I’m finally cracking the code with my hair. More people need to talk about this especially with Caucasian straight hair. I swear my hair was more healthy when it was bleached and now I know why. My porosity was higher making it easier to accept the products I was using. When I stopped bleaching my hair was more dry and breaking off. Turns out it’s low porous now therefore not accepting any of my expensive hair care. It caused breakage and extreme dryness after using even the most highly rated products. I even shed a lot more and lost quite a bit of hair. My hair had protein overload. Every single product I was using had some form of protein in it. It caused build up. So now that I know all of this. I bought a gentle clarifying shampoo and started using lightweight oils that are tiny on a molecular level so my tight porous hair will still penetrate it.
Same here. I thought I needed more protein and could never understand why products just never seemed to do much for me. It's still very confusing but I am finally learning.
what clarifying shampoo/conditioner did you buy and how often do you use it? What protein-free shampoo/conditioner set have you replaced with ?? also, what lightweight oils?
My hair is definitely naturally low porosity and then made high porosity by bleach and heat damage. It’s why my roots take SO long to dry. Literally upwards of 6 hours. But my mid lengths and ends dry pretty fast
Boah my hair is low Porosity and fine sooo its a struggle the only good thing is always shineyyy hahahah which products did you use before bleaching it
I have high porosity hair and these are the products I use! Loreal Bond repair shampoo and conditioner daily, YES I have to wash MY hair daily, if YOU don't that's YOU it's NOT ME! I also use Olaplex number 3# three times a week, I use Olaplex number 6# everyday, I use K-18 once a week, I use K-18 for a FULL week each month and once a week after the Full week! I use Sol de Janeiro milky leave-in conditioner daily! And My hair is beautiful! I have high porosity hair also!
I recently bleached my hair and I’ve lost all my curls. My hair is fried and extremely frizzy. I lost my natural hair texture. I’ve been using olaplex produts, I also used aphogee two step protein treatment once, But I still don’t see much difference. Any video I watch, they say wash atleast once or twice a week, no more than that as it will lead to more breakage. What do I do to get my hair back to how it was before all the bleaching😭😭
Girl, you’re the first person to help my realize I have a porosity gradient going on my head. At my ears and up is straight and can’t tolerate ANY product applied while dry or else I have to wash my hair the next day, issue with that is that my ends- would be FRIED if I shampooed every day (even though I don’t shampoo them at all lol). Below my ears are wavy 2C (I get away with by drying my hair and styling it in a way that volumizes the straight roots to make them appear curly to match my ends- and yes I use the oil to get this volume too lol, I’ll only ever add product here after using a clarifying conditioner because that’s the only time my roots appear parched! I do condition them and let it sit for a good while weekly/biweekly (when I wash my hair, shampoo is often only weekly depending on how sweaty/oily my scalp gets). My ends dry so fast I often add water to them if I wait too long to comb my hair after showering but midway up my hair- it takes FOREVER to dry. All day. Did the finger test and sure enough- exactly that too. Silky to rough. I have Virgin hair, maybe it’s because my hair has slowly been going down from 3a to 2b in curl and I haven’t been treating it right 🤷🏻♀️. I’ve learned I need to dry my hair in a twist to define my S waves to prevent frizz for how humid my area is. Often in a tight twists knotted into a bun (learned a less damaging but a bit more Ridiculous looking curly hair up method involved twists. Would also explain why I’ve been only able to use oils and leave in conditioner on my ends. 🤷🏻♀️ will definitely start looking into low porosity products for my roots as I think the key here is that I’m damaging the hair making it porous by not treating it at all with any products once dried. Especially cause it’s like I can’t do anything when my roots get frizzy too- can’t add product without it looking greased up. Hopefully this helps! I think coming from my 3a journey (and what a horrid teenage journey went from straight hair 1b to 3a/b after puberty before the curly girl method was popular… hair salons wanted to fry my hair straight, (well attempted to be straightened only to become a fuzzy Albert Einstein ball of frizz) I just wanted some curl help though back then before every hair routine was posted online 😭 to teach me what to do. I was 12 trying to brush it out. Hormones can do WHACK things to hair. Anyway, now as an adult my hair has over time lessened it’s curls to mid-waves and while it’s certainly nice to be able to comb my hair and not have to shower every-time to actually comb it through and detangle- it’s a very weird balance of defining the curl without damaging my hair, not using too much product to weigh down the hair but just enough to control the frizz. It’s a battle of oily vs frizzy hair… I miss being able to just put gel and gel into my hair and have it just kill the frizz without worry. Can’t even use gel now. Ugh.
This was really helpful, thanks! I only recently realised I had porous hair on a trip with some friends. We all had showers around the same time and while hanging out afterwards my hair was completely dry in about 5-10 minutes without the need for a hairdryer. My friends couldn't get over it lol as they were sitting there with their hair still totally wet, even the guys whose hair is so much shorter than mine. I'm so used to it that I hadn't really thought much about it but it made me realise it's not really normal so I looked up what that means. This makes a lot of sense and now I'll know what to look out for in hair products!
This was the first video to mention how density of hair can affect drying times. I was so confused about my hair porosity because it does get wet quickly but can take up to 2 days to air dry and I now think that is simply due to my hair density and not my hair porosity.
You can also use a flaxseed heat cap to deep condition. Jessicurl has a really good protein-free deep conditioner. CurlSmith in general has amazing products, protein free or protein. You should compare CurlSmith Bond Curl to Olaplex No. 3 and let us know what you think! I have wavy/curly hair so I'm all about hair porosity, clarifying, deep conditioning, etc. Lol.
thanks for the informative video! i’ve been struggling w my hair lately & all of the other videos on hair porosity have been done by our curly haired sisters, which i wasn’t sure applied to me (i have pin straight chemically treated asian hair)
I love that you share educational hair videos based on scientific evidence to support or negate ingredients rather than analytical evidence or beliefs based in greenwashing! Thank you!!! I'll forever be a follower
I have wavy bleached blonde hair and well let me tell you how Shea Moisture masks with protein ruined my hair! My hair now dries in literally 5 minutes (And before it would take forever to dry) and I have a lot of hair, it gets super frizzy and feels rough and tangled. I miss my hair before these masks. I’m experiencing a terrible protein buildup. I purchased a the Ouai Detox clarifying shampoo to get rid of this protein and I will update if you guys are curious.
@@SogDough hi can you please share the routine and products which fixed ur hair? im in the same situation right now..wont clarifying shampoos dry out our ends?
Absolutely love your videos & the time you put in studying each topic. My Nana who has been long passed, was a pioneer in all things beauty as well as being a Registered Nurse. She would use a similar rice treatment, she would wash her hair, apply the tice water put on a plastic shower cap & leave it on for 1/2 to an hour, rinse it out and style her hair (she had very nice hair to her waist & an wore it up when working) She would do the rice rinse every 4 to 6 weeks for 2 washes. Then twice a month she would do a final rinse using apple cider vinegar (she would make her own vinegar). She washed her hair every 5th day. She also would add vitamin E to her shampoo occasionally. Back then they only had one or two shampoos not the choices we have now...She used Ponds' cold cream, Prell shampoo then moved to Pantene when that became available.
I think I can never thank you enough for this informal video 😭💘 I have a 1c/2a, low porosity, light med density hair, and I’ve been struggling finding some products that suits my hair!! Thank you so much for this and I’ll sure try out these products 💗💗💗
Wonderful video with helpful tips! Would love a video on lightweight hair care, because I feel like a lot of the highly recommended haircare products are usually too heavy for my fine hair, even if I have a lot of it! If anyone has recommendations for shampoo and condition for fine hair that is lightweight, let me know! Have a great weekend!💕
I love the VERB Ghost shampoo and Ghost conditioner! I think they are awesome for fine hair. Makes my fine, medium density hair really soft but bouncy ;)
I’ve been trying to dive more into the science and my hair type. I believe my hair is 2a/2b, light porosity (resistant), oily roots, thin/fine hair and decently healthy hair. My biggest issue is that my roots can get greasy, but I find my miss to ends are a little more dry (lots of fly aways) if that makes sense I still don’t know what products to use…
lots of things may be a factor for you, and i don't know a lot so i'm just going to share what i know and hope this helps! from my own experience: if i use a conditioner with silicones (often an ingredient because they make the hair *really* silky smooth and shiny) and don't *also* use a shampoo with sulfates (usually present in the shampoos that are paired with silicone-having conditioners, and also present in clarifying shampoos), my hair would really quickly get super greasy-looking at my scalp, because there was a lot of buildup happening in addition to the natural oils on my head. it sounds like this might be part of your problem, where your natural oils at your roots are compounding the buildup from S&C sets intended for daily-ish use, but the rest of your hair is getting stressed by the shampoo and not rejuvenated-enough by the conditioner. these days i use a shampoo and conditioner (S&C) friendly to the CO-wash (Conditioner-Only) method (for me that means that i pick one from the TRESemmé Pro Style Tech line (they have lots of options that cater to your individual needs)), but i typically go ahead and use both shampoo and conditioner, not just the conditioner. CO-wash works for me, but it wasn't miles better than what i was already accustomed to (using both shampoo & conditioner). so i shampoo as normal, but i try not to get a lot of conditioner near my roots (works best when i turn my head upside down). Sometimes, when i want to just "spot clean" my hair (usually at my roots when it's been a rough day), i take the easy way out and CO-wash just that section.
a deep cleansing whole blends garnier shampoo is what saved me. Straight fine hair with sculp that gets oily fast. But I have a sensitive dry sculp so currently I switched to the coconut whole blends garnier shampoo, wich is for moisture. Any shampoos that says "repair/ for damaged hair/ for bleached hair/ with keratin" I cannot use. Instant oily hair the next day, especially if I use conditioners (only applied on the ends) give me buildup. My hair is very healthy, I try to wash it every 3-4 days. So if I wash it in the evening I'll apply hairoil on my ends a few hours before washing. When my ends feel dry I use a mask and follow that with conditioner. For me I max do this mask routine every 2 weeks. That works best for me.
I love Redken and Pureology, and also Olaplex. They make such a difference to my hair compared to if I use a cheap drugstore shampoo, which always seems to leave my hair like straw
Hi Abby, could you please make a video where you explain about the different types of shampoos and for what type of hair are they for. It is overwhelming shopping for a shampoo having to many to choose from. You have explained very well what is a clarifying shampoo but we have not only clarifying but frizz control, volume, for thinning hair, etc Thank you
I reeeeally appreciate you mentioning that hair type doesn't = a certain porosity. I have very very fine hair and in videos I'm often told fine hair has high porosity but I find that my hair is extremely resistant to absorbing anything and takes longer to dry than my friend's hair even though she has A LOT of coarse beautiful curly hair, seriously even when I had a pixie cut it just wouldn't dry for soooo long and it's such a pain in the behind because I don't really like spending time on my hair 😅 so I rarely blowdry it even though it always looks much better and obviously dries much faster. I think my hair may naturally have that scale pattern you talked about where it's overlapped too tightly, and that's why counterintuitively I've always thought my hair feels better and more manageable when I bleach it 😂 I think it just lifts the cuticles enough for it to be more manageable for me and easier to work with! Especially since I'm not doing any additional damage with heat or anything bc like I said I just really don't enjoy styling or spending time of my hair outside of the shower at all. I'm trying to get more into it and your videos definitely help though I think I'll always prefer skincare, or even doing makeup sometimes, to doing my hair 😮💨
I always assumed my hair was porous because I heard a long time ago that curly hair is porous, but after watching this video I think my hair is actually normal to low porosity. Good to know! 😊💜
Wow I learned so much about my hair from this! I always used to think I was sensitive to protien now it makes sense. I need more protien my hair is extremely damaged from dying every three week I can’t wait to get it to loom healthy. Still trying to figure out how to do a great refresh because I don’t want to wash it everyday.
My hair went porous as I hit my fifties. Not to the change of life yet but hormones are shuffling, and I'm sure it's a factor. All of a sudden, hair picked up color differently, frizzed, and became dry. Thank you so much for this video, my dear, it's brilliant.
I definitely had to try the Amika the Kure stuff cause of ur recommendation I love the conditioner and the shampoo I just got today can’t wait to try tomorrow 👍🏾
I have found that if I use the products when my hair is still wet and then blow dry it completely I don't get the gross white residue anymore. Give it a try! :)
I just used my cureology bond repairing shampoo and conditioner tonight from your suggestions! I also use the olaplex leave in and oil. I also use the kitsch hair towel lol!
thank you very much for all your super-informative videos on how to properly care for my hair! my hair is about 30 inches long, straight, fine, dense, and very low porosity. i really don't do anything to my hair other than S&C; no chemical treatments, no dyes, no heat (for styling or drying), no styling products. the results speak for themselves, but it's not a path that speaks to everyone. i'm blessed with good hair that is relatively easy to care for, and it is my priority to try to keep it in good condition so i can share the love for those who need it most: from time to time, i donate long lengths of my hair for cancer patients. giving the wig-makers quality product to start with (so they can craft beautiful wigs so the survivors can have confidence and pride in their appearance) is very important to me, so it's been equally important to me that my hair is as beautiful as possible with as little damage as possible. I really appreciate your help on my journey
How's your hair routine? I'm currently growing out my hair too, and try to keep it as virgin as it is before able to donate for the first time to those foundation who make wigs for the cancer patients. I'm living in Malaysia 🇲🇾 and the country is almost whole year hot and humid but I find my hair always passing the collarbone and then started to tangle. And I have dyshidrotic eczema. My hairstylist told me that I have normal scalp, not oily not dry, just normal. But my hair is quite brittle when it surpass the collarbone length =/ though I have straight hair, a lesser bend than this video creator's hair.
@@JoanKSX i live near the gulf coast of texas, which is fairly hot and humid but probably nothing on the level you experience in malaysia. my hair routine is very low-effort, but the most critical part is keeping it contained so it cant get tangled or caught on things. keeping a good balance has been the secondary secret to my success, and a minimalist product-list has been very helpful for me. your experience may vary. my advice is to find some fun and easy protective styles which work with the length of your hair. this will help it keep from getting tangled. you may also be experiencing what i might call “humidity frizzing,” and i think you can use shampoo-and-conditioner sets with argan oil to help smooth your hair (or add an argan oil step in your hair care routine in any way that makes sense for you). i keep my hair in one or two braids pretty much all the time (and when it isnt braided, i coil it into a bun which i secure with one or two hair sticks). i try to brush my hair out and braid it before i sleep (but sometimes i am too lazy xD it doesn’t hurt anything, its just easier in the morning). i wash my hair every other day (or so); i watch for signs that my hair is dirty or oily and needs to be cleaned, and then i wash it. if it’s been a handful of days between washing, i watch for signs that it’s getting frizzy and dry (more frequent in winter) and when that happens i wash it. on shower/wet-hair-days i just loosely braid (or bun) my hair until it dries and then i brush it out and restyle it. very rarely, i add some rosemary-and-tea-tree oil drops to my hair, but it really doesn’t seem necessary for my situation. the goal with hair products seems to be that i keep my hair moisturized with good conditioner (not ones with silicones) every time i wash it, and i try not to strip too much of my natural oils off by using strongly-cleansing shampoo (those with sulfates). simplicity and patience have been the keys to my success. best of luck!!🤞
@@ElizabethBeaver I see. But I think the current argan oil that I am using is causing me facial acne when I sleep on my hair accidentally LOL Still my hair snaps. I actually try to wash every other day but initially my scalp just grow so much painful acne. I think it's because of my dyshidrotic eczema. I'm thinking of using jojoba oil after I finish my current argan oil. I tried some like salon brand Paul Mitchell hair shampoo but my scalp just can't take it. Gradually it gets to the burning stage though I had dilute it. I use pretty commercial shampoo like Rejoice / Follow Me 4-in-1 / Fruisser and it's so-so. I know many commercial shampoo I just can't use like last time I just be mischievous and had the guts to try out the Head & Shoulder anti-dandruff hair shampoo and it burns my scalp like hell and my hair frizz like a lion LOL And I know Pantene for dry hair series causing me all the super big painful scalp acnes, so do Dove LOL Maybe my hair tend to frizz too. But I know baby shampoo really safe on my scalp especially those formulated for sensitive skin but it's not slippery at all and I have hard time to move around my hair and might causing some unnecessary hair pulling. 100 Percent Pure is okay (the Purist series for dry sensitive hair & scalp) but it's quite expensive for my budget. Hmmmm I guess I need to explore more. Thanks anyway =)
Thank you! This was so thorough and good . I have low porosity hair at the bottom yet I have frizz at the top. Thinking about it, it may be because the shampoo I use could have proteins and that’s what is breaking it, but I have understood that for my fine hair light products work best. However I never connected it with low porosity! Tusm
Thank you for this video. Found you because I was looking for information about how to manage my fine, thick hair, and was delighted to find you have that combo as well.
When you talked about how quickly your hair dries, did you say it opposite, because it was contradictory? Just wanted to double check, I’m feeling confused.
Notes - cuticle is made of overlapping scales - normal: scales lie flat so resistant to liquids - resistant hair: tight cuticle layer - high porous: cuticle is lifted and absorbs liquids What affects porosity - hair damage increases porosity - high porosity is damaged (closer to the ends) - high PH haircare causes damage How quickly you get wet in the shower - fast to get wet and dry (high porous) - whether products absorb (high porous) Tips - resistant hair - not overdo with products with proteins to avoid build up - porous hair - use more proteins - leave-in conditioners should be lightweight for resistant hair - deep conditioning hair masks for resistant hair - put hair up into towel or shower cap so allow heat to penetrate the hair
My hair isn’t damaged and it’s high porous. I take care of my hair. Don’t use heat, don’t blow dry it, all the things you should do to keep your hair healthy I do.
I can't seem to figure out my porosity :/ the outcomes for all of these tests contradict each other for me! If i run my finger over the hair it's bumpy (but i also have curly hair so i feel like it obviously is pumpy..). I feel like product just sits on my hair but i wouldn't necessary say it takes an extremely long time to get wet in the shower or dry after if i don't put it up in some way - also what is considered long? I also always felt like products with protein make my hair look better but i honestly am not aware of protein in my products if it's not specifically promoted on the packaging.. so i just can't say 😅 i also did a float test and one of the strands sank a little bit while another didn't even break through the surface of the water. But then again - why the bumpyness and everything else? I am just lost! Haha
This is a long shot but do you think you could do a video on how to build a routine where the porosity of hair is low at the roots and high in the middle to ends? I’m struggling to know if I should have a routine built for low porosity or medium?
My baby fine thin damaged hair gets wet quickly and takes forever to dry! My hair type is mostly straight with some slight waves. I have to flat iron it when it air dries to make it feel and look half way decent. Any suggestions?
Me too! You sound low porosity you may need to follow a curly GURL hair routine with lots of heat, steam, green housing and deep conditioning with almond, olive oil or jojoba oil
I have extremely thick, course wavy hair and it is naturally porous (the bleach and heat damage doesnt help also). I am trying to understand products to use and have invested in olaplex to help bond and hopefully treat my hair. I just moved to Florida and my hair is struggling to not be frizzy bc it just drinks up all the water in the air (the humidity) and I was wondering what can I do to help this? Will attempting to repair the bonds help this? Sorry this is very specific but I’m desperate at this point
Hi! You used the words high & low porosity interchangeably with resistant & porous. Could anyone better explain which goes with which? For ex: my fine, 1c/2a, highlighted (but also natural blonde) hair would wet & absorb water easily. So, I thought that = high porosity. Buttt.. my scalp is dry and itchy. By the end of a wash day I get oily roots. The rest of my hair would be dry, it needs lightweight products otherwise it will be weighed down. Please help I’m so confused 😕 thank you all!!
Sounds like you have fine, high porousity hair and an oily scalp. Those three things can happen at the same time. The itchy dry scalp thing suggests your shampoo is harsh for your scalp or you're washing your scalp too often. And your scalp may be producing oil to compensate. The shampoo might also be drying out your ends plus, it's high porousity. The weighed down look might be because you have fine strands. You probably need to use a less harsh shampoo/shampoo less often and add a tiny bit of oil to your ends after washing and conditioning. Resistant=low porousity (resistant to moisture etc) Porous= high porousity
@@daisiesandpandas1218 me to I have the same problem. What do you recommend? Any suggestions? Also thank you for this super informative video! I appreciate all the awesome information!
Lol I'm still confused the strand hair said I have low porosity hair but my hair gets wet quick and dries quickly. My hair is so frizzy and I have alot so maybe that's why idk . I might have to try protein to see if it's good or bad for my hair
I want to know how you've managed to grow your highly porous hair, I apologize if you've done videos on that already. I just got my hair bleached and highlighted but I made sure to buy hair oils, deep conditioning and protein treatments, and bond builders. I appreciate any and all tips and tricks you recommend as well. This would be the first time I dyed my hair in almost two years!
I literally have all the characteristics of low porosity hair except for the fact that my hair dries quite fast now I'm so confused if I actually have low porosity hair or not.
Hello Abbey! Thank you sOooo much! This makes so much sense now that I know this. The toner that my hairdresser used turned my blonde hair muddy. What toner do you recommend for porous hair? Thank you for all your amazing hair tips! I appreciate you!
I have recently found you and am watching all your videos! I'm in my early 60's and have had great hair really until the past year. I now have lots of breakage and your videos are so informative! I tried to also watch your video about ph that you have linked above but it's not available. Can I find it somewhere else? Thanks for all you do!
I need to be more mindful now of how much protein I put in my hair (it's super fine), and whenever I use shampoos and conditioners with protein, I lose so much more hair! Thank you for the info!
Abbey, because you get your hair colored.. how often do you use protein products or do you use protein and moisture in the same routine? After 5 years I finally got my hair highlighted so looking for routines and affordable products that are good for blonde hair.
Very informative video 😊 a few yrs ago, I started hearing about the no-poo movement. I never ended up doing that, but I wanted to see if my hair is naturally curly w/out using the drying hair products that I've always used all my life. My hair has always been so poofy & frizzy & crazy in the humidity, but wasn't quite curly, so I was curious! I switched to SheaMoisture products & my hair is now naturally wavy/curly! BUT, I noticed my son who is 1/2 Puerto Rican (I'm not), his hair is VERY repellent to water & is super thick & nothing seems to keep his hair from being crazy lol so I'm researching on how to help him😊 if anyone has any tips on Hispanic hair that's very low porosity & thick & somewhat wavy (it doesn't start curling until it grows a bit, for now it just grows upward & outward on the sides lol!!)
This was very interesting. I know I have very porous hair overall because I am a full platinum blonde and you gave a lot of great tips! How do you know if you have too much protein buildup with very porous hair? I've always been told to be careful about it but I've never had an issue either.
I'm curious about that too. They say that if a hair breaks off, you might have too much protein but my hair is snapping of anyways because it is bleach damaged...so I don't know...
This is kind of late but I had really bad protein overload a year and a half ago. One of the biggest things is it stopped feeling moisturized. I’d use hair masks but it only got dryer and more brittle (it was a keratin mask) and not matter how much conditioner I used it’d still feel kind of stiff and dry (not that smooth hair feeling you get when you usually wash out conditioner). Luckily I had a hairdresser who identified it and told me to stay away from protein for a while so now I am very careful with protein products 😅
😭 ok im so confused - i think i hv low porosity hair (leave in products almost always weigh it down and make it greasier, my hair doesnt get wet that quickly in the shower, i did the "water test" thingy too and my strand floats). but, the thing is, i also have crazy frizz problem. granted, i live in a tropical and a very veryyy very humid country. my hair is just always frizzy and i have to literally always flat iron it to make it less frizzy. regarding this frizziness problem, ive found that only intensive keratin treatment helps and make a difference, hands down. (its not a relaxing treatment, more like a heavy keratin/protein salon treatment that lasts 3 months or so). NOW im confused bcs ive always believed that in order to defrizz, u need more keratin/protein. hence that treatment working on me and so many other anti frizz product incorporating keratin. BUT as u also explained, as a low porosity haired girl, i should actually avoid more protein because my hair cuticles is already tightly closed to the point that its hard for moisture to get in, ans i dont want to experience a protein buildup. SO, what is the best way to approach a low porosity BUT frizzy hair? or am i understanding things wrong? 😭 would appreciate to get educated more on this
If you have frizz there’s hidden curls. Try Shea moisture leave in I love there marula/honey line. A lot of ppl don’t even realize they have wavy/curly hair but you have to train the hair. Protein is a big no on waves, curls and frizz. So try to avoid them and alcohol in hair products. Clarify your hair once a month. When you condition use a deep conditioner in replace of your normal hair conditioner then rinse in cool water. On frizz never let hot water hit it.
My hair takes longer to get wet and really long like almost a whole to dry. I never use heat. I bleached my hair and dyed once which I regret because since then my hair changed. It's super dry and absorbs product so easily. I could submerge my head in oil and it will be gone after so I think I have high porosity hair. It feels bumpy from the middle to end and my hair is waist length Asian straight black hair. Might also be why my hair changed from normal type to coarse and dry? Does high porosity also have to do with dry hair
I don't have damaged hair but low porosity hair can be the worst. Flat, heavy with no structure and no volume, gets greasy very quickly. I have a hard time to find a right shampoo and conditioner because everything weights it down terribly. I can't use any styling products because my hair get even heavier and with a lot of buildup.
I use at home Keratin treatments to control frizz and reduce need for hot tools, about 4-5x yr, but now I’m hearing that may be TOO MUCH protein and be causing more frizz in the long run. Help, I’m so confused! I have naturally curly baby fine, thinning, post menopausal hair which is completely different /healthy looking from the ears up but whispy thin below. Just chopped 5 inches off so it’s looking better but still not the hair of my youth. I also color it with Demi permanent color to cover the gray roots and add a couple of face framing highlights
I got the feeling from another video you did that you were not a fan of the Briogio moisturizing mask in the green jar because it doesn’t have silicones . My hair is in terrible shape and getting so thin. I thought I had protein overload and that Brigio mask seemed to help mine , but then you did a video saying that’s not a thing. I’m trying to find the info on the lady you like who is a hair scientist. 😃
Can I have high posority and protein overload?? I feel it gets wet and dries fairly quick, but I have tons of breakage and plit ends. I have very fine mostly straight hair but i feel it has lost its shine and soooo much breakage :(
High porosity -> damaged hair Low porosity is healthier Low porosity towards root of hair High porosity towards the ends of hair hence dry ends -------------------- High porosity is more porous and absorbs water & dries very quickly High porosity is more rough hair -------------------- Taking care: 1. Apply oil (thin coat DONT oversaturate before shampooing hair) 2. Deep condition hair mask in shower / after shower --- Protein shampoos: pureology, Amika
I have natural color and natural texture I just blow dry it 1 to 2 a week so I do think I have low porosity 😅 the soft texture do make my hair look better with soft textures and my hair have a serious build up problem
I tried the float test with a strand of clean 1/2a fine hair, which indicates I may have low porosity. But other things have implied a range from medium to high, so I am a little confused.
my scalp is high porosity but my hair ends are low porosity my ends will not hydrate no matter how many oils or hair masks i use its still dry af meanwhile my scalp is very soft and shiny until you reach my ends dry and rough im not sure if its split ends? my scalp is very oily but my ends are dry, my hair ends the ends dry super quickly like 5 mins which isnt normal meanwhile my scalp takes 2 to 3 hours and also fine hair type 1C
Seeing the krissten hair product recomendation made me not trust to much on this video, i do understand everyone is different but ive notice krissten product damaged my hair badly.
Hmm, I'm honestly still not sure what my hair is even after watching and reading up on all this. I have a TON of hair, like, it's extremely thick and heavy and wavy. It's the first thing any stylist mentions to me: "Wow, you have so much hair!" so I really struggle with finding out what products work. It feels like, because my hair is so thick, it's hard to tell what it actually needs. Either a product is way too heavy and my hair flattens and straightens from the sheer weight of everything (within the same day of washing as well!), or I use another product, and it feels just as dry and frizzy as if I wasn't using anything at all.. I always seem to miss the sweet spot!
This is me. My hair is long and super thick and wavy. I feel like my hair is never happy. The occasional good wash is always random and it seems like I can’t find a pattern of what’s good for my hair, and after all this research, I still can’t figure it out 😢
I’m wondering what your feelings are on salon treatments? I have extremely porous hair right now. I had a keratin treatment and have started getting olaplex treatments every time I get a color. Are they helpful for porous hair? Waste of money? The keratin made it slightly better but not a cure all. Would love your thoughts.
Hi maybe you can help 🙂 . My hair is fine with highlights . Cause of the bleach it's damaged . I tried Amika the cure olaplex pureology strength and cure Kérastase bain satin 1 . Always have the same problem STATIC. 😞. The only shampoo that does not give me static hair is Dove smoothing moisture for dandruff . Please help 🙏
I am glad the focus is on important things. My attraction would rise exponentially if you ladies could solve heavy oil with low permeability extraction from oil wells at a lower cost than today. Gather your collective expertise and lets do this ladies!
