As mentioned already Duncan, thanks for all the effort you put into making this test.👍 After reading forums and wild butt dyno advise, this is by far the most conclusive results. Its good to know any of the 3 fuels will work well. Just for some safety margin 10% meth just to stabilize things?

Thanks for that useful info. I'm mapped on V-Power. I requested a backed off 380bhp as my local Shell station is in a small town on the A40. It's been recently taken over by Asda (Euro Garages), and is much busier now as the prices have dropped significantly so the fuel now seems fresher. Didn't know about it but I will try some ESSO 99 when I find it. So this is all very helpful. Best wishes.

Interesting one for you Dunc. My Audi TTS is mapped on Vpower but there's an Esso literally at the end of the street so I run that quite regularly. Had my turbo rebuilt last year and just had it taken off to have some work done and the mapper said "are you running octane booster or an additive?", as the exhaust housing on the turbo isn't the usual sooty colour. I know that Vpower is the only one that is purely refined to 99, the other 2 used additives, so although the power is the same, the longer term effects may be different. Also curious which you think would "go off" quickest and lose its ethanol content? Remember when that Hawkeye was mapped and the flex fuel showed zero ethanol due to it being stood 4 months?

I've personally been using Esso for a couple of years now, I always found after leaving the scooby in the garage for a few weeks with the same fuel in with vpower it felt flat like it was pulling timing, so be interesting to see witch one degrades the fastest, I know it wont be 100% as you'd need the fuel to be fresh that day. But I found Esso seems to feel like it's still 99 after weeks.

I've always used Tesco because it was cheaper and closer. I'm building a turbocharged e46 330i and have a standalone ECU and flex fuel sensor so I can add bio ethanol whenever I want more power but will be using Tesco or Shell 99 most the time.

Great test. What I'd be interested in knowing is if there is any benefit with running octane booster compared to no octane booster and if adding a full bottle gives more power than half a bottle. For example i live in Northern Ireland so our best fuel is only 97 ron. My jdm blob is 430hp, mapped for momentum so i use NF octane booster with every tank to keep it safe as finding a 4 wheel dyno and someone I'd actually trust mapping subarus over here is near impossible.

Great effort on your behalf seems any 99 octane pretty much the standard with small variation .Would have been interesting to see 95 octane e10 result as a standard .

Where I live BP ultimate97 is the best we can get for the most part bar one particular garage that does 99

The best fuel over here seems to be the newer station as the older the tanks seem to cause issues I notice this from station with dam dropping

when ppl have tested ethanol content of UK fuels, I think Esso 99, although labeled E5, is the only one that is actually still ethanol free (at least in south of England) so you're technically getting better value for money

Hi Great videos Are you ever coming back to the Midlands ? You mapped my car for the previous owner at RCM, the previous owner included the graph and receipt. Since had a different turbo fitted at Scooby clinic, but the map is not so good and too laid back. RCM claims they don't map anymore, which seems a bit odd. Or any suggestions for other tuners in the Midlands ? Area 52 is pretty close by (used to be Scooby mania, back in the day) but not sure if they are any good. Thanks a lot

Do you not need to run the different fuel for some time for the engine to adjust any timing etc before doing another dyno run? What about those who can't get someone to change their mapping (i.e. just fill up and go)?. Interesting video though!!

Would have been really useful to know exactly how much ethanol was in each of the different 99RON fuels used because they will all contain a different amount and that might explain the small differences in power output achieved? Personally i like Momentum, use it in a blob, a bug and a Cayenne Turbo. Never been a big fan of Shell, i try not to use it but i quite like Esso as well although much more money than Momentum. I'd like to have seen results based on the Esso mapping as that was the best result of all but with the other two fuels as well on just that same map. That would have been a more meaningful result for me along with a timing curve just to see how much timing the ECU pulls on the other fuels if it senses a bit of knock. Was it just timing you altered in your tests when you mapped for each fuel? Great video thanks! 👍

I heard you’ve raced your Subarus at the track, we took a new 23 VB WRX to track and the handling was poor, Subaru engineer at the event said it’s because new WRX is built on Forester chassis with front open diff and rear open diff, he said the STI in past handled well at track because of front LSD, center DCCD diff, and rear LSD. Do you agree or disagree with the Subaru engineer on the importance of LSDs and DCCD?

I think Esso will be on top, but I use Tesco because it's cheaper and I don't see much difference between those two. Ok, now let's watch this.

Great video but how long will we be able to buy this type of fuel with the so called EV takeover. I am concerned that it will disappear and quite quickly, hopefully not as mine is mapped by you to a BP fuel cause there a station just down the road. BTW on BP you got 267 bhp out of my stock WRX (just backbox) 2007 at RCM road.

Shame Texaco 99 isn't tested by anyone my tuned cupra ran a dream on it. I give esso a go again now then was a tesco man for primarily. Were the torque figures similar on the dyno runs? Mt butt dyno always thought vpower produced the most torque but Tesco gave the best top end. Great test btw

I've known the order of quality of fuel has been as follows for a while by many tuners 1. Tesco Momentum 99 2. Shell V-Power 3. Esso Synergy Supreme+ Based on price as well I still think Tesco is best value and very accessible near me, but appreciate the lengthy video documentary. Maybe things have changed over time

So as always, the answer is... Add meth. Right? 🫣😆
