Today I wanted to address a question I have been getting a lot: what temperature is best for shrimp? In today's Shrimp Saturday i want to address this and tell you my opinion on which temperature is the best for breeding shrimp. I'll go over the safe ranges, my thought on heaters and some side effects to having high temperatures in a shrimp tank.
Thanks you for watching, have a safe night!

Thanks for the summary, Rob. I'm looking forward to my order and many years of interest. I've decided to go with a quality inline heater for a 10g show tank since my house stays below 60 F in winter. Your advice is, as always, priceless! Blessings.

I keep mine at 77 just because I have other fish with them, when they were by themselves they were usually 73-75, and they were thriving.

I live in hawaii and have a 10 gallon tank that fluctuates anywhere from 79 to 82F ish. Will I still be able to keep and breed blue velvets or blue dream shrimp?

hi, been watching your videos for a bit. just set up a small tank for shrimp, and stocked it with 4 velvet blue shrimp. they died within a week. i have kept lots of fish, but these are the first shrimp. i am picking up a tds meter, but my ph was about 7.2, kh about 60 and gh about 80. i have fluval substrate and sand with about an eigth cup of coral. i have moss and buce on some wood in there. not sure what happened tho. it may have been a temp issue. i had cold black worms in the bag on the way home, amd it may have dropped the temp. i drip acclimated them, but they were very inactive right off the bat and didnt seem to eat. one thing, it had a hard time getting them out of the bag, they are really small. how do you get them out, do you net them or just pour them out? love the chanel and your dedication to the hobby and the chanel! thanks!

Live in the south (Memphis area) and inside house temp gets in the 80’s for days! I know temp on shrimp tank will get really warm! Guess as the temp gets close to 80, we should shut the door from the kitchen to the screened porch which is exactly where the tank is (kitchen).

I was keeping a small tank with shrimp and apple snails at about 78F and feeding pretty heavily for the snails. All my poor cherry shrimp started dying one at a time and I saw what looked like molting issues (cracked shell and sudden appearance of a light "racing stripe" on many shrimp) I am reasonably sure that those conditions had the shrimp growing faster than they could molt, I was wondering if you've ever seen anything like that? Oh, and: Ammonia: 0 Nitrites: 0 Nitrates: 10ppm pH: 6.6 Hardness: kit from amazon is in the mail :( but our water is softish and I had been feeding a lot of mineral heavy food for the snails

Being an aquarium guy since the 90's I was getting excited to try shrimp for the first time until I heard they like temps in the low 70's and I decided to abort my mission because the tank I wanted to put them in is 78 degrees with Neon Tetra's and a few small Platy's and decorated with woods and live plants. From everything I have read my tank isn't perfect as a Shrimp only tank but still possible if the temperature will be ok? I don't want a Shrimp only tank, I think it would bore me.

I have a 29 gallon planted tank with tetras and it’s usually around 78-80. I added shrimp later on after the fish and they seem to be doing well. Growing quickly and breeding

Well it's good to know that shrimp do well in low 70's. I was planning to keep my fish room (when built) around 74F but to suit the shrimp I may drop it a couple of degrees. It'll save a bit on energy and I prefer lower temps as it's just overall safer IMO.

I bought ghost shrimp about 3 weeks ago and in with my tropical fish they went, yep nitrous. At .49 it seems like a good trial and error shrimp to start out on. Why are ghost shrimp so hard to breed yet the cheapest to buy? I don't believe they are hard to breed. Yesterday while checking on the tank the shrimp are in I saw one full of eggs, today 1 more full of eggs out of 5 females (8 males).

But if you run the tank at lower temperatures, the fish in your tank are more susceptible to disease.

I know this is an old video but just to give everybody some updated info: The magic number for me is 23°C, that's 73.5°F, for my Cherry Red shrimp. I started with a group of 15 from the fish store, in the end of August... Counted up to 70 a few weeks ago when I fed them in one spot, so that's three months. Giving the fact that those starting 15 disappeared into the tank, I might as well have a hundred if we count for the hidden shrimp as well since I have a lot of hiding space. There you have it! :)
