Hey I'm new to this eye stuff. My right eye does a lot of work while my left eye doesn't. Will closing my right eye help my left eye work harder even when I'm not closing my right eye
@@isaiahjackson4010yes your left eye needs to see the world while your right eye is patched because your left eye has to see more of the places because it has to become stronger
@@nguyenhoang4144 I needed those patches as a child for many years and it didn't help at all. I suffered a lot with it. I can see with one eye only shapes and colours. And I do drive a car since 15 years , works perfectly fine. I just have a little harder time with parking.
This was informative. Could you also make a video about ‘lazy eye’ being caused by eyelid droop(ptosis?) in adults? I’m an adult but my doctor still suggested eye-patch as a bare minimum since the numbers between both eyes have always been way off. I wonder if it’s going to help much…at the very least it might provide temporary relief to the other eye I guess.
Dr. Rupa, I appreciate you making this video but some of the information is incorrect. In particular, the "critical period" is no longer medically accepted dogma, though there is, of course, a period of time of maximal neurogenesis, but it continues on still throughout adulthood and can be restimulated via dopaminergic agents. Additionally, patching has been shown to be effective in adults, even those with severe amblyopia (Khan 2015 "Is There a Critical Period for Amblyopia Therapy? Results of a Study on Older Anisometropic Amblyopes") Thanks
Why can I control my squint??? Like I know when I am squinting, but I can easily force the squinting eye to not squint.....but it causes blurryness and headache 🥲🥲🥲 Is there any way to get it fixed,. am scared thinking about surgery 🫠🫠🫠
hi, I have an 18 months old little son who has been diagnosed with amblyopia and strabism when he was 7 months old. And it has been nearly 11 months since we put a patch on his eye for 2 hours every day and we take him to park on his carriage to make it easy for him to have a patch. I have been wondering recently that when he sits and watch tv it works better for him than taking him to park, because he concentrates more and tries to use the lazy eye while having patch on the other eye. i would like to know is it really helpful for him to watch tv while having a patch?
im 31 yrsold already and i have ablyopia till now is it work for adult if im gonna do patching, i diagnosed last 2012 for cataract in my left eye still cant see 😭😭
New subscriber here! I found your channel and have been watching and learning so much from your videos! Would you be able to do a video on ptosis? I had a frontalis sling procedure due to my congenital ptosis and would love to know more information about it. Thank you Dr. Rupa Wong! :)
Oh my goodness I’m so grateful for this video! This is the first time I even google lazy eye on children hoping that there was a cure. my daughter is 5 rn and for 2 years I’ve been worried about her vision because she has a slightly lazy or wandering eye. I might be the only one who notices but Ive taken pictures and it’s pretty visible and I worried for her vision, but the eye tests have been great so I thought it was just me and I never took her to ophthalmologist . But this video is unbelievably informative and now I’m taking her anyway and will be doing the eye patch, I didn’t even know it was possible to correct it or that theres surgery for it thank you so much for making it so easy to get informed. I’m one happy mom ❤
I am going to take note of this question and look into creating a video on what causes a lazy eye. Thank you for your question! Stick around for the answer.
hey, im 23 and my right eye drifts to the right when im not focusing on an object im seeing. if use a patch will that affect my good eye. other than patching for more than 6 hours. also if i take the patch off and had it on for under 2 hours would that affect my good eye
Patching done correctly should not affect the vision of your good eye. The purpose is to make your weak eye work harder to focus more. However I am not a doctor so I would suggest you speak to professional.
i want to ask is it okay or more harmful for blapthiris? Swelling of the eyelids.. Maybe docs give it to me because i live in a desert area to avoid contamination. However, is it necessary at home? Knowing there can be some dust😅 also , for how long do u recommend
am 17 . I used to use eye patch. For almost 2 years when I sit down to study or try to concentrate on a task then the eye ball of my eye that i see less move completely to one corner and my vision become blurry . I remember last year in board exam I was writing without seeing anything with teary eye. No one understands my condition.may be I can't explain it properly to them. What should I do ?. I can't even study properly . Even now I am typing it almost without seeing
Hi! I’m 21 and had my first strabismus surgery when I was two, both of my eyes were crossed inward. I started noticing in maybe July of 2022 that my left eye was wandering outwards. It’s just gotten worse over time and I see the optical surgeon on the 15th of February. Do you think I’ll 100% need to have surgery again since it’s a recurrence from childhood or could patching work? And do you think I would only need the surgery on my left eye or both even though the right is fine as of now? I would love the feedback! Thank you!!
So I recently found out that I have a lazy eye, I always knew my right eye's vision is much more weak but I never knew it was a lazy eye so I guess what I'm asking is could I wear a patch at age 20 and could it benefit me or just make it worse
Patching is typically worn during childhood, so it wouldn’t be effective for an adult. You will need to see a doctor and they will give you glasses, contact lenses or eye drops.
Ben Türk doktordan öğrendim.Bir kız 23 yaşlarındaymış.Doktorlar göz kapama yapma zamanı geçti demişler.O buna rağmen istikrarlı kapama yapmış.O dediğim doktora muayene olmaya geliyormuş.Ve göz kapama işe yaradı dedi doktor.Bende şaşırdım dedi.Kızın gözleri düzeldi dedi...
Hey! Thanks for the question. I would definitely see an eye doctor before doing a patching treatment to ensure it is the treatment your daughter needs.
Thank you for the video, I had problems with it as a boy and now in my mid 30s it's getting worse. 1 specialist says surgery may work, another says it will cause more harm. Should I patch for work and reading? That's what I think, especially as my strong eye is starting to get weaker, and I'm starting to worry 😥
I’m 23 I turn 24 in July is it too late for me ? Or can I get my vision better don’t wanna have blurry vision anymore and I definitely don’t want to lose the light in my eye because the best way I can explain it is I can still see out of my bad eye but it’s not as clear and perfect as my other eye I can’t read or see anything small with my left eye but I would like to improve my left eye so it’s just as good if not close to my right eye

Plzz reply this is very important for me ...my parents don't afford any vision therapy ...I have 5-10%lazy eye...can exercise on daily basis correct my eye?
Thank you Dr. Rupa, for the informative video! I wore a patch when I was a kid. I have a question. Can you do a video on the effects of retinopathy of prematurity in adults? I asked my optometrist (who's attached to the opthalmology department at a major medical school) and he said that that's a question for a pediatric ophthalmologist. Given that you see both kids and adults, can you provide some insight? I'm having issues that he wasn't really able to explain, and I'm wondering if my prior ROP history could have anything to do with it.
I’m 28 and had a Scleral Buckle installed after a retinal detachment.. Now I suffer from Macular Pucker and am sometimes crosseyed. It varies from day to day depending on the membrane and how it effects/distorts my vision. Some days are fine. Some are awful. Do you think patching would help any at all? Or is the buckle limiting muscle movement too much for it to actually benefit me? I know I’ll likely have to have another surgery and have the buckle removed..
My baby had to have cataract surgery when he was 13 weeks old and now has to wear a patch on his good eye for 6-8 hours a day. He is currently 5 months old and rips the patch off constantly. Any tips on keeping on or patches that stay on better?

Hi I recently turned 40 and I am starting to experience Amblyopia. It normally happens when I'm tired and I notice my vision gets a little blurry and my lazy eye happens. Will wearing an eye patch work? If not, is there anything I can do that will help?
@illuminategaming4804 it sucks, but I just try to relax my eyes when I get tired now. And I am more aware if I am squinting and using the stronger eye and try not to do it. How about you?
I have done my strabismus surgery of alternative exotropia squint However there is residual exotropia squint specially when i am reading or seeing far object ,,, should i use patch or go for resurgery My 1st surgery is done 1 month ago ,, kindly
I have a lazy left eye which moves inwards a little bit when I look closely (while reading for example). Because of that I get double vision. Very uncomfortable. So sad I was not diagnosed as a kid and now it's too late :'(
I'm sorry you struggle with this. Here is a video on surgery for this issue, if you are interested - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Bm7ENi0C80o.html
Hello mam my daughter also same pblm laze eye.. Doctor tells that do patching. Am asking a doubt that doing patching my daughter helps improvement in lazy eye or not🙏 plz reply
I always had 20/20 vision my whole life but also had my left eye wonder off at times. But it wasn’t that bad honestly just sometimes randomly it would happen. Recently I had Bells Palsy and my face gotten better but that left eye has gotten worse! I can feel how weak it’s gotten. Should I wear a patch to make it stronger??
It is difficult, I am 40 Years old and recently started getting a bit of a lazy eye, and the cause of that is when I read I often find my self closing my left eye. I had to start forcing my self to use my left eye a lot more, I see fine out of it, however, things are a little further away, but just a little. so I think it is from years of reading at night and closing my left eye that caused it. I am trying the patch as well as eye exercises to see if that helps. and I have noticed some improvment.
@@DrRupaWong Thank You, I hope so, however, I am going in to get a complete checkup just to make sure, as I am getting older and need to see if anything else is going on. Thank You for what you do, and the information you provide to us all..
I think I have amblyopia (my right eye is terrible and near sided and my left eye is far sided and pretty good), I wore eyepatches as a kid but I guess not enough. When I zone out my right eye often dozes off. But now I’m 18, is there any point or wearing eye patches now?
Very informative, thanks a lot❤.I noticed i developed Extropia without vision decay about 3 years ago. I wonder if there's any way to reverse this condition.🙏
1975 they tried to get me to wear those but I wasn’t having it. At 53 now I wish I would have done it. I’m being told it’s about 85% effective. Now I’m out of luck
I am from Pakistan and my daughter is have problem amblyopia her age is now 14 years doc recommend patch as you say on healthy eye her other eye vision is week I am worried for her eyesight kindly tell me what exercises can help her to improve her eyesight
I had normal eyes after suffering from glaucoma both eye were affected but one dropped more hence to see i used glasses which corrected only one eye but the other could do nothing for that..but now i am using 1 at age 20 what should be done dr?
What if u have one eye that wonders off but the stronger eye starting to have blurry vision and the vision gets worse in the none wondering off eye? ( 7 year old)
My daughter is suffering with refractive amblyopia right eye -H53.021 myopia right eye-H52.11 please guide hospital treatment is so expensive can she gain her sight ?and the left eye is perfect she is 12 years old
Thank you for the informative video. I only wear contact lens in my right eye and I also have ptosis on the right eyelid. My left eye has perfect vision. I suspect I have refractive amblyopia based on your video. My ptosis fluctuates from mild to moderate and I'm already considering eyelid surgery. I'm wondering if my lazy eye is the cause of my ptosis and vice versa. Does patching work for adult or is it too late for me?
Hi! I think similar to the below comment, I'm wondering about treatment options for adults that have always had lower visual acuity in one eye compared to the other (lazy eye). My right eye is significantly weaker than the left as a 29 yo and I believe this causes me vision strain, easy crossing of the eyes at certain viewing angles, etc. I think my brain is literally blocking out certain amounts of info from my weaker eye, because it seems a lot less clear/ with some more slightly faded vertical stripes of vision when I'm only looking out my right eye, if that makes sense. I'm wondering if anything can be done in terms of patching, eye exercises, etc. that will still benefit adults? I used to wear an eye patch as a kid and had prescription glasses for this reason, but poor compliance and I don't think the situation was ever fully rectified.
I will link a video I have done on vision exercises here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hw4WzcnWptw.html I hope this helps a little bit! I know it can be so hard to deal with these things.
Hi got interested in this😢 my 4yr.old boy got "lazy eye" on his right eye😢 it started last year on October 8, 2023.. permanent..lazy..?😢 he can't control it anymore 😢

So I wonder if it could work on adults that developed a lazy eye? Cuz 3 years ago I never had a lazy them I got in a bad accident and that's when I started too see doubles of everything without my glasses
hello. im 17 and i have a lazy eye. my left eye wanders off. and its embarrassing. i cannot get a surgery or go to a doc due to financial problems. would this eye patch work fix them at 17 or is it too late?
You can definitely give it a shot! Also, I will post a link to my eye exercises video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hw4WzcnWptw.html
i have astigmatism with -4 in the left and 0.5 in the right therefore leading to more decrease in the vision in the left eye. Now, the issue is that, because my right eye was in tip top condition, i saw the world pretty normally until i took a test for fun and realised it was already too late as i was 16. most kids dont even recognise the need for a checkup due to the other eye being in complete favour. im opting for eye patching a way to make my left eye co ordinate with the brain, hoping that it works. im almost 18 so i dont really know.
