This was such a great interview and Mortellus said something my grandfather used to always tell me, “Be afraid of the living, not the dead”. So true. I can’t wait to read this book!
"Maybe Hell is where the Devil hides you from God's people" hits so close for me, I had similar experiences with Church stuff. I need to get this book, thank you both 💖
You are both such special, wonderful people. This was absolutely awesome to watch and listen to. Thank you so much. 🖤 Can't wait to read Mortellus' book.
SQUEEE! They are one of my favorite authors! Ever! Their first book, "Do I Have to Wear Black?" is/was a pivotal point in my life and practice. I caught them on a podcast with their previous publisher and started drinking in every podcast and interview I could find. And ordered that book. It was due to arrive the following Monday. Instead, it showed up that Friday. I found everything I needed for my son's service the next day (had it arrived on Monday, it would have been after his service). Even now, my heart fills with such gratitude for Mortellus's healing words it leaks out of my eyes. My son was 28 when he won his battle with mental illness in 2022. He left behind a wife, 2 children (4 and 7), his brothers, and many, many others. I got "The Bones Fall in a Spiral" last week and am looking forward to the magick it will make in my life. Deep gratitude to you both for this podcast. In a world of horrors, you are a beautiful bright spot. Thank you ❤
Definitely buying their book! I'm training in mortuary science at present....But hoping to become a Death Doula \High Priestess who does hand fasting weddings and funerals legally under an occult flavour.... Fingers crossed I pull it off, I live in the UK& they deal with death really old fashioned here... I loved this episode Ivy, Mortellus has my dream job!!! Much love and light to you both sister witches🎃☾🦇✮
Incredible interview! Thank you so much for not just doing a review but having them on to discuss the topic. Such a powerful viewpoint on death, death work, learning, magic, ugh I could go on and on. I'm definitely going to pick this book up. I'm so fascinated to hear about the aspects of the soul in the book. Thank you Ivy!
This has to BE 1 of My FAVORITE Interviews that you've done, Ivy. Thank You❣ I find it Tragic yet a mindblowingly PURPOSEFUL Life Trajectory Mortellus was cast into🤗 And I Am Grateful for their Existence & the Knowledge Shared!!!💜🖤💫
I had this video saved in my watch list for a WHILE and felt some kind of way about it as someone who’s only a year or so into the craft but I’m SO glad I finally watched it. Both you and Mortellus are so engaging and shedding light on their work and necromancy was really enlightening. I will be buying their book! Thanks for the content, Ivy!
Loved the interview! and to be comfortable enough to open up like that wow 🧡this sounds like a book that teaches not just what it's like to be a necromancer, but to understand the concepts and some of the philosophy behind taking up the practice of or incorporating it into an exsisting practice...thank you again for a wonderful informative video
This was a very interesting discussion and I really appreciate the opportunity to listen about this topic. Thanks for sharing this information with us.
This was amazing!! Always love when interviews are really impactful on things and you walk away from it thinking about the specific topic in a new way! Much love to both you Ivy and Mortellus
Oh I love this book! I have it on Sribbed! Love love love both of you!❤ I relate soooo much being raised in a evil Christian religion and being raped and being told the same thing. Except the church was trying to pray my virginity back.. it's amazing folks like you both who both shed light on stuff like this. Thank you
As a former Christian with a lot of residual guilt, this interview caused a huge epiphany within me. I hadn’t really thought seriously about whether or not the Christian God and God’s people were the bad guys, and based on my experience, it makes SO MUCH SENSE. The molestations and protection of guilty clergy, the mistreatment, the yelling, the emphasis on reproduction but the demonization of pleasurable sex, the pressure to fit into a specific gender stereotype, the persecution of the LGBTQIA+ community (despite the whole “Love your neighbor” thing!), the persecution of other religions, the Crusades, the loss of female reproductive rights in the US, the Inquisition - God’s people have a LOT to answer for. Even my own personal experiences with my Christian family being abusive towards me, being told I shouldn’t have gay friends, being shamed for who I am and pressured to change, working in the Christian soup kitchens for the homeless where everything is conditional (and honestly, telling people with no homes and lives that have gone horribly wrong that God loves them is an asshole move) - how is the church, its god and it’s people the good guys? They’re not. They’re brainwashed gaslighters. I think in telling her origin story, Mortellus freed me of the vestigial guilt and fear of fell that I had after my former Christian conditioning. I was called to be a witch since I was 3. I am who I am.
One of my favorite videos of yours yet Ivy! I love you both. And I loved the info in this video! I am a Grey Witch and a Necromancer and Medium. I too grew up with a strict religious background and suffered trauma from it, albeit not to that extreme that Mortellus did. But I appreciate you both and your time and energy and I can't wait to get both of your books!! ❤😊
a lovely refreshing view of necromancy that i align with. when i read the usual go to book like 'communing with spirits'. I actually felt alarmed and a little depressed by its view of communing with the dead. now by reading Mortellus's book I can balance my viewpoint and take heart and explore this aspect of life. Life is as much part of death and death part of life, cycles of spirituality that we all share whatever side of life/afterlife we stand
Thank you, Ivy and Mortellus for the great interview. It took me back to my Death & Dying course. I learned so much that semester and from this discussion.
This came at a perfect time. I am taking a 6 week course called End of Life Ceremonies and Im learning how to coordinate and create these ceremonies (funerals) for people that arent religious or Christian. I have to listen to this again. Thank you both for this heart centered talk and whatvan absolute pleasure to meet Mortellus here for the very first time. Looking for their books now.
Loved this interview!! Definitely want to pick up their book now! Add it to the stack... Such an interesting subject matter and ways of seeing things that I hadn't considered before! Thank you Mortellus for sharing so much, and thank you Ivy for conducting this interview 🖤
Amazing interview! Not a topic I am drawn to. However after meeting Mortellus, I will definitely read the book. Ivy has a valid point on learning about variety. Two truly amazing people! 💜💫
Ive been waiting for this!!! Thank you both, so much! I just bought the book, which I've waited for, for what seems like forever. I haven't finished it yet, but am really looking forward to it.
I know this video is not even knew, but I needed it so much, I had seen it on the channel but hadn't watch it yet. I did it just at the right moment. I did a tarot reading on dec 2023 for the year and I got some occult topics to try and learn this year, necromancy/death magick was one of them and I didn't even know where to begin with but this was so helpful. Already got the book on audible!!
OMG fungi are necromancers! I’ve always been fascinated with fungi because of their transmutation properties. They decompose and reanimate organic matter. Also fabulous interview Ivy, really enjoying your channel and diving into chaos majick ❤
I love doing blood work theres something just so powerful about it. I so need to read this book especially as ive been told in the past that i have a talent for Cthonic witch craft and necromancy is something that interests me but ive struggled to find a book id read bevause it seems alot of them include calling upon demons and stuff
I love Mortellus' knowledge standpoint. If I wasn't already in a full time massage school and a class/workshop for healing past trauma, I would totally take some workshops with them. I'll have to check them out next year.
There is a highly plutonian scorpionic vibe , i would be surprised if Mortellus would not have a plutonian scorpionic energy in her natal chart , loved the video it was extremely informative and very interesting and even life changing for sure !!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Cant wait for the book!! My dad passed almost a year ago and been difficult to maneuver way through as an atheist. Theres hope, but i feel like my atheism just tells me that "im sorry, but thats the end now" Ive dabbled in hoping for a theist click to happen by way of paganism, but it hasn't. Even before his death. I just read and hope. He was a devout christian and as much as Id love to try and reach out I would hate to upset his eidolon/spirit if there is something like that out there of his. I just find being surrounded by staunch atheists and christians is so limiting as I explore what it all means to me. Id love to have friends and have chats like this. Well I will certainly read this. And hope.
I had to pause and comment what the heck. The best teachers are surely kept hidden. Mortellus I have so much to learn from you... And yet i feel I have learned so much already. Just not here, in another time and place, can't explain what I mean. ❤
I usually listen while I shower and I was about to get in the shower and when I was listening to their origin story I just sat down on the side of the shower
Blood work is very mundane to me too. In my profession, I handle and test blood all day. And other body fluids too…. And let me say there are some fluids that are much more disturbing to work with than blood. 😅 I don’t even give blood work a second thought
How many of us have had these negative experiences with the church, and they cannot understand why we started searching for the truth and totally rejected their evil? Especially when you are a child and see you adults doing and saying evil things and calling themselves "Christian," that child's mind can see through the lies.
Just got a copy of Audible.... not sure if they will read the citations.... we shall see. Hopefully, I will have access. Also, I've never heard of mortellus before, but they seem to have a very compassionate, kind, clever, gentle, energy. Thank you both. ❤ I actually want to go into palliative care ( already in health and social care sector) and would love to have funds to own a funeral directors..... business plans 2030... lol.
Given the discussion of definitions with regards to the incorporeal dead, I’m curious what their take would be on phenomena like ghost ships! I’m an animist so I just assume that the spirits of destroyed objects persist just like with people, but I know others have different takes. (I live in Maritime Canada so I have heard many opinions on the Phantom Ship of the Northumberland Strait!)
I was turned into a necromancer through diablo games😬fulfilled prophecies without realizing it... I blame semen retention for it all😂had me walking some golden path, and the reward was seeing all play out in D4😂just be careful around weed while not spilling seed... might have an actual death and rebirth...
Loved this discussion. 🩶 It makes my nerd heart happy about the title and other gaming influences! 🎮🎲 Also, I loved how Mortellus emphasizes necromancy being a daily practice! 💀🖤 So true. *Leftovers getting microwaved* 🤯😏
Great interview. Made some great points. I agreed with almost everything said here. Well done. A little too political, though. I'm still trying to figure out if I should be insulted by the old white man comment. I don't even like apples. Jk
I'm worried that the gathering of some of the mentioned ingredients could have a negative effect on background checks and employability. Not sure I want the average reddit practitioner procuring corpse water. I doubt I have any problem with any other aspect of the book.
Only 5 minutes in and I’m already crying I want my 5 year old little girl to hug your 5 year old little girl so bad ❤️🩹 what you said about feeling that maybe the devils isn’t so bad since the “god people” Church was so evil I can relate to it then and now still. I too grew up part of a toxic religious upbringing. I see it still cause it’s family, but I have stepped into my power and awakened to my truth which helps. Thank you for sharing.
