"It can take up to four days to recover from one hour of lost sleep and up to nine days to eliminate sleep debt" I don't know how I am alive

tbh it is bullshit, I am going to review the paper since I have a B.S in biology and working to get into med school. Meaning I will understand it better than the common joe. But do the math, research says that a new born baby causes a couple to lose 6 months of sleep over the course of 2 years or so I think, i do not remember. But if that was the case and every hour needs about 4 days to recover means you will never recover. But we usually don't see people die after having 1-3 kids, and what about our grandparents and great grandparents, they had on average 5-12 kids in the countryside. If they last 6 months of sleep to each kid than they must have lost 2.5 -6 years of sleep, and most of them lived to be 60-80 years old if they did not have a major illness as antibiotics were not that avaible to everyone after wwii. also the conclusions make no sense logically. What do they mean it takes 4 days, like a whole 24 hour of 4 days, meaning you have to sleep 96 hours just to make up 1 hour of lost sleep? or do they mean 4 days of regular 7-9 hours of sleep, which still requires about 28-36 hours of sleep to make up 1 hour of sleep. There is another problem, and that is how mush sleep do you need? 7-9 is great but how do I know if my body needs 7 hours or 8 or 9, and what if my body needs 7 one day, and 8 the next day. How would I know and why would my body change in the amount of sleep it needs day to day if I have no sleep debt. Also we know things change as new borns sleep like 14 hours a day, kids and teens need about 8-10 hours, most adults 7-9, but many doctors say 6 is the minimum you can get to function and be relative healthy. So that's a major issue I have seen no one using the results of the study have address. But besides that there is evidence that the more sleep deprieve you are the faster your brain goes into delta waves. You have alpha waves (awake), beta waves (relaxing), theta waves (light sleep), delta sleep (deep sleep), and REM sleep (rapid eye movement (aka dream state). Most researchers say most of your recovery is done during the delta wave stage that I think last 20-30 minutes of so (i do not remember but I know one sleep cycle is about 90 minutes long), but if you are heavily sleep deprieve you will not need to take about 30-40 minutes to have 20-30 minutes of delta wave sleep followed by 30 minutes of REM sleep. That is because your body tries to recover and go faster into the delta stage and keeps you there longer, so if you lack sleep for 3 days in a row, instead of going from beta to theta to delta all in 40 minutes, your brain may do it in like 10-20 minutes, as now your delta stage last 30-50 minutes or so compared to 20-30 minutes. I have never heard anyone talk about this fact when they refernce the study. Now I believe you can make up sleep debt even ones that lasted years, but it will take a long time. And you can reverse the damage with NAD+ ivs, exercising, lowering stress, eating antioxidants, getting vitamin d, eating healthy, lots of cardio, and various things that lower inflammation, increase or stablize the shortening of telemores, and things that improve your body. Hopefully more advances in regeneration happens that ppl can reverse such damages to the body and can live up to 150 to 200 years

@@dannyboy218It is not cumulative. You only need about 10 days having a good night's sleep to get healthy.

I'm 41. The majority of my adult life has been 6 hours or less sleep. I've noticed negative Cognitive effects for years. If I get on a sleep regimen, with on time, will healthy Cognitive functions be restored?
@SleepIsTheFoundation
@SleepIsTheFoundation 7 месяцев назад
That's a great question to bring to a physician! But generally speaking, research has shown that quality sleep supports -- and even boosts -- our cognitive functioning. So prioritize getting as much sleep as possible!

I randomly have 2 hours, 4 hours, 5 hours, never to exceed 6 hours. I likely average 18 hours Monday - Friday total. Very frustrating and worries me for my health long term. For some reason after one bad night sleep (4 hours), I get a feeling of anxiety and feel like I can't get comfortable, like I can't pop my back and follow up with 2 hours or so. My doc gave me a prescription of Lunesta for a week as she wanted me to catch up, but that just made me continue the trend but feel out of it when I am up through the night. Haven't had a sleep study, and the pattern has gone on for going on 18 months. I used to use alcohol to fall asleep, but cut that out to ensure I am around for the marathon. I began intermittent fasting to avoid drowsiness or falling asleep during the day. Anything carb or sugar heavy almost has me blacking out and losing conscience for a few minutes and realizing I had just typed something completely random sending an email or not realizing I was mid conversation and how to follow up.

Did you try 0% thc CBD? It’s the best thing for me, if that doesn’t work smoke 100% or close to it, indica this will tranq you with no paranoia, but take baby hits and don’t inhale for long

So if I stay up all night then get 14 hours of sleep the next night do I make up for that night up? If not hhow much sleep is required to make up for that one night?
@SleepIsTheFoundation
@SleepIsTheFoundation 7 месяцев назад
Hmmm... I like the way you're thinking. Unfortunately, your body doesn't quite work like a bank account. It needs consistent, regular sleep as much as possible. Especially as you get older.
@legodudelol9a

So basically instead of a normal increase in need of sleep it's more like an exponential increase in sleep you need the less you sleep?@@SleepIsTheFoundation
