Jinjer is to metal what NF is to rap. Jinjer has no idea how to write a bad song. Since you are new to Jinjer...from Tatianas interviews the band writes all the music. She has nothing to do with the music...isn't in the sessions at all and has no idea what they came up with. When they are completely done she puts her lyrics to the music . Crazy way of doing it but it works for them. And yes ... the drummer is on another level!!!

For someone who doesn't like harsh vocals, I would definitely suggest Perennial live at Wacken. It does have some growling but it's a beautiful song about seasonal depression. You get to see her amazing stage presence as well.

I'm an old prog rock/prog metal guy and Jinjer is one of the few bands to really get me excited in the last 20 years. For me, they are on a par with early Pink Floyd. They have the same playful disregard for the rules yet make deep, compelling music. Almost everything they make is rich and satisfying. Tatiana converted me from having a lukewarm acceptance of extreme vocals to a real appreciation of the art. This band literally changed my mind. Also their music helped me through some serious illness, for which I am very grateful. I strongly suggest that you listen to Wallflower OMV, with the lyrics at hand. It's very personal and revealing - Tatiana really bares her soul in it. Fantastic music, beautiful video.

The line about childhood suffering references another song they did about a friend of Eugene's that had a bad childhood called "Dreadful Moments" - Tatiana is saying that they didn't have that growing up, instead, their parents were loving and supportive of them. The song is a love letter to their parents who they have been estranged from because of war, written to them before they don't have a chance to give thanks to them.

You would have thought she'd understand the lyrics being that Jinjer is from Donetsk Ukraine which has been wartorn LONG before Putin. Also thinking that some other person (WHAT?) wrote the lyrics? It's Russian, not Ukrainian. She and Eugene (bass) are from the Donetsk region (the area Russia is trying to capture). A few years ago a television host tried to accuse her of being a Soviet sympathizer. She wrote the song "Disclosure!" as an answer. When Jinjer first started touring, they toured east Europe a lot with another band called Infected Rain. Infected Rain also has a female vocalist who growls. Her stage name is Lena Scissorhands. They played at Wacken this year. They're worth checking out too.

Awesome that you checked this out. A bit of background on this video, 2019 was a huge year for the band, and they usually release a video with lots of concert footage in the spring to get people hyped for their coming years' concerts, and this was that video for 2020 - of course we all know how 2020 went for everyone in the music industry. The original song which was a homage to their parents who for Tatiana, Eugene, and Roman are on the other side of the battle lines in the war with Russia while they left when things started so they could continue their careers. The video takes that idea and expands it to the found family of the band and crew, and the extended family of their fans. I'd add that they have very working-class families and Tatiana's parents were far from wealthy her father a coal miner (which I remember because of No Hoard Of Value about coal miners) and don't remember her mom's career, maybe an accountant or secretary, something like that. And especially growing up in the aftermath of the collapse of the Soviet Union they didn't have a lot of money. But at the same time they tried to give opportunities, including some singing lessons as a kid, and later a tattoo gun and her mom even let her try on her own back.

Loving your take and interpretation of Jinjer and for the most part pretty spot on.For four years I’ve been a Jinjer fan and not a big harsh vocals fan but this band is so different they will draw you in and before you know it you are over the shock and enjoying their overall talent.Hoping you continue and you must see a live video performance of them.A few favorites are Pit of Consciousness live Kiev 2019 and Judgement and Punishment live Melbourne which the later has more clean vocals and POC a much heavier song.Wallflower OMV is about Tatiana’s introvert nature and how she relates to the band and the pressures of writing song lyrics. She tends to procrastinate and the guys get antsy and the song is overall mild by Jinjer standards.Truly appreciate what you do a lot and thanks you’re amazing

lol, they threw you straight into the deep end with these - probably not the best route for someone who doesn't generally enjoy harsher vocals. I tell people that metal is like whiskey - some people like it right away, but for most it's harsh at first and you have to take the time to develop a taste for it, but if you do you'll eventually be able to enjoy it and pick it apart like a fine wine.

This is a metal love song to beloved parents separated by touring schedules, politics and war. Tatiana is a very good lyricist besides being a vocal goddess. To appreciate her lyrics, react to "Perennial live at Wacken". To appreciate her singing, react to "Judgement and Punishment" (One take vocal performance). To appreciate just how good the band is, react to "Who is Gonna be the One" (Live, Napalm Records). Good reaction. (Subbed)

Vlad, the drummer, is a classically trained pianist. He has no problem changing time signatures and has a big role in writing the music with the other two guys. Then, they hand the music to Tati to write the lyrics. Their song "Wallflower" exposes Tati's resistance to being pressured to finish writing the lyrics under a timeline, as she is a self-confessed procrastinator.

The line “childhood of misery is lifelong injury…” is referencing a line from a previous song (Dreadful moments) which goes “Childhood of misery is life long injury, a burden hidden by the curtain of years, a trauma that could not be healed”. Which is about (I believe) a friend of the bass player who was abused as a kid. So in this song she clarifies that this was not her experience “what I’ve always had, fathers love and mothers hand”

It's Jinjer time and I will always be here for that. So my second video with you and this band changed my life I'm a black male metal head have been my whole life. But this band is special next level stuff if the pandemic had not taken hold I truly believe they would have taken the whole world by storm . They are still touring as a anti war protest but it's always about the music and the message and most of their music has a great message to send. I have not heard anything that I don't like. I just like some stuff more than others. As you listen you will be able to understand it more but that's due to her diction and the fact that her english is very good. She doesn't always know the slang or the proper translation but it's all good in the end. Peace from Stan the Alaskan and I'm going to subb.

I'm really glad you're making a serious effort at this music. Most people who aren't already metal heads give it a listen, say "That's not for me" and move on. But listening to any music is like reading poetry: it takes some time and effort to feel the rhythms, learn the tropes, reach for the emotions, grasp at an understanding and, finally, learn appreciation. My own effort to understand metal has led me to conclude that the genius of modern music now resides there. That's not to say that there isn't bad metal out there, some of it is atrocious. And some modern pop is glorious. But I think I have learned the best metal is the best music.

She does have loving parents but many around them growing up didn't. Life is hard where they lived (even harder now) and she rarely sees her family. They had to flee Eastern Ukraine at one point and the band has had to struggle probably more than most to get where they are. They started playing constantly to eek out a living and now that they are at the level they are they are still touring pretty much constantly. Because of that they are exceptional live. That line was in that song, and the song was about child abuse. A lot of people thought she was talking about her childhood, but she wasn't. One Thing you often mention along this "Metal" Categorizing is, that not only the Music but the Fans have to be dark thinking Devil Lovers. (overformulated for sure from my Side:D) Let me tell you my Perspective. The most relaxed and thoughhtfull Humans i know, are all Metalheads. And this goes through all Layers of Society. Like one Wacken Lady, who rents Rooms for the Festival once said: i see the Porsches and Ferraris coming in, Suits and Dresses, then they go to their Rooms, and back comes black Leather , Sunglasses and Backpack with stickers and sleevless Bandjackets, all tiered down as they were 100 Years old(the Jackets:D). Its no Coincedence for me, that Metal is used to some Degree for Stress and Depressions Treatment. so, short said, just do an Nightwish recap:) but dont spare Jinjer, if it somehow does Haunt you positively:) Curious for all the other Bands you mentioned in Pisces Vid. Wow. going from Pisces and directly to Retrospection sure is a bold move for someone not usually into metal. I usually recommend doing Who is Gonna be the One and then Pernnial before going into the heavier stuff.

By the way the female frontend metal band is a huge rabbit hole. Enjoy your time and I will be here for it

Recommendations for the "world tour": Germany: Electric Callboy - We Got the Moves Sweden: Diablo Swing Orchestra - Superhero Jagganath They both show interesting song writing and composition in their own different way. And both should bring entirely new things for you musically.

This is a great reaction, subbed for some more Jinjer.

For amazing lyrical content, check out "Teacher, Teacher," "Home Back," and "Wallflower." You can't really go wrong with any of their songs lyrically, but those are my favorites. Great reaction!

Also consider that Jinjer were forced to leave their home in Donetsk in 2014 and relocate in Kyiv due to Russia taking territory even back then; and that can feed some of the lyrics about going home.

Rosalie, if you ever do more Jinjer, I'd recommend Wallflower, from Wallflowers. It's much more clean, a really cool song, a really cool video, and what growls there are, are _much_ more motivated by the flow of the song and make tons of sense.

You have to watch some live performances. They are just as good, if not better, live. I would start with Perennial live from Wacken.

Vlad the drummer used to be a concert pianist. A really good one. He picked up drumming out of necessity. He is like the 3rd or 4th dummer the band has had. In fact none of them are original members. They can't even tell you why the name of the band is Jinjer. MORE JINJER!!!!

You didn't ask how she does it. Imagine you come home after three weeks and you forgot to empty the trash. The whole apartment stinks and the flies are buzzing in the kitchen. If you then groan from the bottom of your heart, then you have the basic tone. Then you have to use the esophagus as a sound box, like guys do when they burp. Now you need air and whisper. Then you have it. Don't use your vocal cords or you'll have to see a doctor.

This song has a duality in meaning. It is equal parts homesick from touring, and homesick because at the time it was written the band were essentially refugees from their own homes, not able to return over fears they would be arrested for their views in some of their other sins

The song that complements this is "Home Back", which is a response to the Russian invasion of Donetsk in 2014. Very intense, but worth it. The start of "Retrospection" sound like a Ukrainian/Russian folksong. She was singing in Russian, which is predominent in areas of eastern Ukraine.

I highly recommend checking out Ramstein(spelling) probably one of the only groups I can honestly say you have to watch both the official music video and the official live performance for all of their songs. #Suggestion 😋

I would definitely recommend their song "wallflower" next for you! A lighter, easier going song with less growls and a very interesting video and lyrics.

I also recommend you to listen to "Perennial live at Wacken". It's an ode to the season changes, personified in a woman. I love also "Wallflower (Official Video)". It's about feelings during the lockdown. Feelings that are still hurting. That video it's such a beautiful piece of art

I am not at all a fan of this vocal style unless Tatiana is doing it. She is an incredibly talented vocalist and coupled with the song arrangements and musicianship of the band I find their music fascinating and love listening to them. Like many, my first experience with them was watching "Pisces" and I must admit I had to force myself to watch it until the end. I just literally didn't know what to think at first, but love it or hate it you have to admit this takes an incredible amount of talent and is therefore worthy of respect. Really changed my outlook. I will be seeing them live in November and am absolutely thrilled about it. Love your reactions, hope you'll do more Jinjer and Nightwish!
