This is probably what I have. A bit confusing since they seem to be triggered by allergen exposure. I'm allergic to birch - not just the pollen but the leaves, etc. I went out to rake leaves, I wore an N95 mask but took it off when I was finished with the leaves and watered some plants. I guess the dust from the leaves was still in the air; it was a relatively dry day. I developed a migraine with all classic symptoms; my sinuses and eye on the same side also were inflamed. The headache is mostly gone but the sinuses and eye are still inflamed. This happened the first time I raked leaves in the season and did not wear a mask. I'm a middle aged woman on menopause HRT. I can't really rule out a lingering infection though since the back of my throat tends to taste bad when I wake up. I also have sicca. I've been checked for Sjogren's and Lupus autoantibodies - all negative. I lose so many days to migraine. I'm afraid to take aspirin (which does relieve my migraines) since I have low eGFR for my age; the aspirin also worsens my tinnitus. I take 325 mg aspirin if I feel I might vomit or can't stand up from dizziness. The other thing that really helps is an ice pack, but I can't do much with an ice pack on my head. I noticed I tend to put the ice pack over the trigeminal nerve ganglion - the light pink structure in the figure at 1:13 . I wouldn't think the cold would reach that deep, perhaps it is affecting afferent nerves in the skin.

Look up hemi-crania continua. Also, you might want to be checked for spore exposure.

Any downsides to using abortives / tryptans besides cost? My sister had severe migraines & used them - they must not have worked very well since she wound up taking beta blockers. Then she had a series of strokes. I'm estranged from her new due to dysfunctional family issues so I don't know what her health situation is currently. Years ago she said she experienced relief from migraines when she took a spin class - a form of HIIT training using a stationary bicycle. I need to get back to doing cardio, as it does seem to help. I suspect she may be a gene carrier for familial Mediterranean fever since I am (twitchy NLRP3 inflammasome). Low dose colchicine is being tried for CVD - I wonder if it could be used for migraine prevention.

I’ve been taking sumatriptan for over 25 years. Prior to diagnosis, I always thought that my migraines were due to allergies and mucus overproduction, so I was using OTC allergy and migraine medication. It wasn’t until I saw a neurologist that I discovered they were possibly four types of migraine: sinus, hormonal, barometric and stress. I also on occasion get cluster “headaches“, oh my gosh are they painful, like otherworldly pain, hell on earth. Also, migraine can be caused by PT SD or C P TSD (I can’t type those as one abbreviation, for some stupid reason they get my comments removed). Anyhow, I’ve had cat-scans and the doctor found some scarring fr migraines-it does cause damage with or without the sumatriptan, there’s a lot of evidence out there.

Triptans are a vasoconstrictor, they constrict all the capillaries in your body when you take them. I’ve developed Raynaud’s phenomenon. Probably from years of triptan use. Ironically, Raynaud’s is a contraindication for triptan use.

Thanks for this info. I have symptoms of erythromelalgia. Some ppl say they are 'opposite' conditions - but I don't think so. I think they may share underlying mechanisms. There are people who have both Raynaud's and erythromelalgia. My fingers also hurt a lot when I touch very cold things. @@MRCATWRENCH

Why is every headache now called a migraine? I can understand up to 10-20 years ago, when "migraine" was all they had, but there are now many new headache names out there, yet migraine is still used willy nilly.
