Vince: I recently saw the wrench on my dash for the first time. I called Honda and was told that I can continue to drive for awhile before I have to have the oil changed. It's not as though you have to drive into the dealership for servicing right that minute. Depending on your trip length, you may be able to finish your trip and then have the car serviced when you return home. Even this audio tells you that it's not an immediate need until the dash says it's at 5%. I drove for a week at 15% before having the oil changed. The 15% was still on the dash a week later when I drove the vehicle in for servicing. It was not a problem at all. Honda was great about explaining the wrench and required service time, etc. Sometimes people forget to look at the sticker on the door or windshield that gives the approximate time to take the vehicle in for an oil change. The dash icons are the best way to obtain the driver's attention to maintenance issues. I think Honda has a good system of keeping us informed.

I have the 2015 Honda Accord Sport which I bought last year, Feb 2015 (almost a year now). I've only driven my car only for about 3,500 miles. It's rarely used because I have other cars that I use for work. Maintenance minder for Oil life suppose to be measured as shown in the video but I was told by the service advisor that it is also depends on how you use the car. In my case the vehicle is rarely used so they told me to bring the car for oil change every six months if I only keep the vehicle on the garage and if I don't use it regularly. Well I did bring my car after 6 months of purchase and they changed the oil. I'm just sharing my experiences hope it helps.

The manual says if the MM wrench doesn't appear, do an OC once a year in any case. Sounds like the dealer is padding service here.

Thank you for the Maintenance Minder answers … I've been to both the Morgan Hill Honda Dealer (near my work) and the Capitol Expressway Honda Dealer (near my home) for maintenance and have had wonderful service each time. My daughter lives in Cotati, but I haven't been to the Petaluma dealer yet … Thanks for the head's up.

I replaced my own oil. There's no wrench light, but there is a B on the maintenance minder. I took my car to Honda Service and they told me the B was a reminder for when I have my next oil change. Should I continue to worry about this or take what they said at face value?

I have been replacing the oil and filter on my 2015 Accord Ex when the Oil Percentage reaches 40%, I rotate the tires every other oil and filter change and check all fluids periodically.....so far so good.

40%? So is that like replacing every 2 months or 9 weeks? You should do when 20% or less. My vehicle needs it every 4 months but different vehicles need it at different frequencies.

If you get free oil changes, i would get it changed at 5,000. The dealer also told me that you COULD change it at 5k if you wanted to so that your oil is good, and tires might also need to be rotated.

Never trust or rely on those minders. The best and safest way is to check your oil visually. Those nonsense minders are some times set to be triggered way earlier than the manufacturer's recommended interval by the the dealerships so that they can rip you off by having you changed oil and filter more frequently. This happened to me and I am telling every car owner to be aware of these balack wolves. I got ripped of in the car purchase in the first place and they continue to rip me off even later in the form of oil change.

I use Honda Pure Synthetic oil in my 2020 Passport Elite AWD (as well as my 2011 Honda Pilot EX-L AWD), at 15% oil reminder, I am well over 7,500 miles on the oil and that's when I usually get it changed.

I finally put my 1999 CRV to rest (in the driveway, It still runs great) because the car to driver door wiring started breaking (I fixed it 3 times) where it hinges. It controls the electronic door locks, door speaker, and window motor (can't live without that). It has 220456 mi on it and I changed the oil at least every 12000 miles mostly around 7000, It doesn't smoke burn oil. I bought a used 2006 CRV and It now has 119000 miles on it and keeps on going. I'm going to buy a new one someday.

I get the idea about the maintenance minder, but I am accustomed to having a written list of routine maintenance items that I need to attend to at certain intervals. I appreciate the reminder, but would also really like to have the list so I can see what is coming up. I can't seem to find it anywhere in the manual or online materials. Assistance anyone?

mossboston Common sense dictates that routine maintenance scheduling is a function of vehicle usage. That would be a combination of factors including mileage, trip length, vehicle speeds and terrain. Oil changes are anticipated so they never will come as a surprise. Read your manual!

I agree with those that want a printed maintenance schedule! I have a new 2015 CR-V. I have looked and asked high and low and can't find it. Nor can I find a Honda shop manual. 1) Some here mention that the first oil/filter change shouldn't be too long due to 'new' parts wearing in and metal pieces in the oil due to such. The maintenance minder doesn't seem to take that into account. 2) At about 8,500 I got a maintenance minder for tire rotation and AWD transmission fluid. My Honda maintenance shop said that can't be right, but they would check it out. I was gone for 2 weeks (not driving this car) and when I took it in the Maintenance Minder was not showing these items, it wasn't showing anything. The guy as the Honda shop said to take a picture of it next time, so is this a common occurrence? So like most technology, its not perfect. And because of that it sure would be nice to have that printed out service interval guide.

not at all. many maintenance operations can be done easily and at a fraction what dealers charge.by making it difficult to find info on maintenance, forces many people to visit dealer & basically be charged 120 / hr labor. and trust me mechanics at dealerships take their sweet time.

I made a list of pluses and minuses on several models before I bought, and this was definitely on the minus side. I find it kind of strange that I can't even find a Chilton or Haynes Repair manual on my Honda. While growing up I just 'figured' stuff out, but in the process also broke a few tabs and stuff like that. Later in life I have purchased the manufacture's service manuals and have found them worth the cost. The only thing I have found for my Honda was a monthly fee site, I think its Honda Official site. Before I purchased my Honda (my first) I did some work on a relative's Honda. One dealer parts person refused it even look up part, saying the car is too old ('87), even after I told him same part is on later models. Luckily we have two Honda dealers in town, and the other dealer looked up the parts, had both in stock, and ready when I arrived.

it s pretty simple: you chane all fluids ( brakes, oil, stearing, radiator, transmission ) any mechanic can do that for you for peanuts. i never went to honda & had 250 000 on my accord 2005 when i sold it. stay away from dealers unless you have a comlicated problem ( which is none existent with hondas anyways ) THNX

I am using the UK Made 2018 Civic SR Hatchback in Sri Lanka, the maintenance minder in my car was showing remaining milage till the second service and the service center people have reset the oil life via Launch x431 scanner when they did the service. and now the car is showing oil life as remaining days and there is no option to revert it back to show it in remaining milage. service guys again try to change it to milage via the same scanner but even the scanner does not have an option to change it to milage. is there anyone who faced a similar issue? or anyone can help me to fix that issue? I have seen some cars have the service minder in days or percentage or milage, is it something to do with the region? Another issue --- When I turn off the auto-idle stop it used to show "Auto Idle Stop" or "Auto idle Start", but now the message only shows just "Stop" or "Start"

The fact is the maintenance minder works by the calendar. I only drive 1,400 miles a year and every year on the month that I bought my car the maintenance minder tells me I need an oil change.
@nolaguy1408
@nolaguy1408 3 года назад
What if you didn't read the instructions about how the minder system works when getting the car, and may have missed some important maintenance intervals because you reset the light when getting oil change without noting other items? Only thing major I've done is change transmission fluid at 70k. Nearing 100k now so I'm sure something else due. A simpler question is at what mileage did ya'll have to change spark plugs, coolant, timing belt... the major items I see on sub item list? Thanks!!

I guess all Honda Maintenance Minders work like mine. It doesn't tell you what "needs to be done" until my oil usage gets down to 15%. Sooo, what happens if you want to change your oil earlier and reset it at say 40% or something? How does the MM handle this?

This technology does have its problems. My case, new 2015 CR-V bought October 2015. At 5,000 miles I changed the oil myself instead waiting till 10,000, thinking the break-in period might have some extra wear as parts properly mate. I reset the maintenance minder for oil. At about 9,500 I got a code that the differential needed servicing, but after a week that code went away while I was out of town not using the vehicle. So when doing the recent service advisory about a transmission software fix, I had the dealer heck then replace the differential fluid and rotate the tires. I imagine the tech told the maintenance minder about the diff fluid change and the tire rotation. Somehow during this dealer service the oil history got reset so now it thinks the oil life is 100%, not 50%. So this technology is easily messed up or gets out of sync and I don't think you can rely on it at all.

Honda Dealer...huh...really? My dealership ripped me off for years by having me oil and filter changed every 3000 miles for my 2015 civic....I found out very late and now I do my own oil change every 5500 miles or every 6 month whichever comes first. With top brand 0w-20 oil and honda genuine filter it cost me less than half of what they charge at the dealership plus the time saving...takes about 20 min compared to 2 hour trip to dealership and back.

This is really great ! But why did my dealer put 3,500 mi on the sticker for my 2nd oil/fil change ? I found the answer why for the 1st due to breakin, but shouldn't I wait for the lighted maintenance reminder for the next one instead of the 3,500 mi on the sticker ?
