Learn what a Configuration Management Database (CMDB) is, how it works, and what value it provides with a focus on the ServiceNow CMDB. -- LINKS -- Video Resources: ➤ servicenowsimple.com/videos/w... -- TIMESTAMPS --
I concur, Jenna. I have used ServiceNOW! myself at roles in the past and never quite "pieced it together" how the CMDB incorporates into SNOW, but knew / had a concept of what it did. But this Gentleman explained it to a degree, where it makes sense now, especially with the visuals, which is how I best learn with my ADHD! This guy is great!
I watched many videos on CMDB but I must say, the way you explained everything is exactly what I was looking for. You made the whole concept clear to me. It makes complete sense. Thank you.
Thanks so much for sharing - this is so much more informative than a long read on a random website. Your explanation is straight to the point and very clear. Subscribed!
Starting a new role as a Configuration Analyst next month, and with only a background in Desktop Support I found this video really insightful and helpful. Subscribed and liked.
And one more like and subscription, great video ! Just one thing ServiceNow is much more than the Company IT department in the cloud, nowadays Service Now expand to a lot of areas such as HR requests, Legal department, etc ... The purpose is to make the world of work work better for everyone. Again thanks for the video and looking forward to see more :)
Very tru Comando1! I need to expand my definition and analogy. I was fortunate to attend the Knowledge22 conference and I’m amazed at all of the areas ServiceNow touches. So much to learn!!!
Hello Jeff, I've been involved in the IT industry for the past 20 years. As a SharePoint Developer and now a Power Platform Developer I thought I was good to go in my IT career. However, my latest contract is involved with ServiceNow, CMDB, SharePoint and Power Platform. I am not directly involved with ServiceNow but think adding the ServiceNow technology to my skillset would be beneficial. Thanks for all of your helpful videos. Looking forward to learning more about ServiceNow.
Awesome! Pretty much the same scenario happened for me. I've been writing custom software for years and most recently the company I'm working for decided implement ServiceNow. I thought my days of developing were over, but I was wrong. Jump into ServiceNow with gusto! There is so much you can do and learn.
@Jeff - This is great content!. I've used it several times to share the basics of CMDB with some non-tech peers. Question: You mentioned a next video for "Discovery" and "Rules". I can't seem to find the video. I wonder if is not released yet? Thanks!!
I'm glad you are using the video! I haven't completed the Discovery video yet, but it's on my list. My 'real' job has take most of my time lately, unfortunately. I'm finishing up a Knowledge Management video now and will work on Discovery next.
Thanks for the great video Jeff. It is absolutely clear how CIs are stored in the CMDB, but how I cannot envisage how Service CIs can be stored. Might you have an example of this?
Service CI's are definitely 'conceptual'. There is no way to mechanically discover services. I'll look for some examples and put together a video on this topic. It's a great question!
Hello Jeff, this video is very informative. I will write a CSA exam soon and was wondering if you can point me to a crash course on these topics? 4 - Self Service & Automation: 58% 5 - Database Management: 62%
I'm actually working now on a series of videos that go through SN from a database perspective. Check out the channel and the fundamentals series. I'll keep working on that (Database Management). I'll look into Self Service & Automation. Did you find these topics and corresponding percentages in an exam prep resource?
Hey Jim. Yeah, I had to take some time away over the Summer, but I'm back at it now. I'll get on the Discovery follow-up, hoping within the next month or so. Thanks for asking! Do you have much experience with Discovery?
Hi :) thanks for your video :) It is very easy to understand and very clear. I do have a question, why did you say "for some CI sometimes it will be required a manual entry?" (how does the cmdb get populated section) Thanks again a lot and have a great day
Hey Arthur, thanks for the feedback! Mechanical methods of discovering CMDB items rely on pinging the network and receiving a response from the item. Some items likely won't be discoverable in that manner.
@@ServiceNowSimple Hey :). Thanks for the answer, I got it now. I need to do a benchmarking of various Asset Mangement tools for my studies. By change, could I contact you by email ? It's a new subject for me and I have a lots of question ahah :) Anyway thanks for your fantastic videos and explanations :)
So if i am a servicenow developer...what module should i learn like cmdb or anything else....i mean whqt are the best modules roles to work on for a service now dev
Hey Kunal, I'd def recommend starting out with ServiceNow's Certified System Administrator (CSA) training and certification. That provides a broad understanding of the entire platform, which you will need prior to diving into development. I'd have a look at the ServiceNow Fundamentals learning path on their learning portal.
@@ServiceNowSimple i am working towards it...but i am concerned about its future scope...hence i wanted to know about the in demand modules/profiles such as hr cmdb grc
@Jeff Thies - ServiceNowSimple thank you so much for this useful Video you've made for all of us! This is really good information, & straight to the point! +1 new sub!
