What is Shoei PFS (Personal Fitting System) and how does it work?

Shoei P.F.S. which stands for Shoei Personal Fitting System is a computer-based model that, for the first time ever, allows a totally bespoke fit to be achieved, albeit only on a Shoei motorcycle helmet, of course.
Shoei PFS is now available in the UK and you can book an appointment by clicking the link below.
Shoei has always been ahead of the other manufacturers as far as custom fitting is concerned. For every single size of a given model, there are already at least three, and sometimes four, different cheekpad options. In every size there is also an option to fit a thicker or a thinner headliner.
But PFS takes helmet fitting to the next level. With PFS, Shoei has given us a way to ensure that there will always be the correct amount of room between the skull and the eps lining, to ensure a comfortable fit. Never again, in theory, should anybody have to endure a helmet that is so tight that it causes pain. Or so loose that the helmet moves about at speed.
Of course, in reality, it will never be quite so black and white. Everybody feels things differently. Some like a helmet to be very snug; some cannot bear any pressure; and the bottom line is that not everybody is going to agree with what Shoei believes is a perfect fit.
But PFS provides a far better starting point than we've ever had in the past.

I went from Canada to Motolegends to get fitted with a helmet because i could not find anything in Canada or a store that cared about providing fitting or good service. Having seen their videos and commitment to fitting a helmet to a rider i flew to England to go to their shop. I was not disappointed Chris immediately had one of the staff use the PFS on me and spend a half hour fitting me. The helmet is great and very comfortable. I will always go back to see them when i need a helmet. Oh and by the way it was $500 cdn cheaper than buying the same helmet in Canada. I am a big supporter of Motolegends and their great service

Hiya. Interesting. Just stumbled across your video. I had this service done last night in fact, for an Ex-Zero. By a certified Shoei ‘helmet fitter’ (at a shop here in Japan). Ended up having a couple of pads fitted to even out the fit & make contact everywhere. Have to say, the helmet now really does seem to fit well. Colour me impressed.

Excellent presentation as always, Chris! I know your 3 most important considerations for a helmet are fit, fit, and fit, but for me it's also noise, noise, and noise! I used to fly a microlight aircraft and many aviation helmets are made with a bulge for the ears with ear defenders incorporated. Never understood why motorcycle helmet manufacturers don't do something similar. Doesn't have to be as pronounced as aviation helmets, but something to allow a more shallow built-in ear defender would be the holy grail! Even some sort of continuous 'donut' around your ears would be a start. Anything to negate having to stuff things in your ears, n'est pas?

Its good to know you can adjust a shoei helmet so much from new, and then back to "as new fitment" should someone want, later down the road.. no one wants to wear a helmet out prematurely, especially as most of us would just lump it until replacement time.. it smells like shoei understand how to keep that brand loyalty..

Yet another brilliant and informative video. The obvious passion that this guy has for what they do really does shine through. This system looks like it's going to move buying a helmet (a Shoei helmet at least) onto a whole new level. Keep up the good work guys

I went in to a local store today hoping that an NXR 2 would be my next helmet, but it seems i have quite the oval head - the Shoei was obviously pressing across my forehead, and the best fit i found was actually in a Scorpion helmet. I didn't make a purchase today, but now I'm interested to understand whether PFS could make an NXR 2 work for me. What do you think Chris, is PFS the answer?

But new helmets will feel tight then when it gets used alot the liner molds to your head shape but your head is a different shape.

Sorry, don’t know where this comes from. The eps liner doesn’t mould to your head, and will only shrink by about 3% a year. The inner comfort liner is just that; it cushions your head for comfort; it doesn’t mould or change shape; certainly in the short term. Yes, everything relaxes over time, but always better to start with a good fit than a poor one. CP

It's is all cool and well, but my dealer (official Shoei Competence Center) charged me extra for thicker cheek pads. On an almost 700EU Helmet (Neotec 3) that is just sad and kinda clouds the image Shoei sells to us with the PFS. It feels a bit shady and left me wishing I had gone for an Arai. Well... to late.
@Motolegends

Your dealer is potentially dodgy. At the point of purchase, pads and liners should be free. If, however, you left it until you had owned the helmet for a while, you would have been charged. Same scenario with an Arai, though. CP.

@@Motolegends No, I don't even have the helmet yet. Will be delivered next Tuesday, because he had to source a color for me. I will talk to the dealer and write Shoei to complain. Thank you, Chris.

@@piogasioWhat country was it in? I'm tempted to buy the GT Air 3 to replace my Neotec 2, but the GT Air 3 in the color I want is 729€ everywhere... + 60€ for the P.F.S. ! :( (Belgium)

@@G91YS in Germany. But what is even worse - Shoei do state that on their website that they charge extra for cheek pads. But in ALL the promo materials I have seen so far regarding PFS no one mentions this. Very disapointing and dishonest bait tactic. Basically false advertising and I partially blame Shoei, partially moto reporters since no one mentions this. Sorry Chris. And don't get me wrong - 40€ extra does not make me poor, but it just leaves a bad aftertaste. Was expecting better form a "premium" brand.
