You have a point there; we use the term "stock" as that is the height and ride someone will get with that spring, yet get the benefits of the extra 5% rate to help with added loads most GX470s end up having.

We specialize in Ford Broncos and Toyotas, so for your specific application on a Expedition, we would not have much direct tech on that. However, most stiff rides come from the shocks, especially if you have stock springs. Well wishes with your project.

In a big way! Comfort is archived by more coils or thiner wire, or combo of both. However handling is firmer so the opposite what is needed for comfort. This is why a properly engineered and balanced coil is key for the application its used on. The long travel spring in the video has a bit of both since its a duel rate spring. That transition part of the spring is where the comfort of the ride comes in.

Depends on the application. On the back of a FJ Cruiser, yes. More coils will be a softer spring usualy and a tall spring is fine as long as the solid "stack" height of the spring compressed 100% (coils touching) is less than the bottom out point of the suspension range of travel. If its more, then you bottom out your travel by the spring compressing 100%, that will be a very shocking, jarring bottom out!

The spring rate is the amount of force to compress it. The higher the rate the more force needed to compress it.

The 3rd spring is our MT4x4 rear long travel spring. We have them in two heights, one +2 and one +3"; however weight load of the truck will lower those, the 3+ is considered our HD long travel spring.

Not for motorcycles etc. but the concept of the springs would be simular as to how they work.
