Hey Phil! Thanks for sharing. I have a question. Other therapy backgrounds like LPC, LMFT and Clinical Social Workers have to do 3000 hours of supervised therapy to get licensed. Is that also true when you get your PhD? Or does you practicum count as that? I just started working on a masters in clinical psych in Texas. We can get licensed as a Licensed Psychology Associate. We would have to do the 3000 supervised hours. However, I plan to get my PhD so I was curious how that worked at the PhD/PsyD level. Thanks! Betsy

Hi great question! Generally in Psyd and PhD programs it is encouraged to get about 500-700 hours of practicum a year starting from your second year to internship. 1 year of internship and depending on what state you live in, one year of post doc or a fellowship after the internship usually meets all the hours required by each state for licensure. Although neuropsychology requires a 2 year fellowship after internship to meet most state requirements for specialization.
