Oh wow, that log is huge! And you’re not wearing winter clothes this time. Elaine from Canada here, amazed at the strength of Jesse to get those pieces onto the Eastonmade. I’m glad he’s aware and cautious about his back too. And I’m so sorry to hear of his friend’s accident and subsequent quadriplegia. I looked over at their Facebook page and blown away at how their lives have taken such a turn. Oh dear oh dear. It brings a whole new and deeper meaning when we say to our friends, “stay safe, be careful.” Thank you for this video Joe and Jesse, you continue to inspire, and display the worth of opportunities, hard work, and relationships. Enjoy and capitalize on the nice weather.

Joe, before I even started watching this video, I was thinking the best way to split MASSIVE oak was to have someone else do it! LOL here we have a video of Jesse getting it done. I think the largest oak round I've handled was 44-48" in diameter. It was all my small tractor and I could move. So Jesse I appreciate your pain. Joe thanks for bringing another great video showing the Axis handling the extreme, especially since I know oak is one of your favorite types of firewood.

That lifting tray on the Axis is no joke. Around here it's easy to get huge oak rounds like that - people don't want to mess with it so it sits for a long time. Earlier in the season I knocked out a bunch of that, which will beat you up pretty good. Always looking for easier pickings.

Back in the day, we sent hardwood pulp to Domtar Paper in Cornwall ON, the mill couldn't take these big pieces, we had to rip them with the chainsaws. Cutting logs in an old sugar bush required butting 4' off the bottom to avoid hardware in the log (old sap taps and such) Those had to be split. Never heard noodling term applied.

Hey Joe, tell Jesse that he ought to think about getting a 395xp or a 592xp!!! He's got me beat, the biggest oak I've ever tackled was a big 48" red oak. I did some rough calculating , I'd guess that the big round weighed about 2000 pounds when he took it off of the truck... just a really rough guesstimate. I figured 46 pounds per cubic foot for oak. So, since about 25% of it was missing, I just figured a 42" length at 48" diameter instead of the 55" that it measured at... like I said, 2000 pounds would be in the ballpark.

I am not the firewood maven that I once was. That being said, I am of the opinion that noodling of rounds is generally inefficient practice. I used to utilize my forklift with log tongs to lift giant rounds onto my horizontal I-beam splitter. Then just keep cracking the pieces down to barely manageable size and split off firewood size from there. If I were still doing firewood I think I might invest in one of those slide hammer wedges for splitting big rounds up. That would have to be faster and less costly in the long run than using a chainsaw, I would think. I could be way off base here and blowing smoke, I don’t know. Thoughts?

When your log fits one per log bunker. I’ve logged a pine and a macrocarpa one stick per logging truck bunker. U may regret not using ppe every time u use that saw too dude. My only rule is chaps 100% of the time.

Awesome job on a huge log! Ironic that jesse is wrestling large pieces of wood while wearing a chiropratic shirt

Easy to misunderstand the shirt. This is to honor his friend who was injured in an accident. Thanks for watching WIll

Id still go with a Power Split. They have been making vertical splitters a lot longer than Easton, and the recycle time is faster toaster the the Easton as well. Time is money....

Greetings... That sure is some nice looking fire wood. I'm thinking that you either just acquired a new business partner for splitting or just made a commission on the sale of an Axis... I don't think LHJ is going to want to return it...
