What sucks about the Eminem situation is that when he was coming up, him being white was such a disadvantage and almost kept him from even just making it but now that he made it they say that he is only Eminem because he is white. I understand He himself admits that he only sold what he sold because he was white but lets not forget the extra shit he had to go through because of it. Rakim said himself even if Eminem was black he would still be one of the greatest lyricist of all time.

To be fair though, look at how any white rappers there have been who haven't sold even close to his numbers. I hate the excuse "it's because he's white." Why wasn't Paul Wall selling like that? Why wasn't mgk selling like that? Why wasn't beastie boys selling like that? If it's only because he's white then every other white rapper shouldve been putting up those numbers. Where's Bubba Sparxx on that list? Not even close. Because Em is on another level. That's why he sells. Not because his race.

To am extent I agree. But anyone alive back then knows we were seeing tupac murals being painted in Brazil and other places around the globe before that. He definetly did go global, but I wouldn't say he was the first one to do it. Tupac definetly was known worldwide at that point. I might be leaving others out but that's one I know for sure I saw murals painted of him around the globe by that point.
@gagereed486
@gagereed486 Год назад
@@anothergamingchannel2656 being known, and having Eminem levels of fame, across the globe are two different levels. I like/respect Pac. If anyone didn’t I’d question their hip hop knowledge. To be fair, Eminem has been around a lot longer. But also being fair, his global fan base is by far #1 when it comes to rap. I think it’s more than fair to say that Eminem might not have been able to do that if Pac didn’t do what he did first
@anothergamingchannel2656
@anothergamingchannel2656 Год назад
@@gagereed486 eminem has been around longer?... 🤔 funny I remember seeing those murals before em ever hit mainstream. And if people heard of tupac, you don't think they heard hip-hop? Only difference is pac died before he got to enjoy that level. Eminem was the first to live to see it. And for the record eminem is my favorite rapper. But I'm just trying to be real according to how I saw it. Tupac was known globally for his music, which was hiphop. Idk if this is what you mean but eminem might be one of the first to be able to perform globally, but tupac definitely was known worldwide before that. Maybe em was the 1st you heard of, but being alive after tupac died, he definetly had a worldwide impact with his music.
@gagereed486
@gagereed486 Год назад
@@anothergamingchannel2656 yes… pac died. Eminem didn’t. He’s been rapping a lot longer than Tupac. He’s had more time. I wasn’t talking about who existed first, therefore “being around longer”. No need to be snarky simply because you misunderstood something lmao.

Stevie I’m a 59 year old white dude from Texas so as you might imagine rap is not my thing, although we loved the Sugarhill Gang in the late 70s. When I first heard of Eminem I figured he was successful only because he was white in an arena dominated and started on the streets in black communities, but hearing guys like you and some others say how really great he is was eye opening. That was a great story, and the balls he had to go in there and battle rap, in Detroit, well damn I can’t even imagine. Thanks for your show and the content, I always enjoy seeing things from others perspectives and it helps me to try and understand although I know I can never really understand. God Bless!

Maybe it's because Im from north UK and we only had 2 families who were non white in my village, but it was never a thing to me, it was like someone who has different coloured hair, never crossed my mind. Mad how much it matters to some folk.

I mean, if I think about it back then… I was in high school when Em hit in 99. The biggest white rapper I knew about prior to that was vanilla ice. That’s it. And that really wasn’t all that long ago because he was in the early 90s. His stuff was catchy, but by no means, was it all that interesting to listen to. Not lyricly, not intellectually… Certainly was more pop than hip-hop almost. I’m sure there are plenty of other rappers that came up in between that just kind of missed the mark in mainstream, so it was no surprise when no one took Em seriously. I’ve learned a lot from watching this channel about his background, and how we came up, as well as others. It still amazes me to this day, putting in context, how he managed to breakthrough given all that was going on. What is talent is second to none. There has never been or will never be someone like him before or after.

Skinnyman handled it well... he beat him in a battle. Skinnyman is a legend. His album, Council Estate Of Mind, is a classic. He got ripped off and did not make a penny off the album.

Don’t sleep on B. He’s a legend in the D. Don’t let that D-12 character he played confuse you.

In many biographies of genius.. I hear a similar story about their prolific nature. Their secret is no great secret.. they are just constantly working on their craft. Michaelangelo only finished ten percent of the work he started. Keep making shit. Don't stop. What hits hits, what doesn't doesn't.. keep moving, keep firing...

10:24 The ironic part is that whenever a black person got into metal, the metal heads were like. "Oh, that's some cool shit". I mean, Ice-T and Body Count was some tough shit.
