I have a 2013 3.5L 181,200 miles. Great, reliable vehicle. No major issues. Brake Booster replaced around 170,000. Be cautious of the water pump as it runs off the timing chain. Thinking staying on top of coolant/radiator maintenance and regular oil changes (I do Mobil1 every 10k miles) may increase longevity of the water pump…I’ve not had any issues from that standpoint

Nice 👍 Yes, I think more frequent oil changes and coolant drain and fills (with OEM fluid) may help extend the life of the water pump.

I’m glad it helped 👍 Make sure the title is clean and also get it looked at by a mechanic before you buy any used car. You’re not looking for perfection, but you don’t want any major problems. Also, when I buy a used car I try to screen the previous owner. I made a video on how to do that. You may be able to check the maintenance history before you even go look at the vehicle. I just bought a 2013 with a 3.5 V6 motor all wheel drive and the thing is just a rocketship 150,000 miles paid 7000 for it. The only thing it needed when I bought it was an alignment and an oil change, and it’s like brand new whoever owned it before me took like extremely good care of it, the ride is great and I’m a big guy and it is a lot of room for such a little car. If I were you I’d get a 2015 Ford Edge SE trim (or any trim without the pano roof) because, according to my research, 2015 the last year they used the 3.5 liter engine. If you want more info on the current Edges engine - the 2.0l eco boost - Google - Ford 2 liter eco boost common problems… Then you’ll understand why I recommend sticking with the 3.5 liter lol Just watch the water pump on the 3.5 engine and you’ll be fine. One this channel … once a model and year range are determined… we use a 3 step process that includes the following: 1- Select - selecting the best year range and powertrain for you.. Which in this case is the 2015 3.5 liter 2- Screen - screen the previous owner(s) by looking at the car fax for free online. Here’s a couple videos of how I do this. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N_Ba-OtMJp4.htmlsi=IAWdpqEMH9pZ6iv- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uADJ-f39pvE.htmlsi=pDsOMMDmdVFPhdj2 3- inspect - have a mobile mechanic go to the lot and check it out before you buy it. You’re not looking for perfection, but you must avoid huge problems… Excessive rust, accidents ect. Car lots will sell you anything. Anything small that the mechanic finds can be used as leverage to lower your offer to the dealership. Have fun shopping. Let me know if you have any questions 👍

I liked the video. I have a 2013 Lincoln MKX with the 3.7 V/6. Isn't this basically the same motor ? Do you know on average miles when the water pump goes up, because that looks like a real expensive repair? Also every thing on the motor looks like It would be a costly repair. Hope this motor holds up as good as the 3.5.
@MJ100k
@MJ100k 3 месяца назад
Yes the 3.7 is a very similar Duratec motor. The transverse versions of the 3.7 are also affected by the water pump concern in the 3.5L A very rough estimate would be 1,500-2000$ When will it happen: ? IDK - there was a class action lawsuit that was dismissed that claimed it happened as low as 50k. Ford says it’s tested to 150k… So idk when it could happen exactly. See the section on water pumps: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Cyclone_engine Some people think that changing the fluid with OEM fluid often and checking the coolant level weekly could help to see a signal it’s going out… But if it fails it could damage the engine - so if you’re planning on keeping the vehicle for a few years… I would make plans to get that water pump replaced if it’s original. You might as well replace the timing chain and any seals in that area while you’re in there.

My mechanic said the water pump is leaking. Because it's powered by the timing chain it would be over 3k to fix. But wait there's more...there is a second leak near the transmission. He said he has never seen leak there before. I would need to go to Ford to fix that. He told me it's not worth fixing. It would likely be over 6k to fix both leaks. I'm sad I really like my Edge. Interesting - I looked up the Saturn Vue- looks like it does have the Honda v6 as an option. That v6 does have a timing belt though. I’m not hearing good things about the transmissions in Vues.. but they do offer a manual … so IDK. Generally- I think that if you want a Honda engine you might as well buy a Honda lol I’d probably get a Honda CRV, Ford Edge or Togota Rav 4 over a Vue.

@@MJ100k Honestly, I prefer the vue if it has a manual, those things are light since they're made of fiberglass

Every used vehicle has common problems. You can chose the vehicle with the common problem that you don’t mind dealing with 🤷‍♂️ One guy on here changed his own water pump on one of these… Took him all weekend… but he did it 💯

Well, you glossed over the poorley designed 3.5 water pump issue. It will cost $1400 to $1600 to get it replaced. Worse, if it leaks, coolant will mix with the engine oil, and you know what that means. YIKES!

@@stuuuporman With the cost of a new car averaging 45,000$ The prospect of buying a good used car for 7 or 8,000$ and later replacing a water pump for 1,400$ all of a sudden.. doesn’t seem so bad 🤷‍♂️ One guy on here, took a weekend … did the repair himself and saved a grand 😉 Other used cars can blow whole engines or transmissions for 4-6000$ 👀
