Hi Jeffrey.. Thanks for the explanation. However I have a question. Desktop/Laptop specifically is a asset or CI? because we do manage them in CMDB. They are one of the huge number of components that gets added to CMDB on daily basis. Also they are the one hugely get tracked through Discovery which is one of the key aspect of SACM. Please explain.

Hello Hina, Thank you for watching. An item can be both a CI and Service Asset. And both Service Assets and CIs are included in SACM. Both can be included in the CMDB and discovered through a discovery tool. Both may have "attributes" in your ITSM tool. The main thing that differentiates the two is: Service Assets are tracked for financial & other reasons and are usually stand-alone while CIs are tracked because of their relationships. CIs will be related one to another while Service Assets usually are not. Hope this helps. Feel free to comment anytime or email me at JeffreyTefertiller@gmail.com

Is there a way to integrate ITAM (in my case Mobile devices) and CMDB to track the physical assets in the field and give more visibility in the supply chain ? Integration of ITAM database with CMDB.

With ServiceNow you can do that! Out-of-the-box you can manage CI's and assets together.
