Have you done an updated video regarding Heat pumps for 2023/24
@markgaudie80

I live in a 1952 older 3 bed semi but we have done a lot of added building work of late. New windows and doors right through, large loft conversion and we have extended down the side of the house and around the back with underfloor heating in that new L shaped extension. We do have all cavity wall insulation which is a bonded bead type. After our home visit and full survey for heat loss they estimate a 6kW heat loss figure.
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman 2 года назад
It sounds as though the work has paid off if that is the heat loss calculation for your home. Increasing the radiator sizes, if you can, will enable you to run at a lower flow temperature enabling a higher efficiency, so worth considering.

@@dorewoodman yes we have considered making 2 of the radiators upstairs in the bedrooms double convectors over single ones.

This was an extremely informative video as I have been offered a Mitsubishi by an MSC recommended fitter but my local authority had used a Vaillant for a retrofit they had just done and I wasn't sure which would be better. The fitter has promised to do a full evaluations when he comes to see me so we will know what size I need but I do like the idea of the R290 refrigerant that the Vaillant uses so I might be able to pursued him to try a different manufacturer. I have just started on a renovation of a 1950's semidetached single brick bungalow - It will have a wrap around extension to two sides and external insulation on the front, roof has been removed and will have a 2 bedroom one bathroom dormer. The builder knows I want extra insulation on the party wall and as I am having under floor heating throughout. This should suit an ASHP perfectly.

Great video, what happens if there is no available space for hot water cylinder, can an existing combi be maintain just for hot water only and secondly would be great to see the apps for smart control and can existing Nest, Hive, Vaillant smart controls be maintained
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman Год назад
Hi Chandresh, technically you can install a heat pump to just serve the heating system, however, with a boiler in place you wouldn't be entitled to the BUS Voucher. Should you have limited space for a cylinder itself you could look at the SunAmp as an alternative, less space required, or if you have a loft space for a cylinder at all? As for Nest and Hive etc. They would be able to use these thermostats although they will only be in place to simply turn on or turn off the heating. The heat pump controllers will take care of the rest i.e. weather compensation, flow temps, hot water cycles etc.

I have an installer looking to specify Mitsubishi , he notes Vaillant customer support is poor and that he says their controls were variations off their gas boilers . The Mitsubishi though were the result of their experiences in the air to air market . I still can not decide which manufacturer to go with .

Any opinions on Viessmann heat pumps?
@markgaudie80
@markgaudie80 2 года назад
We use about 14,000kWh of gas per year and based on 2.3p we used to be on with our tariff it was pretty cheap. But the prices rising to nearly 8p now it’s not looking good for gas. There will be a carbon tax coming soon on the gas I can assure you. The government will force the market to come away from gas by hitting everyone in the pocket. So this is why I’m looking at air source now and I’m also interested in the green credentials.

Hi, love your videos!! I am interested in installing a aroTHERM hybrid heat pump along with an oil boiler as it would be for a very large 200 years old property.. Any thoughts on efficiencies of hybrid installments? I just do not want a conventional oil boiler option, but given age of the building a hybrid system sounds like a good compromise..
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman 2 года назад
Hi Ziya, thank you for your kind comments. A Hybrid/Bivalent system is a great idea. Ok it isn’t 100% green but it will reduce the emissions significantly. The important thing is that it is designed correctly and really thought about, also if you are looking to take advantage of a grant or incentive (dependant on the time of year for potential installation) Installation commissioned and documentation completed before the 31/03/2022 will enable you to apply for the Renewable Heat Incentive, however; the installation will require an MMSP (monitoring and metering services package) where you will be required to submit quarterly meter readings. If you were hoping to take advantage of the boiler replacement scheme, which is the £5,000 grant from the 1st April 2022, the installation wouldn’t qualify due to the boiler in place.

@@dorewoodman Thanks so much Dore.. The property is in Belfast, I think the RHI is suspended here.. But as you said main focus is lowering the emissions from consuming purely oil, also cost of oil.. So I am trying to pin down how a Valliant or Grant hbyrid systems could work.. If there was a chance of working with you even for planning/design, I would welcome!! though obviously the location is far for you

Hi Jason, yes Solar PV can absolutely assist, there are a number of ways and it all depends on the system you have installed, battery storage, heat pump and cylinder selection etc.

@@BrianCripps I have done a review on RU-vid for both the Ecodan and Arotherm Plus that answers the question in more detail, but essentially it depends on the size of the heating system. Generally the buffer vessel is good practice but isn't always required for the Ecodan as it has a larger water and evaporator capacity and is able to defrost without affecting the heating system. It also has a Low Loss Header attached which takes care of heating zones and hydraulic pressures/balancing. The Vaillant on the other hand requires the buffer vessel for both hydraulics (maintaining balanced flow rates in the heating system) acts a bypass should all radiators or UFH zones shut down in operation and uses the warm vessel of water to defrost the heat pump without impacting the heating or hot water. I hope that makes sense.

Hi, I've installed radiant floor and Recovair VAR260. At this moment I'm deciding about the water heat source. Can you please help clarifiyng what could be the best proposal for heating water and heat/cool the house? Vaillant is a good solution? what is your diagram proposal? My house is a one floor house with 250m2. Many thanks.

The whole question of specifying heat pump installation is above the knowledge of general homeowners - plenty of opportunity to be soundly ripped off by sales people. Commercial building owners obtain independent advice from a BREEAM qualified person before committing to systems they don't understand! Homeowners could do the same but just settle for incomprehensible data being thrown at them by sales people, assume it must be right and pay up!
@dorewoodman
@dorewoodman 3 года назад
In some instances I am sure that does unfortunately occur. It is important that the homeowner receives all of the relevant MCS and RECC documentation and reads through the terms of business before signing a contract and parting with any money. All works carried should be protected with insurance backed warranties. Should any issues arise the end user is protected and will have the full support from both the MCS accredited body and RECC.
