything I could get my hands on) and it's amazing how much hidden Latin-influence a lot of our music has, not necessarily rhythmically but undeniably so melodically. There's a variety of reasons for that, including the early influx of Italian pop to both Finland and Russia (which shares many characteristics with the Spanish music, which obviously made its way to Latin America), the aforementioned migration of tango culture from Argentina to Finland as well as the strong influence of romani music in Finnish and Russian music tradition. I was very obsessed about this subject at one point and studied everything I could get my hands on because it's rarely talked about yet it's there when you start listening. As a side mention, it's funny how similar North & East European music sometimes is to Mexican music, there are a lot of Mexican songs that share undeniable similarities with German, Russian and Balkan musical traditions

I wish someone would make a documentary of Finland that didn't show a bunch of old people dancing in a field while eating Karelian pies. Show the university culture, the numerous festivals for art and music, show the motorsports, or sports in general. This part of Finland, where people dress up to go square dancing around the town well is pretty much dead, and not representative of what Finland currently looks like, and certainly not what it will look like a decade or two in the future. A lot less tango (I know a lot of people, and literally 0 people under the age of 60 who dance tango) and a lot more rap, metal and punk. And it's about damn time.

It's not boomer culture. It's OUR culture, don't let it die just because you think it's the older generations thing.

Old comment but lol - nope. You learn to dance those older dances at school in Finland so there is always some people who will go on with it. Those who go to high school will have a literal ball when they become seniors. So they learn all sorts of old ballroom dances. Of course some won't care - but it's always like that.

Dancing well is always a key to a lady's heart, in Finland and anywhere! Teach it and learn it! Good for everybody!
