My favorite part of MSC is that every single Finnish person I've talked to has told me it's comically close to actual life in rural Finland, so props for accuracy, lmao.
I personally have very little interest in cars but still watch MSC videos for nostalgia reasons (as a small town girl from northern Finland.) Some of the dudes in the field actually look eeringly similar to my uncles who live alone on the countryside without a spouse and children. And Alivieska seems like a direct reference to Alavieska, a town where many of my cousins live. So yeah, not too far from truth!
Jusging by the sheer quality of this game im guessing the developers come from there and have lives exactly like that in the past. Meant in a good and not so good way
You forgot my favourite way of doing the lumber, chopping more then double the trailer’s full volume of wood, ram packing the van full of wood, and towing the van to the firewood dude’s house and getting double then payout for 4x more work and 10x more glitchyness and space program adventures
@@darealmrog no mitäs vittua sää tuut tänne huutelee perkelettä saatana (google translate probably wont translate this correctly as I wrote it on "puhekieli")
Honestly my favorite part of this game is the ability to just say "FUCK IT ALL!", grab the motor boat, (other means of transportation are available), some beer and sausages, and just fuck off to the island summer cottage. The game knows you sometimes need a vacation from your summer vacation.
In my opinion, the point of MSC is the feel. The feel of waking up in the early AMs by a drunk person. The feel of wasps coming in through your ear. The feel of getting your project car working. (a project car that was very popular here in Finland in the 70s) And that feel has been set in perfectly. The game also in the eyes of someone who actually is Finnish looks like Finland. It by no means is my favorite game, nor is it perfect, but I will say this: it does what it’s supposed to
Yep, I've rage quit this game before. Tried getting to town before the store closed, rolled the van. It gets dark and storms, and I'm stuck halfway between town and home, with no light source. When you're stranded in the middle of nowhere, it absolutely feels like real life.
I can never really play much of it myself, because it's hard as fuck to even DRIVE in the game. Walking? Fuck that. Swimming? Die of exhaustion, hunger, or thirst within yards of teimo's shop, The is the easiest thing to drive and that's still a pain a lot of times.
As a Finn I must say, yeah. This game is an extremely accurate depiction of Finnish rural area. Excluding the detail of no one giving a damn about you stealing and vandalizing things.
This game gives me the vibes of postal 2, mostly because it's "have a normal day and do chores or whatever" but you get tempted to do sociopathic things constantly
One thing about the game most people sadly never even realize are all the small humoristic references/words about Finnish culture, traditions, stereotypes and shit in the 90s (1995 never forget) Humor and culture can't really be translated. The game is a perfect self-conscious homage especially about the 90s countryside Finns and i fucking love it.
This is incredible, the editing is on point, enjoying an absolute masterpiece of a game, as being part Scandinavian, and having been to Finland, this game brings a lot nostalgia. 10/10 video
The realism in the game is on another level, okay on the surface it looks like a low end cheesy game but man I have never felt so much real emotion about a game the way I have with My Summer Car. All the satisfaction in the world when you get it running then 5 min later you wreck the car and all that is taken away
I like these dimly lit caverns. In fact I spent all my teenage life exploring various different caverns. Some were quite smooth, while others were more ravaged by time. It was fun until a monster grew from that cavern and the owner of the land that the cavern resided on used the monster to force me to pay a ridiculous amount of money to them each month. The lesson? Remember to wear a rubbery gas mask whenever you're exploring caverns.
You should include a spoiler alert for what Jokke does after you steal his money and what happens after you got drunk with Suski. These events are very precious.
As someone who has been active in the MSC community while it was still, in its main development state. I must applaud you for your in depth lore and knowledge of this game. I was not expecting such a high quality video about this game.
As someone who who starts his comments with "As someone who {insert relevant detail}" , Id like to bore everyone with my {insert life story} and kiss your ass a little at the end !
Dang. 307 views in less than 48 hours. (307 is my homestates area code so I guess thats neat.) I already have an idea of what I want to make next, I may still release some of the other smaller recap videos that I have on backlog until then. This took me about a week and a half to edit, my next project might take a bit longer since I chose The Long Dark, and theres alot to cover. Until then, Ill definitely try my best to fill in until that video is done. I will be streaming The Long Dark on Twitch monday, and then flowing back into my normal stream schedule Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Edit: Bruh, 1.6K.
Mildly interesting fact about the name of the studio, “Amis” is common shorthand for “Ammattikoulu”, which is Finnish for trade/vocational school. A common trade to study in amis is car tech / mechanic. Fixing or driving a shitbox car around has become somewhat of an amis stereotype. Another thing the name could technically refer to is that you can also study game design in some tradeschools.
god I just loved the martincitopants segment. I saw his video and proceeded do buy MSC and play for almost 2 days straight and then your videos comes out and references it I just lost my shit laughing
The way he use "Eyes of PAIN SUFFERING AGONY" in his goose avatar like Mart did is already funny enough, but that "rivalry" segment simply made me burst into non-stop laughing for 10 minutes straight
Man, I don’t care if this is an homage to Martincintopants, regardless I love these style of videos. From the jokes and side tangents that just feel homely and fit in while explaining the game. Personally, as long as you’re having fun, keep up the content! I love it.
It's not an homage to anyone both mandalor and Sseth use a similar style for reviewing games the only difference is this guy has yet to shill raid shadow Legends
The feeling of finally getting the car to turn over and hearing it knocking and the timing is off and the cam shaft if fucked up, is literally the exact same "fuck yeah atleast this son of a bitch still has some life in it!" I felt when I got my first truck running after the previous owner donated two pistons to the internal space station so many heads aches and fucking shit up constantly but that sense of accomplishment when it finally works even just barley is perfect this game captures the exact experience of building your first project car but with less heatstroke
This game has this odd feeling of nostalgia, going to the dance hall, getting drunk and then going home late in the night while listening to 80 - 90's music.
I usually don't comment but I love this game and can't wait for the sequel. I'm happy to see new videos being made on it and hopefully draws more support for the dev.
Wyo, I just found this video in my feed, and you make amazing content, I didn't know I needed another channel with similar editing and humor to Mart, but you have enough of your own flair to really stand out. I look forward to you hitting 10,000 subs in the coming days, and maybe even in the coming months, 100,000. Your content is well edited, and well written, and I can only aspire to learn editing like you have. Have a nice day :)
You can transport multiple logs in the log carrier next to the log cutter, and you can get a second one from the cabin in the island, making the firewood job faster, by putting the 2 next to the log cutting
Video format was perfect mate. I have been playing MSC since around 2018 and still found your take on things interesting yet mixed with enough humor to making watching enjoyable too. Keep it up :)
poor guy didn't realize you can use the little pallet thing to load like 8 stacks of wood into just by picking it up and rubbing it on em, saves a bunch of time but is still kinda fiddly
I don't agree that wood cutting is bad. In fact, it's one of the best jobs in the game. All you have to do is take the second wood carrier from the island, put it with the starter one so when you're chopping the wood, it falls into wood carriers at both sides and automatically snaps to them. Then you take the wood carriers in a way that you see the "drop firewood" button, then go to the trailer and dump the wood. Go back and collect the wood pieces that fell not directly into the wood carriers. And repeat it like that! P. S. I hope this helps to anyone reading.
People don't understand that the game is like life simulator you need to suffer for small success. You need to work for 30 min for case of beer and milk, but that is the point. You need to suffer so you can feel not day later but month later the pride that you did suffer and accomplish something small. True Finnish simulator.
The way I see MSC is that it's essentially an interactive Aki Kaurismäki film. A piece of actual art, depicting an extremely specific time and space. It is remarkably unpretentious about what it is and thus it's got more artistic value than half a million other walking simulators pretending to be high art when they're just babby's first film school art movie tier crap. And it is an very accurate representation of that time. T. Lived in 1995 rural Finland. PS: The tractor's a Valmet 502, which is an extremely common tractor that practically everyone who's lived in a farm has driven at some point over here.
Hey bud, So a few things about 'technical ' aspects of video quality. Consider equalizing audio, I'm not great at this but I've had some people show me, and a really mid mic can sound incredible with manual equalizing. This gets increasingly complicated with the fact that your mic will not always be the same distance from your mouth, so it takes time to figure out how far you should be away from your specific microphone at what angle. Also, audio balancing. It can be improved in this video- music is overpowering and the unedited audio lacks the punch to stand above the music. Overall, aside from the really pixelated duck avatar, it is a very enjoyable well written video with excellent visual presentation. I'd just make a point about structure - It flip flaps without segway between a guide and a review. This is super minor but Sseth does this really well, where he blends guides with reviews. His videos that don't do that - like his CK3 review, are super weak and nowhere near as memorable. Have a look at his neo-scavenger video. Which is a mixture of a guide, review and narrative piece. You could, for example framed the guide part of the video, as you being an average finnish person just going through their daily life, as a narrative framing. Either way, would be interesting to chat with you, if you have a discord.
I agree that the audio leaves much to be desired. I think I finally fixed it with a fresh driver install and update, and instead of Sherpa, Im using logitechs equalizer. Time will tell. But I might be also at the limit of what my little walmart yeti nano can do in a room with very little echo proofing and thin walls. But Ill definitely keep the segmenting and structuring of the video in mind next time. I wasnt so sure what route I wanted to go down when making this video since it was just going to be a normal recap before I decided to make it a scripted review. Now that I know ahead of time, I can Think it out a bit further before hand.
This was a fun video, told me enough about the game to get me interested without going into painful details. Entertaining the whole time and just a lot of fun. +subscribe
The best way to get groceries and stuff at the beginning is to use the boat and moped. You hold the moped in your hands while you drive the boat to town, then you use the moped to run stuff back and forth and go back. It is so much quicker than the tractor.
The funny thing about the secret money stash is, I accidentally found out something happens if you don't take it , because I have a horrible sense of direction and couldn't find the spot he told me about, so I just gave up and decided ill try again later , turns out he made bank with the money, moved to house closer to his favorite bar, meaning no more calls to be his designated driver and best of all he now pays you double for the moonshine you bring him.
usually not big of a commenter but : well done *pat pat* I enjoyed spending time watching this video. It helps that this style is right up my ally. Waaaayyyy back in the history of my summer car choping wood was so much easier because the physics were total jank. If you split the log the two pieces would 18 times out of 20 just spazzout and fly everywhere ACTUALLY making it easier :D
I got the wood 🪵 carrier from the lake and the other one and put them each side of the chopping block so when I split wood both pieces automatically fell into the carrier's.... work smart not hard haha
In the pre release build if you had a piece of wood sitting just right on the chopping block it would split logs as soon as they spawn allowing you to spam click the hell out of it.
Quick tips for the lumber job : - It takes about 17 full wood carriers to fill the trailer (153 logs) - You can also use your axe to put the wood of the chopping wood log
I’ve known of this game ever since Robbaz covered it many years back. I’ve always wanted to place my hands on it, but I didn’t have a Pc. Now that I do, I might as well have to undergo and enjoy the immense torment that this masterpiece of a game offers.
I discovered this game through Graystillplays about a month ago, but found out he played it 5 years ago, and this game is such a gem, it's clunkly, buggy, but that's part of it's charm. I haven't played it yet but have seen many youtubers share their experience, and this is how I found your video. great stuff.
This game is decently fun if you get mods to revert changes largely unliked by the player base. There are quite a few changes that were made just to make the game more unfun and can really only be described as dev says no.
Your missing the point of the game, its a game about living life in the Finnish summer of 1995. Its meant to be difficult, some tasks are designed to be boring and your actions have consequences. Don't ruin it with mods
@@kyranthez927 the only "mod" i'd ever want to use is MSC editor for the car report so i dont have to wonder why the car i spent two hours building wont turn over
yeah like what? the only thing i disagreed with was the bee killing you if you didn't have a windscreen and he reverted that due to popular demand months ago. i think you miss the point of the game, just enjoy it for what it is, don't get caught up in the fact it isn't perfect, nothing is.
Welp I play this game for a long long time and since I already know all the stuff, the moment I spawn I take a bike, go to the money location, steal the money, get the axe and put it on my bed, then that guy comes, I just knock him out and then I can do anything I want... skipping all the boring tasks... I actually loved the early game where I could just take the truck and go take out sewage and make a bit money that way but now when the truck is moved into the city, I dont even bother getting it cuz there is no point for doing so... You forgot to mention that you can also make money by brewing and selling alcohol...
i'm a big fan of this game, it's nice to see videos that do it justice. i have a criticism though, it's often difficult to hear what you're saying - it's not just your mic quality, it's a combination of that and your diction, particularly at the end of sentences you go really quiet.
The FitnessGram PACER Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The test is used to measure a student's aerobic capacity as part of the FitnessGram assessment. Students run back and forth as many times as they can, each lap signaled by a beep sound.
ok i have watched it 3 times and I can say UPGRADE YOUR AUDIO QUALITY BUT besides that this review is better than martin by 2 points making it 9/10 also no one gets a 10/10 unless production of this catergory ( for eg: game review) of content stops entierly
That is my one biggest issue is the mic quality. Im using a yeti nano and for some reason I cannot get it to stop fluctuating in gain. Ive use audacities built in audio control, sherpa, and now Im trying logitechs control board, but testing shows the same issue. Ive tried switching usb cables and it doesnt seem to help, so its the mic itself, which is about 4 years old so its probably at the end of its life cycle. But a new mics out of the budget for now, so duct tape and bubble gum will do.
Become a mechanic like I did and you can come back to the game and build the car to the point where it's inspection worthy in about 3 hours with no guidance. I first started playing this in 2018. I had to pirate it back then because I was a measly kid that had parents that didn't care for my games. In 2020 I bought the game and 2022 I am here now as an apprentice and for the first time I have jumped in the game and without and guidance I have built the entire car after coming home from work and before going to sleep for the next day. This game is an absolute gem
I keep coming back to this video. This must be like 8th time i've watched this. You really have a knack for doing videos like this. Please keep doing More and More videos like this and i'm sure you'll see massive growth on your channel
