As ABA practitioners, we have a wide variety of instructional strategies at our disposal. Here, we're going to talk about precision teaching, also known as fluency-based learning, and how it might help our pupils. In primary school, many of us recall being required to learn multiplication tables. Although it was a daunting task, it's likely that we still know every table by heart as adults because we were able to learn them quickly as kids. Math is taught in a very different way in classrooms nowadays. Fluency in operations like simple multiplication suffers, which has an effect on one's overall arithmetic abilities.
A method of teaching in ABA known as precision teaching, also known as fluency-based instruction, uses precise measurements and statistics to inform curriculum and instruction decisions. We talk about what fluency is and what it looks like in practice. Fluency helps our kids develop their skills, which is one way it benefits them. When chores can be completed quickly and easily, children are less likely to engage in problem or escape behaviors. We go over all the applications of fluency, such as social abilities like commenting. We also discuss ways to simplify and enhance the joy of precise instruction.
