I know they worship the movie canon, but they're not going to get everything to line up. And using a red lightsaber/the Dark Side doesn't necessarily make one a Sith; Dark Jedi are a thing (see Baylan Skoll as an example). Maybe that's semantics, but I do think it makes a difference. The Sith also just don't have a monopoly on red lightsabers or the dark side. Someone could come to those on their own, similarly to how you have Force 'sects' in a lot of species in Star Wars, the Kel Dor being a prime example. The lightsaber is a little more specialized, but the point stands. Not trying to dunk on you, more just giving a bit of hope that you can maybe afford to get attached to some of these characters.
@anthonyrodriguez8788

Just because they have a red lightsaber doesn't make them Sith. Heck even Jedi Survivor introduces us to a High Republic Jedi who turned his lightsaber red without being a sith.

Yes, any Jedi who "knowingly" faces a Sith will have to die. I'm guessing there will be a big reveal with Lee Jung-jae's character, showing him what his former Padawan has become, and then he will die, probably at her hand. I predict Vernestra will find out about the Sith and die too. But the Sith are only one specific class of dark-side Force users. A Jedi who simply sees a red lightsaber and lives isn't a problem. The Jedi believe the Sith to be extinct; therefore, their first conclusion will be that this is just a former Jedi who's gone to the dark side and bled their crystal, or one of the other dark-side Force users around at this time. By the way, there were also other groups of light-side Force users. We meet some of them in the High Republic books and comics. It's interesting when they're all at Jedha. Some Force groups are neutral too, and others, like the Path, believe that no one should use the Force.

In the Prequel Era we see both the Jedi and the Republic on a slow downward spiral being exacerbated by the Sith, and that's our main reference for the Jedi Order, games and other stories before this have largely modelled the Jedi on their prequel era state. I think the point of the High Republic is twofold: First: To show both the Jedi and the Republic in a time period where things were working a lot better, not perfect, but the Republic was less corrupt and the Jedi were more emotionally healthy, less strict about their rules being followed to the absolute letter and gave more individual freedom to it's members (the Wayseekers being a key example), I mean these two organisations lasted for THOUSANDS of years, meaning that for most of it things more or less worked. Second: To show how the crises they face (The Path, the Nihil and these assassinations etc) begin moulding both groups into how we see them in the Prequel Era.

The point of the high republic is to make a new era for Disney to franchise. An era they can take whatever creative liberties they want, and it's gonna backfire immensely. The leaked plot details about Acolyte are probably going to sink the high republic altogether.

@@KarazolaX Oh they would, a lot of the “hater” or “Fandom Menace” RU-vidrs out there seem to be motivated more by personal politics than anything else, an obvious example of this being how they complained about Cara Dune being another Mary Sue, only to do a complete 180 upon discovering Carano’s political beliefs. I try to avoid going into things with a closed negative mindset. Star Wars is and always has been a mixed bag writing wise, but I can always find something to appreciate, the Book of Boba Fett for instance was a fairly mediocre series, but it’s second episode where it focuses on Boba with the Sand People was among my favourite Star Wars TV episodes of all time.

Were they? Qui-Gon kept relying on the Force to "present solutions" but he was clearly an outlier. The Jedi only relied on the Force to help the overcome the difficulty of non-lethally subduing lethal force (something real life police struggle with). The Jedi mainly relied on negotiation, understanding, and their reputations as ambassadors to solve issues. Remember, Episode 1 starts with Jedi negotiators being treated like a great thing that only failed because of Sith meddling.

Thank you for providing a Star Wars show preview. There's plenty of clickbait out there. But this video was thoughtful fan contant. All Star Wars fans care about is how a show makes them feel. If a fan loves the lore then the value of how a show grows the universe- thats important to them too. If it feels like Star Wars and the lore grows- that's all a lot of us care about. We stopped letting others tell us what to feel about Star Wars decades ago.

A point was made to me last night. People are forgetting the conversation in the council when Qui-Gon first reports seeing Maul. Master Cone-head tells Yoda - sith are extinct, no one has seen a sith in a thousand years. - No one has seen a sith and lived.... Anyone in this show who sees a red blade must die. I'll let that simmer. There are sith in play in the back ground at this time, Plagueis's master for example. I forget his name.

The setting concept and showing how the Republic failed to tame the Outer Rim and how it decayed into what it was in Phantom Menace is good, but the material used to show it has not gotten good reviews. It has potential as a setting. The worldbuilding and era of history for it is interesting and I think some really good stories can be told here. If Disney can manage to do that is the real question. The show runner for this is not very experienced as far as I can tell and that worries me a little, but if she listens to the crew around her that know how to make Star Wars and she has real passion for the setting, we should get something good out of it.
@erinm9445
@erinm9445 7 месяцев назад
The (lack of) passion is the problem. Nothing live action Disney has put out--outside of Rogue One and Andor--has felt driven by passion for the material and the stories that are told. Or if passionate people are involved, their voices get overwritten by studio interference. It all just feels like pandering to some idea of what a hypothetical audience would want. Ironically it's the animated shows that seem much more passion-driven, maybe they can get away with it since they have a smaller audience and are taken less seriously.
@KnightsWithoutATable
@KnightsWithoutATable 7 месяцев назад
@@erinm9445 The animation, Clone Wars and Bad Batch, are pure, unfiltered Dave Filoni channeling his full passion with no studio interference. Remember how good the first and second seasons of the Mandalorian were? That was him as well, before the studio execs. saw that it was super popular and get involved. They have a guy right there that can make Star Wars for them and can probably green light other creators to make similar projects. He spent years hanging out with Lucus asking about all the little details of the setting and what the plans were for the setting, from the original concept to what Lucas had planned to do with it as a grand design. Filoni is also really into legends and has been incorporating many of the fan favorites into his works. He's why we have Grand Admiral Trawn as cannon and loose in the galaxy right now. The good news is that the CEO of Disney that oversaw the launch and success of the Marvel cinematic universe is back in charge and he has reorganized not only that part of the company, but also placed Dave Filoni as Creative Director of the studio for making all Star Wars. As I said before, the setting they have established is good and has the potential to have good stories told in it. We just have to hope that this inexperienced show runner was chosen for her talent, the story she wanted to tell, and her passion for Star Wars.

@@KnightsWithoutATable That's why I specified live action. I love all the cartoon stuff. And of the live action Ahsoka is my fave, though I think it would have been much better if it was animated, making it live action kind of bogs it down and makes it feel more serious or something, which makes it not work as well. I have never gotten the Mandolorian love though, I watched the first season and a few eps of the second and I just couldn't get into it. I've never really liked westerns much, so maybe that's the problem? But yeah, I do generally agree with you about Dave Filoni, but also agree that, outside of the cartoons, the studio seems to interfere with his stuff too much.

@@erinm9445 The problem Disney has with Star Wars live action boils down to one person, and she is a serious problem. They rewarded her for negotiating the sale of Lucas film to Disney for a really good price and she is really good at merchandising and promotion campaigns, but she should never be allowed on a studio lot in a million years. She is responsible for the mess that was the sequels and all of the problems in every live action project that Disney has done for Star Wars. They need to take her power away at the very least and firing her would not be off the table with how badly she has messed up. i'm sorry but Mandalore being liberated in the live action series is a much bigger deal than you give it credit for. the mandalorians in legends brought both the republic and sith to their knees at various points in history to the point that jedi such as Reven turned to the darkside because of their hatred of mandalorians for the horrors of their crusades, not to mention the pre-clone wars civil war that pitted Jaster Mereel's reformists against Death Watch who wished to continue those crusades. Mandalore's return has the potential to bring a great deal of good or evil to the galaxy depending on how they proceed.

I’ve read most of the high republic literature out there and can catagorically say this show has a lot of fantastic and mysterious world building to work off. Yes the high republic was a time of prosperity, but it also showed how the arrogance of the jedi was beginning to become their downfall even then - and how much coverup was really going on. Unknown poorly glossed over disasters that come back to haunt them. Can’t wait to see how the show builds on that!

I look forward to it. I haven't read the High Republic materials as there is just other stuff in Star Wars that has my attention. It could be very cool. I have been around from the beginning and have seen "a lot of strange stuff" as Han Solo would say in the EU/Legends over the years. Some of it great and some total crap. I don't have such a negative view of the sequels and look forward to the Rey-focused movie. Some of the prequel era stuff was very good and some not so much. I just consume it as it comes and as I can make it fit into my life. I loved Andor, but I loved Rogue One so I suppose that is to be expected. It would be cool if this effort lights a new fire in our bellies.

@grayflaneur4854 I'm a fan, from standing in line for the original movie with my siblings and a parent to standing in line with my children. I suppose if my life was perfect and I never had / stumbled / lived thru that kinda sucked moments of my own, I could be righteously judgmental of a movie franchise, whoever is in the driver's seat; but alas, Star Wars [and other franchises] are no more perfect that I, and yeah, I can accept that while hoping they learn from their mistakes just as I have. Rogue One and even Kenobi were awesome for me and Boba Fett rocked im[one of the few]ho. There's been enough groovy over kinda sucked to give me this hopefulness. Not to mention the diversity stuff wasn’t the main reason the sequels sucked..the sequels at least after the fist one were just bad they were rushed and they were only really made to sell merchandise because they where made by Disney who Is a company and company’s only care about making money and since most people in modern times are more diverse they make stuff more diverse so they get more people to watch their stuff and buy their stuff. Even tho I do not think Disney Star Wars is no longer for me I just hope it reaches the young audiences that George Lucas has always intended to reach. I’m not expecting it to be epic or suck I’m just hoping it reaches a new audience that could latch on for generations to come. I’m hoping that the age gap in Star Wars is a thing and the young ppl that are in these projects could captivate the very audience they represent. I always agreed with George when he said Star Wars is for the kids. And here we have a very youthful auditions that’s ready to take on the helms and carry Star Wars for the next generations to come.

My predicition: I bet this show actually gives us very little details about the state of the galaxy during the High Republic. It'll follow 3 or 4 lackluster characters with unclear motives around the galaxy who speak in poorly written one liners and spend a lot of their time battling enemies who's origins and goals are also unclear. It'll take place mostly on new fringe planets (instead of well established ones) who's locations and relationship to the rest of the galaxy are also unclear. We will come away with nothing but questions about the timeline and how what we are seeing fits into anything leading to the prequels because the show won't really address this.

The point is, the Golden Age has stories which could be retold. Everything could have been retold. And Legends did exist before Disney, but it was for the distant future of the universe, which eother loosely based itself in the orig trig or didn't, or for the obscure or funny comics. I haven't seen the trailer for the series yet, but I have come across the "Acolytes" name in Star Wars via various sources. Seems interesting and it (hopefully) will be a nifty alternate to just "current" Star Wars lore (i.e., the Skywalker era.) From the way the faction is described, "The Path" seems akin to Earth's European "Dark Age" when Catholicism violently persecuted those persons of "pagan" religions, who practiced alternate forms of worship or "magick" (old English spelling used today to differentiate between "energy spell work" and fictional or illusional "magic.") Basically, the leaders and followers of the Catholic faith (at the time) considering the practice of "magick" to be heresy and therefore punishable by imprisonment, torture and, of course, even death.
