My favorite moment with the Gegenpress in action was watching Liverpool play Manchester City in 2018. City had a halftime lead in the middle of their 100-point season, and suddenly in the second half, Klopp makes a "swarm, swarm" gesture like some bad cop movie, and Liverpool scores three goals in ten minutes.

That was a great moment and a fantastic game! Just one thing though: City never lead in the game - It was 1-0 to LFC, City equalised in the 40th minute, then in the 2nd half, as you mentioned, LFC stormed to 4-1 (before City pegged us back to 4-3 late on)

When the squad isn't routinely changed players get tired and wear out after a few seasons. Squad depth is key to maintain the pressing intensity.

@@Nansy_absolutely agree with you. This is why I think they'll be able to challenge for the title again if they add like two more midfield signings to Mac Allister. Their midfield just couldn't handle the rigorous demands of gegen pressing, which made them resort to long balls this season

This style is also often refered to Red Bull football, because that's the main way players in their system are drilled even from a young age. This system and the Red Bull academies have "produced" players like Sadio Mane, Karim Adayemi, Szoboslai, Kampl, Sabitzer, Laimer, Lainer, Xaver Schlager, Seiwald, Kristensen, Dedic and many MANY more.

I believe tiki taka is the solution to gegen pressing. You need quick footed players with good agility to break the press. Tiki taka works against Gegen pressing

No. The most effective way to play against Gegenpressing is what we see nowadays with "Zielspieler" - target players. Physically strong and tall players who can recieve and hold long and hogh passes and then either beat the defender in a 1v1 or buy enough time for a teammate to arrive.

Even though Gegenpress showed success under Klopp, it is not a sustainable way to play footy. You can see players get burned out after 4-5 years in this system.

Well, Klopp has won every trophy with Liverpool using this style of play. Only manager to counteract Pep's tiki taka in the PL. Better than playing that counter attacking rubbish other managers are using.

Klopp's Dortmund did and curiously did better than a lot of clubs against Barcelona. But you're right. Tiki Taka is the perfect way of counter attacking gegenpressing. That's why Pep try to implement both systems in transitions to make the perfect team
