My 5th fuel comparison video and boy oh boy was it ever the most demanding! A GIGANTIC thank you to PG Performance, as well as all of the other individuals that donated to my GoFundMe. Those funds paid for all of the fuel, as well as all the dyno time that was needed to make this video possible. I hope you all find this information worth your investment!
Now that we have three different fuels with an octane of 93 or higher (all with up to 10% ethanol) available to us in the Lower Mainland, BC, Canada, it was time for another fuel comparison. We tested the following fuels:
Shell 93
Chevron 94
Esso 93
Shell 92 (from Washington State)
Shell 91
Costco 91
After all was said and done we collected a TON of data and found what we believe to be the best performing pump gas in Vancouver, BC, Canada. What a day!
PG Performance is located at 10825 148th Street, Surrey, BC, V3R 3Y2. They can be reached at info@pgperformance.com or check out pgperformance.com/ for more details.
All dyno testing is performed at Racing Greed located at 1650 Broadway St Unit 110, Port Coquitlam, BC V3C 6P8. They can be reached at rg@racinggreed.com or check out www.racinggreed.com/ for more details.

A few things I forgot to mention while making this video are as follows: - Every time we changed fuels, we completely drained the tank to do our absolute best to not contaminate the next fuel sample with the previously tested fuel. - We used a 'Drain Fuel' function using Integrated Engineering tuning software to empty the tank. It runs the Low Pressure Fuel Pump. We connected an external fuel line to the fuel system, and we ran it until the tank was completely dry. - The dyno numbers that are shown are uncorrected. - These test results ONLY PERTAIN to the area surrounding Vancouver, BC, Canada. Fuel will differ all over the world, and by no means do these tests represent fuel found at these particular brands all over the world. Thanks for watching!

I could not agree more. Adam you do the research so we don't have to guess and wonder! As I have said before I run multiple custom tunes and one of them was Chevron 94 +10% ethanol and even then😊 I had some corrections on my logs. I run 93 Shell with no corrections on the same tune all thanks to you Adam.✊️

Adam, Just watched some of your videos on petro products. From reading some of the comments and from your videos it would seem that no one actually knows and the refined products industry distribution works(at least for western Canada). So let me try and unpack some of this for you and your viewers from when I was in the refining industry in Alberta. Every refinery has contracts with practically every other refinery for supply. So just because the gas station says Shell on the pumps( or any other gas station)doesn't mean it's products come from the Shell refinery in Fort Sask. At the refinery I worked in for 8 years, we supplied most fuels(not all to some of the retail stations) to Esso, Shell, PetroCan, Coop etc etc in the Calgary region. For example in Regina where the Coop refinery is located, they will supply all the fuels for every brand in the area and probably in Manitoba as well. The only differences will be each brands additive package, which gets added while the tanker trucks or rail cars are getting loaded. Our refinery also supplied fuels to Montana and Washington state. As for Costco, the last I knew was they had a contract with Imperial Oil refinery in Fort Sask, although that may have changed since then, Costco basically goes for who ever will give them the best deal. Same as Super Save gas, their contract(as of last year) was with Imperial Oil Refinery. The refinery in Burnaby supplies what products they produce to contracted retailers- could be Esso or Shell or any of the others including Chevron. And considering Chevron doesn't have a refinery in Canada anymore, their products for BC could come from any of the refineries in Fort Sask or Burnaby or possibly from the refinery in Blain Washington or who ever they can get the best contract from. Every refinery exchanges on a pretty much daily basis batch samples of their products to each other refineries labs for testing to ensure they meet that companies specs. During my time, Imperial Oil pretty much had the industry standard for bang-on specs for their products. Our refinery wasn't great for having consistent specs so we had to always make ours alittle higher octane to meet or exceed everyone else's spec that we supplied product to. For example, Shell(or any of the others) isn't going to supply their own refined products from their Scottford plant to their retail stations on Van Island if they can get the fuels from someone else who has a tank farm locally if it will save them money. Same in the lower mainland, there are tanks farms there which get products from no doubt all of the refineries in the Fort Sask area. It's all very convoluted now that they have several pipelines running through to the coast. So chances are that if you buy from any named service station and expect to get who ever's product is really unlikely these days, except if you live in or around Edmonton or Calgary(mostly, as Calgary has a Imperial oil tanks farm and a Shell tank farm I believe). As for PetroCan(suncor) I don't know of any tank farms that they have except in Naniamo. Long winded I know, but hopefully that explains some of the confusion when it comes to filling up your tank with the "best" fuel, as you just don't know who's product you're getting. Like I said it's all in the additive package they add and that you'll never know, not even we were allowed to know what was in each companies secret additive package.

Spectacular test! It's making me consider changing my fuel buying habits. That said, I live in Edmonton, not Vancouver. The only car I need 91+ in is a 2005 Jaguar, normally aspirated V8. I doubt I would see much of a difference between Premium Costco fuel and Shell 93. I am missing something? Many thanks for your efforts!!!

Possibly not in that car, but the only way to know for sure is to run each fuel in similar conditions and datalog your car to see if it advances the timing on one fuel vs the other to make more power. Also keep in mind this testing is specific to the Lower Mainland, BC. I have no idea where the fuel in Edmonton comes from, and I know for certain it is made with different specifications than our fuel is.

How did you remove the previously tested fuel from the tank and fuel lines prior to testing each subsequent fuel? Are the mustang dyno numbers raw or do they have corrections for any differences in environmental conditions through the day (temp, humidity, atmospheric pressure). Cheers!

@horizondriving5601 it for sure doesn't have the same additives as Shell's fuel because that's proprietary to Shell's branded fuel. It also wasn't timed the same as Shell. Hi great video, I think winter fuel has more ethanol to reduce ice freezing in gaslines. On the prairies before winter fuels were available we had to add ISOPROPYL to a fuel tank to remove the frozen ice in a gas line when >(-30). As you know water and gasoline don’t mix, and the separated water can then freeze and block the line
@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi 8 месяцев назад
Thank you. As I explained in the video though, winter blends contain LESS ethanol than the summer blends. The higher the ethanol content the more difficult it is to start your engine. A prime example of this is when vehicles are tuned to run high ethanol blends like my 2018 Audi RS3 which is tuned to run E85. It has an extremely difficult time starting in the winter months when it is cold out vs the summer months when it fires right up even when running an 85% ethanol blend.

Here in California, which only offers 91 “craptane” the car community all say that Shell is the best fuel for out here. This video makes me question that now. That said, the Shell fuel out there is probably different than what we receive out here so it may be true. Who knows…I’ll stick to Shell or Cheveron only

Get methanol injection, E85 mix or both. Leave your car stock if you are not doing anything to the fuel. California fuel is even able to make almost everyone single stock boosted performance car knock under not that extreme conditions. This is how we tune the cali car: dial the timing back by 1-2 deg from stock and leave peak boost alone or even shave it a lil bit while adding a some boost on the top end. it will be minimal gain but the log will be cleaner since the timing is dialed back. And yes you are reading is right, we are actually running less timing than stock for those who wouldn't use E85 mix or meth injection in California, Neveda and Arizona.

I disagree. A gain of 17whp & 12wtq from simply a change in fuel is huge for those looking to get every last drop of performance out of their vehicles from one 93 octane fuel to another.

@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi 8 месяцев назад
It makes perfect sense. The tune was optimized to run 91 octane fuel. It was already seeing roughly the peak performance it could with the 91 octane fuel, so there was nothing really to gain with the 92 octane fuel. You can clearly see it improved the logs slightly and made a teenie bit more power.

@VancityAudi 8 месяцев назад
@rokey121 I guess you're not picking up what I'm putting down. I'll be blunt, lol. You'd have to be an idiot to voluntarily run a lower octane than required fuel than what the tune calls for.
@rokey121
@rokey121 8 месяцев назад
@VancityAudi I think its the opposite actually, your not picking up what I'm trying to say. I fully understand that it's an idiotic move to run a lower octane than what the tune calls for, I literally tune cars. Sure the US92 on the 91 octane tune did better because it pulled less timing. But 92 was not pushed (ie. Timing was not advanced to find the limit of 92). So ofcourse it's going to make the same power as what the 91 octane tune. If the 91 octane tune targets 9 degrees as an example at redline, and you put in US92, the cars still gona target 9 degrees. Sure it has corrections on 91 because it was on the edge, but once those corrections are gone, cars still targeting 9 degrees.
@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi 8 месяцев назад
@rokey121 I get that. What I don't understand is why you would think I would have any data on using a 92 octane fuel on a tune that was designed to run with nothing less than 93 octane fuel? I would never recommend anyone do that. It would be idiotic to do that in the first place, lol. I've witnessed multiple engine failures at the drag strip from morons cheaping out at the pump thinking it would be okay to ask for the max performance out of their cars on a lower octane fuel than their cars were tuned to run.
